On November 4, while on a work trip to San Diego, I went into labor unexpectedly, more than five weeks before our baby was due. Our son was immediately admitted to the NICU at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital, where he began receiving support and impressing us with his strength every single day.

The days that followed were filled with gratitude for the doctors and nurses who steadied us, and a growing awareness of how many families live this story without the support system we have.
