Giving Tuesday is a Global Initiative which focuses on giving every person a chance to be part of radical generosity in a world of need. At Hostage US this means inviting everyone to participate in creating an organization that leaves no American hostage or wrongful detainee, or their family members, without necessary resources. On the Tuesday following the American Thanksgiving holiday, we ask our community to consider their bounty and share a part of their abundance with families who are suffering unfathomable fear and immeasurable grief over the detention of a loved one overseas.

Now more than ever, we are asked to provide resources and support to families who do not know the fate of their loved one held captive overseas. Wherever a captive is held, Hostage US is present for their families.

Hostage US exists to provide resources for families as they await the return of their loved one and support for the captives when they begin their long journey home and return to their new normal. We do this completely free of charge through partnerships with expert service providers and donations from people like you.

During this year’s Giving Tuesday, held on the 28th of November, Hostage US is looking to raise $30,000 to support families and returning hostages who need assistance. We appreciate that this is a bold goal, but we are acutely aware that Hostage US is the only organization in America which does the work that we do… giving hope to frightened families where there is none.

Hostage US is a 501c3 non-profit organization that supports families of Americans taken hostage or wrongfully detained abroad and supports hostages and detainees when they return home. Each year, an estimated 200 Americans are taken hostage overseas. We are here to help families survive this terrifying ordeal and help former hostages rebuild their life after captivity.

Every year, a dedicated group of individuals trains and participates in the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon and 5K race in Washington DC in support of Hostage US and our mission. Through this endeavor, Hostage US has raised over $40,000 from 2017-2022 which goes directly to providing practical support to the hostages, wrongful detainees, and families Hostage US is proud and honored to support. Whether you choose to join team Hostage US for the 5K or the half marathon or to cheer on from the sidelines, we encourage you to consider donating to Hostage US in support of the runners and our mission.

Hostage US supports Americans taken hostage or wrongfully detained abroad and their families. We provide emotional, legal, financial, mental health, travel, and other free assistance to the families and former captives. We offer services in the non-operational places where support is so desperately needed, and we ease the burden that hostage-taking can bring to a family, organization, and community. These families suffer in silence and returning hostages and wrongful detainees face months or even years of recovery to rebuild their lives. Hostage US offers captives and their families the support they need to survive this terrifying ordeal.
