Hi, I’m Mark, and this January I’m taking on Dry January 2026 in memory of my dad and in support of Treetops Hospice — a place that will forever hold a piece of my heart.
In 2018, my dad passed away after his battle with cancer. It was one of the hardest times of my life, and looking back, I honestly don’t know how we would’ve coped without the incredible nurses at Treetops. They didn’t just care for my dad, they cared for us as a family. They showed compassion, patience, and understanding at a time when we felt completely lost. They gave my dad comfort, dignity, and peace in his last moments. For that, I will always be grateful.
This challenge is my way of honouring him and saying thank you to the people who carried us through those final days.
But Dry January is also deeply personal for me. Over the years, life has had its ups and downs, and somewhere along the way I realised I wasn’t looking after myself the way I should. I want to be here , truly here, for my family, for my future, and for a new venture I’m pouring my heart into. I want to feel healthier, clearer, and stronger, both physically and mentally. So this January, I’m hitting the reset button.
Giving up alcohol for a month might seem small, but for me it represents something much bigger: a fresh start, a promise to myself, and a tribute to my dad.
If you’re able to donate, no matter how small, it would mean the world to me. Your support will not only keep me going throughout the month, but it will help Treetops continue giving families the same care, comfort, and compassion they gave ours.
Thank you, truly, from the bottom of my heart.
