Michelle's Walking Challenge
I'm raising money in aid of Women's Cancer Detection Society, a charity based in the breast cancer screening unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead. It was founded in 1964 to help women in the North East. The charity carried out pioneering work in breast cancer screening by running a charity screening service for nearly 20 years. In 1988 the NHS Breast Screening Programme was established and the charity has since given support by providing equipment and grants for research. The Gateshead Breast Screening Programme screens women living in Gateshead, South Tyneside, Durham and Sunderland.
This walking challenge is to raise vital funds to support the incredible work of Women's Cancer Detection Society, a cause very close to my heart due to personal experiences of cancer within my family. I will be walking in memory of my legendary Nanna who was like a Mam to me. My Nanna was such a beautiful, caring woman who brought immense joy to the world. Nanna would have been 98 in June 2025, and I will walk a minimum of 98 miles in that month in her memory.
Funds will help:
- Provide equipment to diagnose early breast cancer
- Provide grants for breast cancer research
- Support the cost of post graduate researchers
Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
