Jan. 9 update: How this fundraiser supports Marc's recovery

Every penny of this fundraiser will be put to Marc's rehabilitation and medical expenses, which currently amount to approximately $10,000 per day. He'll directly receive your support once it's released by GoFundMe. This fundraiser is being organized by Katie, a D.C. friend of Marc's.

Jan. 8 update

Marc's doing really well. He has: re-learned how to shower (with assistance in a wheelchair); took his first assisted steps using a walker and human support; and practiced moving his legs while watching in a mirror to re-learn awareness of how his legs work.

The biggest piece of all of this is that he went outside for an assisted walk and managed to be up and about for 30 minutes.

He's been able to access funds raised thus far and we've got eight days of rehab paid for on top of the five that his insurance will cover. Please keep the words of encouragement coming--he loves reading them.

If you haven't read Connor Jones' piece in The Register yet, it's got lots of great Marc quotes about what the past week has been like and why your support means so much. Spoiler alert: spicy memes can go a long way.

Stretch goal!

We blew past our initial goal in less than 24 hours.

Because anticipated medical expenses will be through the roof (approximately $10k per day for rehab with only five days covered by his insurance), we're adding a stretch goal. We think we can get to $100k and will keep publicizing this effort to support Marc. If you're moved to share this fundraiser with other people who have been touched by Marc's generosity and kindness, well, here's a beautiful moment to do so.

Jan. 6 update

The great news is that cjunkie is getting ready to be moved to a rehabilitation unit where he'll do occupational and physical therapy. The not so great news is that it's $10k per day and insurance is only covering five days of therapy.

We're on track to hit our initial goal of $50k, which gets him ten days of intensive rehabilitation, but if you're able to give and haven't already, it still really matters.

Why your support matters

cjunkie (Marc Rogers) is an invaluable and beloved member of our hacker community: a great researcher and friend who’s always ready to jump in and help, no matter the project or problem. He recently suffered a whiplash incident that broke his neck and is currently recovering in the hospital. He’s in good spirits and progressing in his recovery but the road ahead is long and unfortunately expensive.

We'd like to proactively solicit contributions to cover medical bills, including therapy costs and rehabilitation facilities.

It’s our turn to give back to someone who’s devoted countless hours championing infosec at all levels and has always been an unwavering source of support to so many of us.

Please donate if you can, and help spread the word. All donations will be directly transferred to Marc.

Support Marc Rogers' Road to Recovery

Hello,

My name is William Knowles, and I’m grateful that you’ve taken a moment to read my story.

After working at my dream security job for two years, I was laid off in December 2022, along with 30% of the company. I was fortunate enough to find new work in April 2023, but sadly, in late January 2024, I was let go again after ten months with the firm. With only three months of emergency funds, things quickly became difficult, and by February, my car was repossessed.

Fast-forward to today and I find myself completely broke. I’ve been relying on the generosity of friends to help cover essentials like food, rent, and internet service so I can continue searching for work.

Any contributions made through this fundraiser will go directly towards covering my rent and monthly medications. I’ve already come dangerously close to eviction, partly because I hesitated to keep my landlord informed about my situation. Your support would mean the world to me as I strive to regain stability.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Support William Knowles in Overcoming Hardship

On July 15 I suffered from a major stroke. Leaving me partially paralyzed, deaf in one ear, and no feeling in the right side of my body. One of the hardest things to do is ask for help, but today I am calling on my angels and my karma bank. The last of my money paid rent, and I am not sure where next months rent is coming from. I still need to see a neurologist, a urologist, and a cardiologist. I have medications that I cannot afford, an amazing wife and 3 beautiful dogs to feed and I don't know what to to do. If you or anyone you know is in a position to help, your donations will be deeply, and gratefully appreciated. If not, prayers are free, we can use those as well. Mexico doesn't have any government programs to aid in these situations and we are in a very bad situation. We just need to get through the next couple months while i recuperate and get back to a position so I can work. Yesterday is over, and tomorrow is not a promise, its what we do today that counts. Im too young to die, god still has a lot of work for me, if you can please help me get back on my feet. Love you

Tim Skorick Family Funeral Expenses

I’m organizing this on behalf of my lifelong best friend Tracy Clark, her husband Ryan has been battling covid since mid July and is in the ICU at this moment still fighting but prognosis is not positive. He is an amazing husband, loving father to two beautiful kids. He is genuinely one of the most caring and kindest human beings you’d ever meet. He’s been in the hospital for weeks. If there is anything you can give to alleviate the mounting bills that are piling up… future expenses the family will have, it would be most appreciated. If you’re not able to give financially, then please lift him and his family up in love and good positive energy and pray for a miracle. You can also help by sharing this post. The family and friends of Ryan deeply appreciate your support and thank you.

