Saturday, August 1st, 2026, is a day my family will never forget. It started out so normal—we were prepping for my nephew’s 4th birthday, baking and decorating cupcakes and cakes, laughing and having fun. In a matter of minutes, what should have been a happy, joyous day turned into a scene from a war movie—a nightmare I’d never imagined. Our beloved home and safe space is no longer an option to raise my daughter, and my only goal now is to afford to get her into a new permanent home.

 People have been reaching out and asking what my family needs, and to be honest, we have gathered most of the basic daily essentials to just survive. Beyond that, my mind struggles to think of what else we need right now. What matters most is finding a safe place for my daughter to grow and heal. The funds raised will help cover moving costs, including first and last month’s rent, security deposit, cookware, beds, sheets, blankets, and other essential living needs for a new home.

 I’m starting this fundraising effort for our dear friends Wayne and Michelle Angstrom who lost everything in the Old Trails Fire of August 1st, 2026. Which as of this writing has destroyed 600+ structures and counting.

 To say this is devasting is a massive understatement. Wayne and Michelle have worked tirelessly and in tandem to build a life together after meeting and marrying in 2016.

 Only charred remnants of their life together remain behind for them to pick through and attempt to carry on. They were not home at the time of the fire and raced back to try and save their beloved dogs (Tinka and Baby) and any possessions they could, but the fire was fierce and lightning quick to get to their home and unfortunately the pets did not survive. And less importantly, none of their belongings or other vehicles did either.

 Thankfully Wayne and Michelle were not injured physically by the fire, but the aftereffects will linger for a long time to come.

 Wayne is a lifelong resident of Spokane and has been in the Food Service industry for many years, working in warehousing and driving and ultimately in sales for local companies S&amp;P Meats, Ameristar Meats, and currently US Foods. Wayne has serviced 1000’s of restaurants and institutions in the Western United States for nearly 40 years and has touched tens of thousands of customers with his hard work, honesty, sense of humor and high standards to set himself apart from the rest.

 Wayne loves to hunt, and get out outdoors, whether it’s deep in the woods chasing big game (occasionally actually getting one!) or sitting in a lawn chair at his beloved river retreat, or yelling Go Chiefs Go in the winter watching the Spokane Chiefs, he’s local, loved and locked into PNW lifestyle with the love of his life Michelle.

 Michelle is a talented licensed hair stylist who’s love and compassion for all things that enter her life is unmatched by anyone I’ve ever met, her love of life (and pets and Wayne) is something special to be a part of, she’s open and kind and giving 24/7, happy to be next to the love of her life, friends and family, smiling and gracious always, and just someone fun to be around.

 Miranda is a CNA who has dedicated her career to caring for some of the most vulnerable members of our community, our elderly and medically fragile residents. She works at Spokane Health &amp; Rehabilitation, a skilled nursing facility that was also forced to evacuate during this devastating fire. In an extraordinary emergency response, 109 residents were evacuated from the facility in just 47 minutes and moved to safety as the fire rapidly approached.

 Even in a profession built around caring for others, Miranda is someone who stands out. She is compassionate, hardworking, kind, and the type of person who shows up when someone needs help.

 For a family that watched nearly everything they knew disappear, finding Garfield alive has meant more than words can describe. He is a little piece of their family and a little piece of home that the fire didn't take.

 We are reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for support for my grandparents, Nancy and Tom Brady. They have been living in that house for 50+ years and it meant a lot to them. On August 1st, 2026, the fast-moving Old Trails Fire swept through Spokane. Driven by extreme winds, the fire moved terrifyingly fast. While we are beyond grateful that my grandparents were able to evacuate safely, their home was completely destroyed in the blaze. They lost virtually everything—decades of family memories, clothing, everyday essentials, and the comfort of the place they've called home for years. Standing in front of what remains, starting over feels overwhelming, but we are doing everything we can to surround them with love and support.

 Although the house is still standing, the damage is extensive and has left it unlivable. Their fence was destroyed, windows cracked and melted from the intense heat, and the entire inside of the home has been impacted by heavy smoke damage. On the evening of August 1st, Clint, Mendi, Makayla, Haley, and Derek faced a terrifying ordeal as the Old Trails Fire swept through their Spokane, WA neighborhood. With little time to spare, they gathered their dogs, important papers, their computer, and precious family photo albums before fleeing for their lives. In the midst of chaos, they also helped a neighbor girl who was home alone while her parents were out of town, showing incredible courage and compassion even as their own world was turned upside down.

On August 1, Brittany and her three children—ages 15, 9, and 6—lost their home and nearly everything they owned in the Old Trail Fire.
<br /><br /> Today, they are living in a hotel in Spokane Valley while Brittany works to come up with a plan for stability.
<br /><br /> For this family, losing their home has been an unwelcome turn after an already hard past year. Brittany became a newly single mom after 10 years of marriage. When the family home was sold following her divorce, Brittany used her portion of the proceeds responsibly, paying for an entire year of rent upfront for a place that now doesn’t exist.

<br /><br />Since, Brittany has worked to turn that rental into their home and give her kids a secure place to land while their family adjusted to an entirely new life.
<br /><br /> Then, on August 1, they lost it all.
<br /><br /> Upon her son’s request, Brittany recently took her son back to see where their home once stood. He began crying, devastated at the loss, and wishing only to go back to what they called home.

<div>It is with broken hearts that we share the unexpected loss of Thomas “Tom” McCoy.  Sunday, June 29th, Tom was life flighted from Brewster to Wenatchee for emergency care. He was later flown a second time to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, having experienced a catastrophic brain bleed tragically, there was nothing the doctors could do.
