Hey, Y’all!
The recently formed Friends of Willow Heights Task Force is working towards purchasing 50 new EnergyStar-rated air conditioning units for our neighbors at Willow Heights and we need your help! We are issuing a challenge of 7 days to reach our goal (final day to contribute is Friday, July 27th).
Temperatures are expected to skyrocket in the coming weeks and, currently, many of our residents at Willow Heights public housing have NO AIR CONDITIONING in this blazing summer heat. Imagine having to endure the heat of the day because you can't afford a working AC unit. Imagine trying to cook your kids’ supper when your late afternoon indoor air temperature is hovering at around 110 degrees.
Many of the residents who do have air conditioning window units are using older models that are expensive to run and don’t pump out a lot of clean, cool air. Some tenants at Willow Heights, like Donna Parks, use an a/c unit in windows to keep cool. Parks and her two children are currently using three window units to cool her home, which puts a strain on her already tight budget. "We have to use the window units, there's no getting by without it." Parks said.
These new, energy efficient window a/c units will not only help keep residents stay cool but can also help lower their overall utility bills.
