Preventing Coronavirus for Left-Behind Children
PREVENTING CORONAVIRUS FOR THE LEFT-BEHIND CHILDREN IN RURAL CHINA
CAMPAIGN PURPOSE:
Raise money to buy personal hygiene supplies (antiseptic soap, tissues, etc) for the left-behind children in rural China.
Hello, thank you for taking the time to read about this fundraiser. We are Shin Shin Youth Group, a youth volunteer organization affiliated with Shin Shin Educational Foundation. We volunteer locally through community volunteer events and globally through long-term projects to help elementary school students in rural China. You can find more information about Shin Shin Youth Group on our website https://shinshinyouthgroup.weebly.com
WHAT IS HAPPENING?
Since December 2019, the novel coronavirus COVID-19 has surged past 113,000 confirmed cases (there may be more that are yet to be confirmed) and have already claimed the lives of over 4,000 people. A lot of attention is currently placed in the urban setting; however, we are not giving enough attention to rural schools.
WHERE WILL THE MONEY GO?
The money fundraised will be going to Shin Shin Educational Foundation, a non-profit volunteer organization whose main mission is to provide support for the left behind children (children who live typically live with extended family in rural China because their parents work in the cities in search of better job opportunities). Established in 1997, Shin Shin Educational Foundation has renovated 338 schools in China, impacting over 350,000 children. This foundation has volunteers in both the US and China. Every year, Shin Shin Educational Foundation spends about half a million dollars to fund various projects for schools in rural China.
Shin Shin Educational Foundation will use 100% of funds received to buy personal hygiene items (antiseptic bar soap, tissues, etc) for these children. The Shin Shin Educational Foundation volunteers in China will buy and distribute supplies to minimize logistic costs.

WHY LEFT-BEHIND CHILDREN?
Yes, children are less susceptible to coronavirus. However, this does not mean children do not get coronavirus; it only means that coronavirus is less harmful to them. As aforementioned, many of these children in rural China live with their grandparents or other older relatives. As a result, they may transmit coronavirus to their relatives. Studies show that coronavirus affects older people more severely. In addition, these children live in rural China, where lack of proper sanitation makes the contagious coronavirus a dangerous threat.
We also want to support these children because many of us have personal experiences with them. As part of our involvement in this organization, we teach classes to these underprivileged students in China, video conferencing during the school year (for more well-developed schools) and a visit to one school during early summer (https://tinyurl.com/ssygsummer). During our visit last summer, one child said his dream school was Harvard University. Despite their underprivileged social background, these children are incredibly ambitious, and the least we can do is to support their goals. Now, they are currently at home, trying to avoid getting coronavirus or spreading it to others. Instead, they should be going to school to pursue their bright futures and fulfill their dreams.
Please support my campaign, the left-behind children of rural China need your immediate help! Thank you, and I hope you have a wonderful day!
