Information for people who don’t use the GoFundMe Services

GoFundMe Inc. and its affiliates and subsidiaries (collectively “GoFundMe”, “we”, “our” or “us”) offer an optional feature within the fundraiser Manage experience that allows an Organizer to upload their contact book so that they can share their fundraiser with their network. This feature is called “Contact Uploading” and it lets Organizers easily send messages through their native messaging apps. We process the information we may receive through Contact Uploading even if you are not a GoFundMe user or don’t have an account with us at the time your information was shared (a “Non-User”). Organizers control if and when they communicate with Non-Users. GoFundMe does not contact Non-Users directly. Contact Uploading is currently limited to Organizers in the United States only.

If your information was uploaded by an Organizer through this feature, we will process your name, mobile phone number, email address, and other information as set forth herein. If you are a GoFundMe user or otherwise interact with our Services, the GoFundMe Privacy Notice applies to the Services provided to you.

About Contact Uploading and How it Works

When a user uses Contact Uploading and grants us access to their device’s address book, we will access and upload information such as the names, phone numbers, email addresses, zip codes, locales, and phone numbers of people saved in their address book to our servers, including contacts who are not users or don’t have an account with us (i.e., Non-Users). Users control if and when they communicate with Non-Users, and GoFundMe does not contact Non-Users directly. Within the fundraiser Manage experience, Contact Uploading helps Organizers activate their existing network by giving users the ability to upload their contacts and easily message their network through their native messaging apps.

What information is collected about Non-Users?

We collect information such as the names, phone numbers, email addresses, zip codes, locales, and phone numbers of a user’s contacts, if granted permission. This Non-User data is sequestered and encrypted to help protect the information we receive. Organizers can then easily activate their existing network to support their fundraisers by messaging Non-Users using their native messaging apps.

How do we use a Non-User’s information?

Contact Uploading is an optional feature where Organizers can choose to upload their device’s address book to GoFundMe. We process information such as the names, phone numbers and/or e-mail addresses, and other information in the address book to see if any of the numbers or email addresses belong to existing users of GoFundMe. Organizers can also invite Non-Users using email or SMS to support their fundraisers on GoFundMe by sharing a unique fundraiser link. To help Organizers understand the impact of their outreach, GoFundMe tracks and shares information with Organizers about how recipients interact with their fundraisers.

Contact Uploading also allows us to suggest a person who isn’t yet a GoFundMe user (i.e., a Non-User) as a suggested account to follow once they join GoFundMe.

We retain Non-User’s personal information for as long as needed to provide the Contact Uploading feature to users and for the purposes described above. For certain regulatory reasons, we may need to keep your contact information for longer, such as to respond to a legal request or comply with applicable law, for regulatory or litigation matters, to prevent harm or for safety, security and integrity purposes. The length of time we need to keep it will depend on the specific regulatory reason.

How Non-Users Can Exercise Their Rights

We provide Non-Users the ability to exercise certain choices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information under applicable laws. You can learn more about your consumer privacy rights by reviewing the “Your Privacy Rights” section of our Privacy Notice here.
