Spreading kindness through crocheting

Jonah started crocheting when he was just 5 years old. He found a crochet hook in a bag of crafts and his mom set him up with a YouTube tutorial and some yarn. Much to her surprise, she not only didn’t come back to a big mess of yarn like she expected, but he had completed an entire, beautifully-made dishcloth. 6 years later, Jonah’s beautiful designs and joyous spirit have gone viral and have captured the hearts of people all over the world.

He wanted to give children in Ethiopia, the country where he was born, the chance to unlock their own passion and potential–just as he did with crocheting. He partnered with Roots Ethiopia, a non-profit organization located right in the village where he was born, to provide schoolchildren the resources they needed to succeed. Jonah and his mom started a GoFundMe to improve education for kids in Ethiopia and have raised over $39,000. With the donations, he has been able to build a library, science lab, and bathroom for the 2000+ students at the school.

Jonah says the best way for people to find their creative passion is, “By just experimenting with new crafts like crochet, knit, sewing and all the other crafts out there that you could possibly do. And if you don’t enjoy it, find another one and mainly just find what you love to do.”
