No Family Should Say Goodbye Without a Program
Imagine standing at the door of a funeral home, hours before the service, realizing you have nothing to place in the hands of the people who came to say goodbye.
No program. No order of service. No printed tribute to the life that was lived.
Just empty hands and a grief too heavy to carry alone.
That moment happens every single day. And for families already struggling financially, it becomes one more painful reminder of what they couldn’t provide for someone they loved.
I have spent over 20 years making sure that moment never happens.
My name is Van Beard. I am a memorial designer, a community member, and a Garfield High School alumnus rooted in Seattle’s Central District.
For more than two decades, I have designed funeral programs for grieving families across the greater Seattle area, serving hundreds of families in real moments of loss. I provided many of those programs free of charge because, when a family is devastated and financially overwhelmed, the answer has always been yes.
Not because it was easy. Because it was right.
I have sat on the phone with mothers who lost their children. I have worked through the night to deliver a program by morning. I have watched families walk into services holding something dignified and beautiful, something that said, without words, that their loved one mattered.
That is why I do this work. That is why I will never stop.
But the cost of compassion is real.
Platform fees. Software subscriptions. Design tools. Marketing costs. The cost of running a small business has risen significantly, and 20 years of giving freely have taken a toll. What was once sustainable has become a genuine financial burden. The mission is bigger than ever, but the resources to sustain it are stretched thin.
What many people don’t realize is that professional memorial design doesn’t happen by magic. Behind every program is a stack of monthly subscription costs, design software, digital platforms, marketing tools, and hosting fees that add up quickly. These are the invisible expenses that make the work possible.
And then there is the time. Years of experience have allowed me to turn around most rough drafts the same day a family reaches out, something that once took far longer. That speed is a gift to grieving families who have hours, not days, to prepare. But fast doesn’t mean free. It means two decades of refinement, late nights, and a commitment to showing up when it matters most.
When people receive a beautiful funeral program within hours of asking, the effort behind it can feel invisible. It isn’t. Every design represents real skill, real tools, and real time, given with love, but sustained at real cost.
More families are finding me every day. My social media following is growing, and requests for funeral program design and memorial announcements are coming in faster than I can respond. The need is real, urgent, and constant, and time does not allow me to help everyone who reaches out.
That’s where you come in.
I have launched Forever in Our Hearts, a professionally designed, done-for-you, one-page funeral program available as a completely free digital download to any family who needs it, anywhere in the world.
No forms. No customization. No cost.
Just download, print, and walk into the service with something beautiful in your hands.
Forever in Our Hearts features a breathtaking sunrise landscape, an original poem titled “Gentle Wings,” Psalm 55:6, a complete Order of Service, and a warm family acknowledgment. It is a complete, print-ready program, available right now at Funeral Ready, made possible entirely by the generosity of donors like you.
Every dollar raised goes toward:
- Keeping Forever in Our Hearts free and available to families worldwide
- Covering platform and software costs to keep Funeral Ready running
- Running ads and campaigns to reach grieving families who need a funeral program asap
- Sustaining 20+ years of compassionate memorial design service
This campaign is not just a fundraiser. It is a lifeline.
A lifeline for the mother who can’t afford a program. For the family in another state, scrambling the night before a service. For the grieving son halfway around the world who wants something meaningful to hand to the people who loved his father.
Your donation, whatever amount you can give, helps ensure that every family, in Seattle and around the world, can have a funeral program completely free, with no questions asked.
For two decades, I have given freely, and I am grateful for every family I have been able to serve. Now I am humbly asking my community and the world to invest in this mission, not just for me, but for every family that will experience loss in the days, months, and years ahead.
No family should say goodbye without a program.
With your support, none of them will have to.
The campaign is ongoing. Grief does not follow a calendar, and neither does our commitment to serving families in need. Every donation, today, tomorrow, and in the years ahead, keeps this mission alive and this program free for every family that needs it.
With gratitude and a full heart,
Van D. Beard Jr.
