<div>Like so many people in the Los Angeles area, my longtime producer and bass player Paul Bryan had his home destroyed in the recent fire. He had a studio set up in his house in a small converted garage space, where I have spent countless hours recording with him. I did my last five records here in this little space, populated with bits and pieces of instruments and equipment gathered over the years. He had a little vocal booth area set up in the laundry room, where you had to make sure the spin cycle was finished. Sometimes the dog would bark and ruin a take.

<div>Paul was just finalizing a list of equipment to renew his insurance but hadn’t sent it out yet, and so NOTHING was insured at the time of the fire. The Steinway from the 1800’s that he’d found 30 years ago, that all of my record Mental Illness was played on, all of my last album Queens of the Summer Hotel. The Chamberlain that was almost impossible to find. Vintage basses and guitars, vintage equipment that would now cost a fortune to replace. Because of an extra shitty twist of fate, Paul’s car was in the shop when the evacuation was called, and he was hardly able to rescue anything. It’s a hard pill to swallow.

<div>Let me tell you about Paul. He is most dedicated musician I know, a tireless worker and practicer, someone who will go way out of his way to help you do what you need to do. For him, the show really must go on, and it doesn’t matter what terrible thing has just happened to him, he is going to show up. All he cares about is making what you are doing better. He has gone out of his way for me a thousand times, and so I want to go out of my way for him. I know a lot of people are asking for donations right now, so if you can only give a little, I get it. But the hope that he can one day rebuild and have a place to make music in is worth its weight in gold right now. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

<div>It is a sad state of affairs when watching a dear friend’s health deteriorate to the point that it greatly impacts his quality of life. Such is the case with my friend of 60 years, Harry Popick. 
</div>

<div>Many Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead fans will remember Harry as he worked with the band for 20 years as their On Stage Monitor Engineer (M.E.). If you looked at the stage during any concert, it was always Harry at the sound board working to ensure that the band experienced the best quality sound possible. Harry was instrumental in conceptualizing the idea of the “Tour Ticket”, where serious fans could essentially buy a ticket to each of the band’s tours.

<div>Those who interacted with him knew him as a kind, amiable and generous person. With a quick wit and a constant smile Harry was and still is loved by many fans. He has always reached out and lent a helping hand to those less fortunate than him. Frequently, Harry would walk outside to the ticket line and randomly give out free tickets to unsuspecting and very “grateful” fans. His close friends also got the benefit of his generosity by receiving back stage passes where we could party, share in the food and enjoy the concerts up close. Good times were had by all.

<div>When Jerry Garcia died in 1995, Harry left the band and used his Union membership to get various employment opportunities that would carry him for many years into the future. Unfortunately, while working and enjoying the Union jobs, Harry suffered a stroke. After 9 months of difficult physical therapy he was fortunately able to resume work, though he is still plagued with chronic muscle contraction issues in his right hand.
</div>

<div>Unfortunately, around 2010 Harry had to leave his friends and family in California and move to Florida for the next 5 years to help his family deal with his brother’s health issues. During that time bad luck struck again when Harry was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo surgery. While recovering he still continued to assist with his brother’s care giving. After a lengthy illness, his brother eventually passed away forcing Harry to move out and find economical housing. Now living on a fixed income he moved into a small, single wide trailer with a friend.
</div>

</div>
<div>During that time Harry started experiencing pain in his hip necessitating a hip replacement operation and painful physical therapy. The end result left Harry with a permanent disability resulting in difficulty walking. Soon after, the Pandemic struck exacerbating Harry’s problems by forcing him to spend most of his time in his small living quarters. To make matters worse his friend decided to move out, which dramatically impacted Harry’s financial burden even further by doubling his cost of rent and utilities. He had to sell his car and start using public transportation in order to make ends meet. By then the thought of ever being able to move back to the west coast became a dim prospect.
</div>

<div>Recently he has been diagnosed with Hypertension (chronic high blood pressure) as well as debilitating Sciatica. Simple tasks such as walking, bending or sitting for any length of time have become arduous endeavors. Though struggling with all his health setbacks and balancing his financial burdens, Harry has remained a devoted father and to the best of his ability, given his small fixed income, every month he still has financially assisted his daughter who is ill in Northern California.

