<div>That moment happens every single day. And for families already struggling financially, it becomes one more painful reminder of what they couldn’t provide for someone they loved.

<div>I have spent over 20 years making sure that moment never happens.
</div>

<div><strong>My name is Van Beard. I am a memorial designer, a community member, and a Garfield High School alumnus rooted in Seattle’s Central District.</strong>

<div>For more than two decades, I have designed funeral programs for grieving families across the greater Seattle area, serving hundreds of families in real moments of loss. I provided many of those programs free of charge because, when a family is devastated and financially overwhelmed, the answer has always been yes.

<div>Not because it was easy. Because it was right.
</div>

<div>I have sat on the phone with mothers who lost their children. I have worked through the night to deliver a program by morning. I have watched families walk into services holding something dignified and beautiful, something that said, without words, that their loved one mattered.

<div>That is why I do this work. That is why I will never stop.

<div><strong>But the cost of compassion is real.</strong>

<div>And then there is the time. Years of experience have allowed me to turn around most rough drafts the same day a family reaches out, something that once took far longer. That speed is a gift to grieving families who have hours, not days, to prepare. But fast doesn’t mean free. It means two decades of refinement, late nights, and a commitment to showing up when it matters most.
