<div>Our grandmother Sarun Mao, was the heart of our family - a smart, strong, kind, and heartless woman who always knew how to make us laugh and always feel welcomed and loved. She was the kind of woman who did not even know who you were or cared where you came from but always told you to come and eat. That was her way of welcoming you. Her presence filled our home with warmth and love, and she was always someone you could count on, no matter what.

<div>On April 16th, 2026 at 1:30AM, Yaey was called to come home to Heaven to be at peace. She fought a really long battle of many sicknesses and still remained strong to be here in our lives everyday. Although we knew her time would soon come, we knew that she gave it her all.

<div>We are all devastated and heartbroken that she has passed away, but also very grateful we got to spend every last second with her.

<div>It is with a heavy heart that the Tovar family announces the sudden and impactful passing of <strong>Jose “Chuy” Tovar</strong>, beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. If you knew Chuy, you know that his laugh was infectious, his charm was through the roof, and his character was one of a kind. He had the best intentions and invited you to come out of your shell and try something new. Chuy’s viewpoints could not be summed up in a few words, and if you were fortunate enough to spend any time with him, you would understand why and have a smile on your face. Chuy might not be with us, but he leaves a legacy through his daughters, granddaughters, mother, sister, brothers, nephews, nieces, cousins, and you, his loved ones.

<div>On the morning of October 7, 2024, a tragic event struck our family. My husband Manny, who had just completed a Father-Daughter Cycling Marathon the day before, was exhausted and sore, so he made the responsible decision to call off work and rest at home. What should have been a quiet day of recovery turned into a nightmare when a sudden explosion shook our home. The cause is still under investigation, but the consequences were immediate and devastating.

<div>We are incredibly thankful that some of our neighbors were home and heard the explosion. Without hesitation, they rushed in and bravely pulled my husband from the flames before the fire grew uncontrollable. The Long Beach Fire Department arrived quickly and managed to extinguish the blaze before it spread further, but the damage had already been done.

<div>My husband suffered severe 2nd and 3rd degree burns across much of his body. He is currently in the ICU, fighting to heal. Our family, however, has lost everything. Our home, a symbol of years of hard work and sacrifice, is gone. As Filipino immigrants, we worked tirelessly to build a life and create a home where our family could thrive. After only a year of enjoying our dream home, it was cruelly taken away in an instant.

Help Our Family Rebuild After Tragedy

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Chea Roeun; a dearly beloved grandmother, mother, daughter, sister and friend. <br /><br />Those that knew her got to experience her kind heart, generosity and warm smile. Chea was the type of person to brighten up a room with her lively spirit. She cared very much for the people she loved, and it showed through her bountiful nature. <br /><br />The oldest of five, a young Chea came to America in 1985 with her family while escaping the tragedy of the Khmer Rouge in her native country of Cambodia. Although she was away from her homeland, Chea always showed an immense amount of pride in her cultural heritage. <br /><br />Settling in Long Beach, CA, Chea gave birth to three beautiful children that were her pride and joy; Christa, Dustin, and Leeon. Chea expressed the importance of family, and always worked hard to provide for her loved ones. Spending time with family and friends, singing karaoke, cooking her favorite Khmer dishes, and having a good time was what made her the happiest. <br /><br />Although Chea's life was short, she touched the hearts of so many during her 50 years here on earth. Her untimely passing comes as a surprise to all of us, and our family is grieving an immeasurable loss.<br /><br />We understand that times are difficult for everyone, so a donation of any size, or a share would be greatly appreciated.

Help Hannah Heal <br /><br />Despite a dynamic and outgoing personality, Hannah has suffered through mysterious ailments for most of her life without anyone, family,  friends, or doctors, knowing the cause of the issues. Known genetic complications from birth, including Osteogenesis Imperfecta (fragile bones) and Scoliosis (curved spine), led to multiple surgeries and broken bones, while never explaining other pervasive symptoms, such as fatigue, generalized pain, debilitating nausea, and more. Hannah was tested for every medical likelihood her family and doctors could think of, including, at the time Lyme disease, but the results came back negative, as often happens with Lyme. Recently, a series of unfortunate car accidents in which she was not at fault resulted in hospitalization and a significant decline in health which Hannah has been unable to recover from.  She experienced complications such as infections,elevated cardiac troponin levels and problems with her memory, to name a few. In the process of trying to find out why she could not heal from her car accidents and what was going on with the other health issues she took numerous tests, and in the end was diagnosed with late stage chronic Lyme disease, along heavy metal poisoning and Bartonella, which is a Lyme co-infection and very difficult to treat.<br /><br />Now that we finally understand a major cause of Hannah's health problems the next step is to improve her health before it is too late. Although Lyme cannot be fully cured at this stage, it can be controlled, and Hannah has the ability to live a full and fulfilling life. Unfortunately, Lyme treatment is very expensive and most of it is not covered by insurance.  Hannah found highly regarded medical facilities in Mexico which offer cutting edge alternative treatments at a fraction of the cost of those in the US. However, these are still far beyond her current means, as are the necessary follow up treatments needed when she returns. Lyme can lead to premature and permanent conditions with her mind and heart, so it is crucial that Hannah receives treatment and controls the Lyme quickly. Some of these late-stage Lyme symptoms have already begun to manifest in Hannah and ultimately, at this rate, her body will no longer be able to fight off infections, causing the disease to become fatal.  Already Hannah is bedridden most days, in significant pain and struggling to manage basic tasks. Her list of symptoms is long, and ranges from memory loss and depression to severe pain, numbness/tingling and exhaustion; all of which are well-known Lyme symptoms.<br /><br />We are asking for help from friends and loved-ones so that Hannah can heal and return to her joyful and generous self. Every gift is meaningful, as are your thoughts and prayers. Greetings Friends and Family,<br /><br />In September of 2012, Jinnifer Som, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor at the age of 21. She fought the cancer bravely, pushing well past the 14 month timeline that doctors gave her. Friday, February 13th 2015, after courageously facing three craniotomies, and multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, we brought her home to live out her final days surrounded by loved ones. <br /><br />Jinny’s spirit is loving, thoughtful, fierce, and beautiful. What truly defines Jinny is her desire to help others and to give back. Jinny was always passionate about volunteerism. She spent countless hours working with the Long Beach Red Cross, and even after her brain tumor diagnosis, she continued to volunteer despite undergoing treatment. She dedicated time to the National Brain Tumor Society, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Brides Against Breast Cancer, and many other organizations.<br /><br />To honor Jinny, we humbly ask for donations of any size to go towards honoring her last wish. Your donations will help us find a little piece of earth overlooking the Pacific Ocean and a living urn that will grow into a tree.
