 2026 has not been a good year for many of us, but it has been an especially rough year for us as a family.

 January 1, Indiana Medicaid Waiver introduced the service cap, which made it so Kim's work situation was drastically changed--rather than working the stable clinical job she went to graduate school for, now about half of her work only pays 1/3 of what she was previously paid. In November, the state is looking to change Recreational Therapy services again, which will cause another pay cut.

 During the summer, James had to suddenly purchase a replacement car, which was thankfully paid halfway by a few generous friends and halfway by the remainder of our bank account.
</div>

 Also at the beginning of the summer, we all suddenly lost health insurance due to a paperwork error which we were told could not be fixed until open enrollment. We have also been told the boys do not qualify for Medicaid (because we do not have significant proof of disability), despite continued battles to get Medicaid. Insulin and g-tube supplies (for S) out of pocket have taken the majority of our funds, including putting us a few months behind on mortgage.

 In October, we finally got a doctor to listen to medical concerns for T, and he is receiving emergency surgery (getting a g-tube/feeding tube) the first week of November, without insurance. At this point we don't know how we will pay for it but will be working with the Riley's social work team to figure this out.

<div>Theo is my 6-year-old cat, and I adopted him in May 2020. Since day 1, we have been incredibly close, and he has been such an important part of my life. He brings so much joy to me, my family, and my friends, and anyone who knows me IRL, knows just how much Theo means to me. Right now, Theo is going through something very scary. He has had a couple of UTIs, and the current one has now turned into a dangerous urinary blockage, which is extremely serious for male cats.

<div> I am asking for help to cover Theo’s ongoing vet bills. His care this week has already reached beyond $2,300, and if PU surgery is needed next week, the total could go past $10,000. To make this even harder, I was recently laid off this month, and the financial strain has become overwhelming very quickly. What started as the flu turned into <strong>respiratory failure, two collapsed lungs, and ultimately ECMO</strong>—a last-resort life support machine that kept him alive for 10 days. He spent <strong>four weeks </strong>in the PICU and is now in an <strong>inpatient rehabilitation center</strong>, working daily with PT, OT, and speech therapy to regain his strength.

<div>Our beloved niece, Trish Sweet, was in a car accident on Monday, July 18th, 2022. She had foot surgery on the 19th and will need a second surgery for her heel. She also fractured her upper chest, upper back, tailbone, and pelvis and has a concussion. The doctors estimate she will need 12 weeks of recovery time without working for her foot injury to heal. Her back injury will take a full year to heal. Your donation will help her cover living expenses for herself and her daughter, medical bills, medications, and medical equipment.

Trish Sweet Car Accident Recovery

<p>"Christopher Brooks lost his battle to COVID-19 this past week. To his family and anyone who knew him, he will be dearly missed and remembered fondly. Chris always had a way of making you laugh, whether you were in the mood to do so or not. He never had anything bad to say about anyone, and loved life optimistically and with ideals of pushing through rough times and relying on family for love and support. His family meant the world to him, especially his wife and 4 children.