Relief for Clark family expenses

Dear friends, families, InfoSec and Startup community,

Lebanon needs your support ! I am raising funds to help our country recover. My phase 1 goal is to raise US$25,000 to provide immediate assistance for basic needs.

First of all let me thank Charles Nouÿrit for hosting this fundraiser in my name. Unfortunately I can't do it from Lebanon due to country restrictions and to banking restrictions. Charles is one of my most trusted friends and he is a trusted member of our community so it seemed natural to ask him to be my proxy. Thank you Charles.

The devastating explosion that took place on August 4th in the Beirut harbor left hundreds dead, many missing and thousands homeless. Homes, hospitals, businesses have been completely destroyed. Hospitals are extremely overwhelmed and forced to turn away injured people. Lebanon is in a state of humanitarian disaster.

My immediate family and myself are safe, thank God, but many have lost everything and assessing the damage and responding to first needs has been overwhelming. On top of that, the severe economic crisis that our country has been going through for the past 10 months, the biggest in its history, has left all of us with no or little access to funds. Poverty has reached nearly 60% of the population and the local currency has devalued to record levels that Lebanon had not seen since the end of its civil war.

The international relief efforts that have been pouring towards Lebanon are staggering, whether from foreign governments or personal initiatives. I thank everyone who is helping, and I am now asking for your support as well.

I’m hoping to raise USD25,000 from my immediate friends and InfoSec family, friends-of-friends and general public to help me cover basic needs of people affected by the blast.

The funds collected will be used in a first phase to purchase food and medical supplies that will be distributed directly to those in need, and in a second phase to help those who can't afford it to start rebuilding their homes. As little as $50 can feed a family of four for one week.

We are collaborating with the NGO Lebanon for Tomorrow .

A lot of people are doing what they can, and this is me trying to spread some relief as well with the help of my beloved community. I am grateful beyond words for any contribution no matter how big or small. Your generosity means the world to me and to the people of Beirut.

Thank you all and God bless.

Khalil Sehnaoui.

-------------------------

Khalil Sehnaoui.

Beirut Relief Fund

Please help our dear friend, Bill, if you can.

On November 20, Bill was hospitalized out of country for gallbladder and pancreatitis. He is still inpatient and money is running out. As of Dec 1, the subtotal is $25,000.

We are thrilled that he is receiving great care as the hospital nearest to him is a world class hospital, so no need to worry about that. However, being out of country, Billiam's American insurance does not work and must pay cash/credit for everything.

Bill has been hospitalized for two weeks already, and we don't know when doctors will release him from the hospital. Room fees alone are more than $1000 a day; that doesn't include procedures, physician fees, etc.

He doesn't yet know that we're starting a gofundme project for his medical bills, but probably will soon. We love our Billiam.

We thank you dearly for helping in any measure that you can. Love you all!

Bill's Medical Emergency Fund

I just got married in December.

Three weeks later, I was diagnosed with cancer.

Last night, my husband was admitted to the emergency room, I don't know when he'll be out or if he'll be OK.

I'm on medical leave, but been turned down for short-term disability. I'm reapplying. I used up all my savings being sick and getting diagnosed.

We're in trouble.

We have mounting medical bills, household bills, and even if I keep resubmitting for short-term disability and eventually get it, we will still be in trouble.

I don't know what to do.

We need help. Any help. Grocery money, gas money, bill money, chemotherapy money.

I'm terrible at asking for help, I've always been the one people go to for help.

But here I am, telling total strangers incredibly personal things about me. Because it's the only way I can see to help myself.

Now is the time to put faith in the kindness of strangers.

Anything helps. And I would be incredibly grateful for any help.

Thanks for reading.
