As the attempts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 continue, campus workers everywhere are feeling the effects. Universities and colleges have laid off and furloughed custodians, dining hall workers, bus drivers, and other essential staff at an unprecedented rate. This disproportionally affects low-income workers on campuses who already live paycheck to paycheck, many of whom are now struggling to put food on the table, stay in their homes, and afford health care. Unsung Heroes is teaming up with GoFundMe to encourage students around the world to take action by donating or creating fundraisers of their own to help campus workers pay their bills.
We’re launching the #UnsungHeroesReliefFund movement to help lessen the economic strain on those who have been impacted by the recent layoffs. With the help of student volunteers, we aim to raise $1 million to help campus workers pay their rent, bills, medical expenses, and other urgent needs. This is for the campus worker who is short a few hundred bucks and can’t make rent, has an unexpected bill, or is in a jam because their hours were cut, they were furloughed, or they lost their job.
All campaigns are student-run and 100% of all proceeds will be distributed to the workers who are in the most need!
