If you’re in Baltimore, there’s a good chance you know Devin—or at least know someone who does. You might know him from behind the bar at Grand Cru or Frijoles—where he’s not just making drinks, he’s listening, checking in, and somehow becoming your therapist whether you planned on it or not. You might know him from Dumbarton Middle School, where he’s a safety and a steady presence for kids who need exactly that. Or you might know him from his other life—working in fashion with brands like Vans and Abercrombie &amp; Fitch—because somehow he also manages to be the best-dressed person in any room he walks into. However you know him, it all comes down to the same thing: Devin shows up for people. Consistently. Quietly. Without making a big deal about it. And right now, he’s the one who needs people to show up for him.

 Devin recently suffered a bleed in his pons, a critical part of the brain that controls breathing, movement, and coordination. It’s serious. There’s no quick fix—just time, care, and a long road back. The kind of road where everything stops…except the bills. And here’s the part that makes it even harder—Devin doesn’t have benefits from any of his jobs. No safety net. No backup plan. Just the reality of a medical emergency landing all at once. He should be able to focus on healing. That should be it. Instead, there’s the weight of medical costs, lost income, and the stress of trying to stay afloat while everything else keeps moving.

We won our union election in April of 2023, and our joint employers, Google and Cognizant, have dragged their feet and denied us our rights to bargain at every turn. Last week, while two of our team members were speaking at a City council meeting to pass a resolution urging Google and Cognizant to bargain with us, the rest of the team at the office was getting laid off. Honoring Lexy

March 19th 2021 at 8pm, I got a phone call that no one wants to hear...it was my parents in tears telling me that their home was on fire. Five fire departments responded, making multiple trips to the creek for water to put out the blaze...it was devastating. Their home is a total loss, most of their belongings are unsalvageable, and a lot of memories were damaged in the fire. However, we are just so thankful that my parents and the pups made it out safely! <br /><br />If any of you know Debbie or Lenny you should know that there's always a plate of food if you stop by, a beer in the fridge, and they’re always a helping hand if you need it. Lenny would give you the shirt off of his back and not expect anything in return. He may frown upon me making this because he has so much pride, but I’m doing this for my Mother and Father because they hardly ask anyone for help and financially they are going to be hurting because their mortgage was fairly new and the price of lumber and supplies is outrageously expensive right now. <br /><br />My sister Brittany Carlson and I, Bradley Carlson, are asking anyone and everyone to help our parents out in this tragic event - no family should ever lose the place were they’re supposed to feel most safe. <p>The Crown Bar and Venue has operated as a close knit collective since opening its doors in 2013, and since then, have tirelessly dedicated their time to organizing and maintaining a space that accommodates a wide range of performances.
</p>

<p>The staff, comprised of 15 employees, are currently unable to work and earn a wage until, at the least, May due to the effects of covid-19. As practicing artists and musicians with a mission to support other artists, we are now asking for your help to ensure the livelihood of our hard working staff.<br /><br />This fund will be divided based on need, keeping in mind that Tony &amp; Terry, our hard working security staff, do have families that they still need to support during this time.

The Crown COVID-19 Emergency Fund

The Black community has survived and endured the savagery of slavery and the debilitating effects of Jim Crow laws. Black people continue to be hunted down by racist agents of law enforcement and American terrorists, in the name of white supremacy. Black men are incarcerated more than five times the rate of White males, Black women more than twice that of White women, and Black Transgendered people are incorrectly housed by their sex assigned at birth. The American government has intentionally inhibited the progress of the Black community through restricting their vote, and limiting their access to proper housing, healthy food options, adequate education and quality healthcare. The system must be dismantled!<br /><br /><br />Queers for Black Lives Matter is a coalition of queer activists committed to fighting for the elevation of the Black community and the eradication of white supremacy, through demonstrations of peaceful protest and radical celebration. Join us on 6/27/20, International Pride Day, as we march for justice in the spirit of Marsha P. Johnson, Bayard Rustin, Ernestine Eckstein, James Baldwin, Barbara Johnson and countless other heroes.<br /><br /><br />We will meet at the assembly point at 1PM. From 2-3 PM will Rally and begin making our protest signs. We will depart for Baltimore’s City Hall at 3PM (route specifics and line-up TBD.) A vehicle caravan for disabled participants will be included in the procession (currently accepting volunteers.) The march will take approximately two hours. Queers for Black Lives Matter Protest

<strong>Panoply</strong> is a short narrative film based on the novella <a href="https://anathemataeditions.bigcartel.com/product/terence-hannum-beneath-the-remains-novella">Beneath the Remains</a> by Terence Hannum, in which teen metalhead Gabby searches in the humid Maryland summer for her missing sister. Taking a break, she pedals to her friend Lisa’s house. Lisa is busy with chores, but her older sister Jessica invites Gabby in to drink a beer and wait for Lisa to finish. She offers to shave one side of Gabby’s head and Gabby hesitantly agrees.<br /><br />The film explores relationships among young women, emerging identity, anxiety and isolation. It centers complex female characters and showcases women from the metal subculture who are rarely given a voice in film. <br /><br />The film will be shot in June 2019 by a local crew comprised of mainly women filmmakers, including director <a href="http://www.dinafiasconaro.com">Dina Fiasconaro</a>. We were lucky enough to receive a small Maryland State Arts Council "Creativity Grant" for production, but it is unfortunately not enough to cover all of our costs which include: paying and feeding actors and crew, location and insurance fees, props and wardrobe, transportation and completing the film professionally with an audio mix and color correction. <br /><br />Your donation will assist us in producing the film from start to finish, so that we can submit it to film festivals and online distribution platforms. PANOPLY short film