<div>I am posting this in an effort to reach out to the thousands of Grateful Dead fans who knew Harry directly or indirectly and to anyone sympathetic to the hardship Harry is having to endure. I hope all of you can find it in your heart to contribute to the fund in an effort to raise enough money for this wonderful, compassionate and generous man. We all want him to be able to improve his quality of life. He deserves a chance to live out his dream of moving to Southern Oregon and spend his remaining years in comfortable, affordable housing, have a reliable car, be closer to his daughter and also have his close friends nearby to assist him when it’s necessary.

Unexpected Medical

<div><span class="ql-cursor">﻿</span>My name is Shara, I started my “Nano” role almost 30 years ago with the Candelario family, as Cody’s (Kidd’s kid) nanny.  I have currently been spending time helping with Kidd’s recovery.

<div>Over the course of the past two Go Fund Me efforts, we’ve successfully raised enough to cover his medical care and living expenses. (This was not true, at the time I had no idea that the family had not done the correct thing. Edit date 7/28/23).

<div>It has been a year, and while he continues to improve, the assisted living facilities that he has been staying in are crazy expensive, and frankly not in his best interest for his recovery.  He is still not able to live on his own physically or financially, and he has run out of funds again.

<div>So my husband and I decided to make room for him in our home, and we moved him from Bello Gardens to Fairfax in early July.  Our immediate goal is to get Kidd back into the world.  Enjoying family, friends, pets and good old fashion living.  We offer strong encouragement for him to walk, lift weights, and generally being more responsible for his daily tasks. Our long term goal is to get him well enough to live independently, with government support.

Support For Paul During His Recovery

<div>On June 15, 2023 Dave had an unfortunate fall and sustained a serious fracture to his leg.   He was just getting back on his feet and recovering from a complicated hip fracture mid-December that required surgery, a week in the hospital, and many months of recovery.   
</div>

</div>
<div>The new fractures in his tibia and fibula were so traumatic they could not be treated locally, and he was transferred to Hartford Hospital. Because of the nature of the injury and the extensive swelling, bone repairs with pins and plates will need to wait for a week or two. In the meantime, he had surgery to install an external brace which is screwed into the ankle and the femur to keep the bones aligned. He will be heading to rehab while waiting for the second surgery. 
</div>

</div>
<div>Looking ahead there will be many more months of medical care and a long recovery.  It will be a while before he will be able to get back to his day job painting business, giving drum lessons and gigging. The lack of income in the past six months has been challenging for Dave and his family. And with this new hurdle, that hardship has intensified.

<div>Dave is a valued member of our community, whose kindness and generosity are known by many.  Whether creating fundraisers for non-profit organizations or providing the uplift of music to one and all, Dave’s benevolent spirit has cast a wide net. <div>Hi, I am Susan Debronsky, a customer of the Johnk Family Farm in Greenville, NY. Becky, Alex and their young daughter live in an idyllic setting in Greene County, NY, where they raise cows, hogs and goats and sell their products at their self-serve / honor system farm stand, where they sell their beef and pork products, as well as local eggs, milk, maple syrup, etc.

<div>Recently, Becky received a diagnosis that is about to shake their world. In her words:

<div>Chordoma is diagnosed in just 1 in 1,000,000 people per year. That means that about 300 patients are diagnosed with chordoma each year in the United States. At any given time, fewer than 1 in 100,000 people are living with chordoma. <a href="https://www.chordomafoundation.org" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><a href="https://www.chordomafoundation.org/" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://www.chordomafoundation.org/</a></a>
</div>

<div>Becky started looking into high-risk doctors in hopes of having another child. She had suffered from extreme tailbone pain since having their daughter Lorraine, just trying to rock her newborn. In 2018 an MRI showed a growth on her tailbone, but that doctor prescribed she lose weight. She then went through countless misdiagnoses and daily physical challenges, even being forced to use a cane for everyday farm work in her early thirties. In late 2021, Alex and Becky decided they needed to find a new doctor to evaluate this issue before moving forward with expanding their family. After a biopsy at Albany Med, they were faced with the diagnosis of Conventional Coccygeal Chordoma.
</div>

