Everything You Need to Know About GoFundMe’s Fees

| 3 min read Crowdfunding

GoFundMe’s mission is to inspire hope and change lives through giving. We want to create a world in which need everywhere is met by a rising movement of people ready to help.  Whether someone has a medical emergency, is the victim of a natural disaster, or just wants to support a cause they’re passionate about, we want to make it as easy as possible for them to get help when it’s needed.

Campaign organizers in the US, Canada, Australia, UK, and most major European countries can quickly start raising funds by setting up a GoFundMe without any platform fee. Note that although there is no platform fee, transaction fees (including debit and credit charges) apply to all fundraisers and are deducted from each donation when made.

Rather than charging the campaign organizer a platform fee, GoFundMe uses a tipping model that provides donors the option of leaving GoFundMe a voluntary tip, in addition to their donation.  We use these tips to help us operate the company and provide an effective, safe and secure experience for all our users around the world.

If you’d like a more in-depth explanation of GoFundMe’s transaction fees and tipping model, we cover these details below.

GoFundMe does not have a platform fee for organizers

GoFundMe has no platform fee for organizers in the US, Canada, Australia, UK, and most major European countries.

The transaction or payment processing fee

Transaction fees (which include debit and credit charges) are deducted from each donation.  This is because every money transfer made online needs to be securely processed and verified, usually by a third party payment processor.

Although GoFundMe does not have a platform fee for organizers in the US, Canada, Australia, UK, and most major European countries, transaction fees (including debit and credit charges) apply to all fundraisers and are deducted from each donation when made.  Campaign beneficiaries receive all funds raised minus the transaction fees.

GoFundMe’s current transaction fees by country can be found on our pricing page here

What is GoFundMe’s tipping model?

We believe that the people who come to our site see and appreciate the value of our services, so in the US, Canada, Australia, UK, and most major European countries, GoFundMe provides donors with the option to leave us a voluntary tip.  Donors’ voluntary tips are in addition to their donations and therefore have no effect on how much money beneficiaries receive.  We use these tips to help us operate the company and provide an effective, safe and secure experience for all our users around the world.
