Kali found her way to IAR several weeks ago when life for her and her owner changed during Covid. Unfortunately, Kali became under the weather after moving from her home into care with IAR. Moving and change is very hard, especially for many cats- we believe this is a contributing factor for Kali and she began to have URI symptoms along with not eating due to not being able to smell her food.
After several days of local vet visits and supportive care to help turn her around, on Sunday, April 10th it was decided that Kali needed intense care if she was going to get through this. Kali was taken to BluePearl Emergency Vet in Cary early on Sunday where she was admitted needing critical care.
Although in stable condition, Kali was clearly in need of help. She was started on continuous IV fluids, along with stronger antibiotics. Kali is congested, possibly nauseous, and not eating with her upper respiratory infection.
Being a cat of 9 years of age there has been some concern of possible toxoplasmosis, elevated liver values due to not eating, and elevated bilirubin (jaundice risk). To keep all of these risks at bay and to help her get well, Kali has been admitted and under ICU care at Blue Pearl vet since Sunday.
Good news is!!!!..... she has improved every day! She has felt better since Tuesday AM, purring, being her sweet self.
However still not eating :( A huge deal, especially for cats!
Today Dr. Skiles stated that Kali is perked up even more today (Wednesday), purring up a storm, and stable enough to receive an E tube (feeding tube) so we can get nutrition in her. Her labs look good today and with improvement! All elevated levels have decreased significantly back to normal or near normal. She will need to be put under a bit of sedation to have the feeding tube placed today. At this time they will also give her a nasal flush to hopefully clear out this stubborn congestion keeping her stopped up and uncomfortable.
Blue Pearl is giving Kali girl the best care in the world! Even sitting with her offering her warm tuna and salmon!
We believe in Kali and her care team at Blue Pearl are confident she can and will pull through this supportive care. Kali is fighting, happy, and perked up, and with that we feel we owe it to Kali to help her get through this since she is trying so hard.
I am reaching out to ask for help for Kali's care! We are getting an estimate of $10,000 at this time for Kali's care. This includes her ICU care since Sunday, plus her having the procedure done today for the feeding tube placement and nasal flush. This procedure can be done today and Kali can be discharged tomorrow!!! WooHoo!
Kali needs your help to get through this!
Please consider a donation! Every bit counts, $1, $5, $10- any amount you can give to Kali is much appreciated.
If you find it in your heart, please consider donating. If you are unable to, we certainly understand and appreciate you also. Please share Kali's campaign to your own Facebook page, Twitter, and Instagram! Send by text and email to everyone you know and spread the word. Kali's fundraiser not only helps her but goes to helping all the other cats that come IAR's way that are in need of help just like Kali.
Thank you ALL! Keep you all posted as we get updates.