<div>Treatment for Becky will be a lengthy process, and there are still so many unknowns. Becky currently spends all her time running their family farm and with their daughter. Alex works full-time off the farm and luckily does have health insurance. The plan will be for her to travel to Mass General Cancer Center in Boston, Massachusetts. To start, the Care Team will need to make sure the Chordoma has not spread to her spine or to vital organs. Then will start treatment for four weeks of proton radiation. Becky plans to travel with her mother for treatment and come home on weekends to see her daughter and catch up on farm management. After a month of proton radiation, the care team plans to send her home for about a month to rest up for major surgery. The surgery is extremely difficult due to the location on the spine and the nerves involved. There is the possibility of her losing bladder control and sexual function. Her Care Team expects her to be in the hospital for two weeks and the doctors are hoping it will only be a day-long surgery. After she recovers from the surgery, she will then have to return for 6 weeks of proton radiation. This is the tentative plan of treatment.
</div>

<div>Becky’s biggest concern is keeping their farm running and caring for her child. She works every day caring for 40 head of cattle, 50 head of hogs, and 30 pygmy goats. She keeps the farmstand open, cleaned and stocked daily as with managing monthly wholesale. Hay season is just around the corner. They have no hired help on the farm, and Alex and Becky work together to keep everything running. Inflation is hitting everyone hard. The financial concerns are with bills, such as fuel, utilities, childcare, and unforeseen expenses such as lodging and necessary recovery treatments.

Help Scott & Emily Recover after Devastating Fire

<div>Le Petit Mur De Son is dedicated to rebuilding the Grateful Dead's legendary Wall of Sound from 1974. The intent of this series of projects is to preserve The Walls place in history and allow people to experience what so few were able to! Each in this series of walls will be increasing in size until the full scale wall is completed. Currently the 1/2 scale wall is underway and will be100% functional as the original. The goal at completion it to make the wall available to venues and musicians so that music fans can experience The Wall of Sound as they would have nearly 50 years ago. If fundraising is successful I expect a late spring/early summer completion of the half scale wall. In doing so I expect the interest to peak and for a plan to take shape for the final phase of the project.

<div>I am a luthier and in addition to guitars I make speaker cabinets professionally. As a lifelong Deadhead, The Wall of Sound has always struck me as a part of history that should be preserved and enjoyed by future generations. I started this project 6 months ago in miniature form creating the 1/6 scale Wall of Sound. The progress was documented and shared via social media and the interest in the project grew rapidly with over 750,000 people having seen content from the original projects. In the spring of 2021 it was featured on the front page of The Wall Street Journal. Various publications, websites, podcasts and radio shows have done interviews about the project. Those include Fretboard Journal, Liveforlivemusic.com, Tales From the Golden Road, Dean Delray and others.

<div>What started as a side project to gauge interest in rebuilding The Wall of Sound has quickly evolved into a full fledged plan to accomplish the project in stages. To this point the projects have been self financed with the help of a few private collector sales and a LOT of volunteer hours logged by many people. If we are to see this project through to completion I will need your help!

<div><strong>Stage 2:</strong> (Completed) 1/4 scale wall that supports multi-track playback, stereo playback and live performance. This version is powerful enough for small clubs and functions as a hybrid wall. It demonstrates the features of the original Wall of Sound while remaining flexible in it's use. The ideal use was demonstrated at Garcia's at the Capitol Theatre where we played recorded music through the wall prior to Phil Lesh playing the main stage. Then we switched to a direct feed from the soundboard and broadcast the live performance. The 1/4 scale wall measures roughly 14' wide by 10' tall and handles well upwards of 6,000 watts through 8 channels. One of these walls raised $100k for Headcount.org, a voter registration non-profit. A second was sold to a private collector and a third was retained for private events, fundraising for future projects, exhibits etc.

<div><strong>Stage 3:</strong> Now on to the 1/2 scale wall which will again be a hybrid wall allowing for even more control. It ill be geared towards performance with the ability to play multi-tracks as well. It will measure roughly 17' tall by 30' wide and have a minimum of 16 separate amplified and controlled speaker arrays that will give musicians similar control over their own sound as the original wall. Total power will exceed 20k watts.

<div>Stage 4: Rebuild the full scale wall as a permanent installation to serve as both a functioning venue and a museum of sorts. The full scale wall will measure 30+ feet tall x 50+ft wide. It will not fit your typical music venue. Let’s cross that bridge when we get there!

