Deb, a family friend was diagnosed with breast cancer on 30th November 2000. In the the same week she was diagnosed with uveitis (arthritis in the eyes). Professionals thought she had cancer in her eyes and face.She went through 4 rounds of intense chemo, and the tumour disappeared along with every strand of hair on her body. She eventually got the all clear in 2001. Deb then had to have her first mastectomy, reconstruction and then her second mastectomy. She got 5 year all clear in 2007 but then had a cancer scare in her leg in 2014 and then a lung cancer scare in 2015. Thankfully they both came back clear. She can’t put into words how grateful she is for the charity and the work they tirelessly continue do.♥️   Without the fabulous work that the Womens Cancer Detection Society does day in day out, many women across the North East may not get the crucial early intervention they would need to beat cancer. THIS IS WHY I am so grateful for the service they provide and why they are my chosen charity this year …  I set myself challenges as it not only allows me to help people that are close to my heart but to inspire others to do their bit for charity. I will also be doing the Great North Run 2023 !    Deb has and continues to show so much courage and mental strength and this in itself is such an inspiration. The challenge that we have set is so little in comparison to the challenge that she has faced.   All of the money that is raised will go towards The Women's Cancer Detection Society which is a local charity founded in 1964 to help local women. The WCDS carried out pioneering work in breast cancer screening by running a charity screening service for nearly 20 years. In 1988 the NHS Breast Screening Programme was established and the Charity has since given support by providing equipment and grants for research. I’m taking part in Tour de 4 2026, the cycling event launched by Sir Chris Hoy following his Stage 4 cancer diagnosis. It brings together people living with Stage 4 cancer, alongside friends, families and supporters, to ride side by side and raise vital funds.

The event is about showing that a diagnosis does not define a person, and highlighting what life with Stage 4 cancer can look like: strength, resilience and determination.

All funds raised will go to charities supporting people affected by Stage 4 cancer. If you’re able to donate or share, I’d be incredibly grateful. Every contribution helps provide vital support and care.