Patrick Meyer was diagnosed and transported to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI on January 24th with acute liver failure. With his condition, he will be in need of a liver transplant. <br /><br />The past few weeks have begun a strenuous process of getting his body to a stable condition to endure a liver transplant. He is battling issues with other internal organs that have strung from his liver failure. There are constantly new updates to his condition and the medical team at Froedtert is quick to adapt to this rollercoaster process. <br /><br />There is no timeline set on when Patrick will be placed on the transplant list as his body is still fighting to get to a stable condition to endure surgery. <br /><br />The Meyer family and friends have decided to put Patrick's case on GoFundMe to spread word about his condition and for people to keep him in their thoughts and prayers as the process continues. Patrick Meyer & family’s medical journey

It seemed like the “alt-right” got the memo that spewing hateful rhetoric and inciting violence like we saw last year in Charlottesville, Va., only further marginalizes them. The few neo-Nazis, white nationalists and sympathizers who were present at the Unite the Right 2 March were completely dwarfed and drowned out by thousands of counter-protesters. Black Lives Matter DC Core Organizers, Makia and Nee Nee  showed up and organized over 4,000 people to remind the country that although there is a white supremacist in office, the voices of the people will be heard.<br /><br />We raised $12,000 for travel, lodging, supplies, food, after-care, and more. Makia and Nee Nee created an intentional space for resistance, joy and healing for our movement family who joined us on August 12th as volunteers. Now we would like to reach $15,000 to support our freedom fighters.<br /><br />Last year, we witnessed a white supremacist march into Charlottesville that created violence and death. Counter-protestors stood up boldly against mostly white men who were hell-bent on creating a type of chaos reminiscent of the early 1930s and ’40s during the height of lynch mobs. After the protest, Heather Heyer was dead and a city and nation whirled with trauma.<br /><br />A few weeks later, white supremacist protesters decided to show up in Boston with another Unite the Right rally. This time our movement was prepared and with the leadership of Black Lives Matter Boston, Cambridge and a fierce activist, Monica Cannon, they mobilized thousands of folks to show up and counter-protest against a laughably tiny rally of white supremacists.<br /><br />We are living under some of the most frightening times and yet organizations like Black Lives Matter, BYP100 and Building Leaders Organizing for Change —are not just organizing counter-protests against white supremacists, but are on the front lines of changing the way we understand democracy. We march, we vote, we challenge and confront this nation’s underbelly and we are winning<br /><br />They said 400 people full of hate rhetoric would be in D.C. and yet only 25 of them showed up. This is because our work is working. Our movements are developing a sophisticated response to the cowardice of white supremacists who are unable to mobilize their own base to a rally they called for.<br /><br />Sunday was a victory and we have NeNe and Makia to thank for that. It was incredible to see black people: queer, cis, trans, nongender conforming, disabled, immigrants, and our allies all standing up to white supremacy, and experiencing love and joy together. It was beautiful. We are here to get down to business and to send the clear message that we will always stand up for equality and black lives while having fun. Sven Devan Blumquist Memorial Fund ---<br /><br />Sven Devan Blumquist was a spirited young man with a heart of gold. He touched the lives of many and anyone lucky enough to have known him would tell you that he was one of the most genuine people to ever walk this Earth. A true adventurer at heart, this past 4th of July weekend, Sven set off for his 5th The Great Blue Heron Festival, in Sherman, NY. The Heron is a place that means so much for so many, and Sven was no exception. <br /><br />Around 2am early Saturday morning, Sven heard music playing in the distance and set off from his campsite to seek it out. That was the last time that any of his friends saw him. His belongings were left behind, yet he didn't return for them.<br /><br />Sven was officially reported missing the following Monday, and his friends and family tirelessly spent days searching desperately for any sign of him. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.timesobserver.com/news/local-news/2018/07/family-of-missing-warren-man-hoping-for-safe-return-2/" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">http://www.timesobserver.com/news/local-news/2018/07/family-of-missing-warren-man-hoping-for-safe-return-2/</a> <br /><br />His sister, Heather Burkett, organized the search, contacting everyone she could think of, and keeping all of his friends and family updated through social media. Steven works hard full time as a manager at a health and wellness company in Los Angeles, California. Unfortunately, medical insurance was not provided for the first two days of the five that he was in critical condition and on life support in the ICU at Valley Presbyterian Hospital. Due to the substantial recovery time Steven will also be out of work approximately 6 weeks due to the severity of this event.