<div>Q: How will my donation be used?
</div>
<div>A: All funds will be used for the current phase 3 of the project. Roughly 600 speakers, 150+ speaker cabinets, amplifiers, cabling, mixers, mics, scaffolding, rigging, storage units, testing facilities, lighting etc. Many have donated time and resources to this project and vendors have graciously extended significant price reductions to be involved. That said, there is a lot of work to do and this is a full time endeavor for myself and one other craftsman. A fair wage is accounted for as well as labor from various sources where outside help is required. ****CONSTANT UPDATES ON THE PROJECT WILL DEMONSTRATE WHERE YOUR DONATION IS BEING USED**** Any excess contributions will be allotted to phase 4 of the project.

<div>Q: How will I be able to see the completed project?
</div>
<div>A: It is my hope that the project will be financed solely through donations and my own contributions. If I am successful I would like to organize a residency program of sorts where a venue can have The Wall for several months at a more reasonable cost. This would allow for the wall to be displayed and accessibly to people in different areas.

<div>A: There will be volunteer opportunities along the way. I will share needs as they arise. If you have a venue or individual that would be interested in hosting or commissioning a 1/4 or 1/2 scale wall send them my way. These private sales have allowed me to continue this and will be necessary to keep things going through full scale.

<div>Our dear, dear friend and musician, artist, writer, DJ, archivist, scene maker and trouble maker, Howie Pyro, has been battling cirrhosis of the liver and he is not one to ask for help though he is badly in need. A few of us have gotten together to create this Go Fund Me to raise money for his day to day expenses, his medical bills and liver transplant. <div>Howie Pyro's influence is everywhere. He has devoted his lifetime to music. He has become an omniscient connoisseur and a major collector of truly rare records &amp; pop culture items in general. He started out in the 1970s playing in NY's underage band The Blessed in NY venues such as Max’s Kansas City, CBGB and others. He formed Heavy ‘80s rock band Freaks and then moved on to major label recording and touring band D Generation, and then became a member of the world famous hard rock band Danzig. He has played, recorded, and/or written with Johnny Thunders, Rancid, Genesis P-Orridge, Danzig, Debbie Harry, Kid Congo Powers, Jayne County, Alan Vega and more.

<div>He has devoted 15 years to his widely listened to radio show Intoxica Radio, an infectious two hour show playing what he calls “the weird stuff", blending ‘50s and ‘60s rock n’roll from original 45 rpm records into a manifestation of wild songs, sound bites, interjections, music facts, and live in studio interviews. You can hear Intoxica on Podomatic, SPOTIFY and all those other places you tune into internet shows. It’s also broadcasted live on Tuesday nights on Luxuria Music.com. The show has been simulcast onto WFMU and many, many other listener avenues.

<div>A world renown live DJ, he has been a regular and a guest at various large venues performing for special events as well as touring DJ for rock band Rival Sons. He was the DJ for premiere parties including Madmen (TV Series) and has spun for Christina Aguilera, The Cramps, Cinespia, Pink, Fashion shows for Vivienne Westwood and many more, a regular at GreendoorNYC, the Annual Johnny Ramone Tribute at Hollywood Forever Cemetary, Tiki Oasis, Jonathan Toubin’s yearly Halloween bash in Brooklyn NY and others.

He has performed with Anohni and the cream of the NY performance and freak superstars in the early ‘90s weekly infamous BLACK LIPS PERFORMANCE CULT.

<div>It was in the 4th inning that Ron Hunt, playing in the second year of his major league career, doubled off Bob Friend for the very first extra-base hit by a Met in their new ballpark. The next batter, catcher Jesse Gonder, singled to right, and the powerful legs of 23-year-old Ronald Kenneth Hunt churned around third and slid into home plate. It was the first run ever scored by a New York Met at Shea.

<div>Three games later those same legs would trot around the bases, after Hunt hit the first Met home run in the new park at Flushing Meadows.

<div>Now, due to Parkinson’s Disease, the legs of Ron Hunt are giving out. The first Met to ever start in an All-Star game cannot move from one room to another without a walker; cannot turn around without the risk of falling; cannot take a stroll with his wife Jackie, or their dog, Bella.

<div>There are costly new treatments that Ron has taken, and they have helped – but they are incredibly expensive, and not covered by any insurance.  The bottom line is that he desperately needs more and lacks the funds, and while he won’t ask for financial help (I think you know how tough he is), I will.  I’m a fan who discovered his first baseball hero at age 12, and he’s been an inspiration to me my whole life.  It's time to give back.<br /><br />
