<div>My name is Jordan Smith, and I'm the owner of Small Comforts Kitchen, a gluten-free bakery in Knoxville, TN. We opened our brick &amp; mortar location in May of 2025 but have faced significant setbacks due to construction and access issues on our property. I'm asking for community support to help us stabilize the business during this season of setbacks.

<div>I opened SCK in 2022 because I have celiac disease, and I wanted to share my seasonally inspired, gluten-free baking with our community. What started as a home business grew into a farmers' market pop-up &amp; coffee shop supplier. I opened our brick &amp; mortar location in May 2025, only to have to close it this January.

<div>We've had issues with our location's access &amp; visibility from the beginning, but in October, construction began on the courtyard outside our main entrance. The impact to our foot traffic and access caused a huge sales drop during the holiday season. I was told construction would be finished in mid-February, so at the end 2025 I decided to temporarily close the storefront, stopping the major losses, but keep the space as a bakery &amp; focus on the parts of the business that were steady in the meantime: farmers’ markets, pop-ups, &amp; wholesale.

<div>It's June now. Construction still isn’t finished. I'm stuck.

<div>Back in the winter, I was scrambling to make up for the losses we were experiencing, and I took on high-interest debt. I didn’t want to lay off staff at Christmas, and I believed, based on the timeline I was given, that we could recover quickly. But now, with that emergency debt still hanging over us, I'm paying storefront overhead and storefront debt WITHOUT the benefit of a viable storefront.

<div>The good news is: our current market, pop-up, &amp; wholesale model is working. Without the debt, we’d actually be financially healthy. We could keep baking, showing up, supplying our coffee shops, and eventually reopen the storefront from a steadier place.

<div>But with the debt as it is, practically all my revenue is going to repayment. The business can't breathe &amp; I'm running out of options. So, I'm launching a GoFundMe to help us get through this season.

A few months ago, she came to us with an idea: what if we built a queer little library right here at Red’s? And now... it’s happening! What started as one idea is now a volunteer-led, collective effort powered by a whole crew of folks who believe in the vision.

<div>To raise funds, we’re hosting a fundraiser on Thursday, June 26th at Red's Beer Garden. We're kicking things off with a Queer Book Swap at 6:30 pm - bring a book, take a book! Then at 7:30 pm, it’s time for bingo, hosted by our friends Adam and Kieran from Trans Joy. Bingo card donations will go directly toward building the Red’s Reading Rainbow: a queer little library for the community. Our goal is to raise $500 to purchase, build and install it, and anything extra will be donated to Trans Joy, a local nonprofit offering accessible grants for gender-affirming care and comprehensive support, including medical, mental health, and essential resources.

<div>Hi everyone, I’m Evan. I’m an trans man and I’ve been on testosterone for nine years, and at this point a hysterectomy is a medically necessary procedure for me. Each year I go without it increases my risk of reproductive cancers and other serious health issues, so this surgery is about protecting my long-term health and being able to live my life with a little more peace and safety.

<div>I don’t have health insurance right now, and I’m working three service industry jobs just to keep up with basic bills. By the time rent, utilities, and groceries are covered, there’s very little left to put toward a surgery like this. <div>Hello, I decided to come here to ask for help for my son, Martin. Martin is a sweet, silly six-month-old of fraternal boy-girl twins. He was born breech through C-section at 35 weeks premature, which has led to his being diagnosed with moderate to severe plagiocephaly, which means his head is flattened and asymmetrical on the right side. <strong>He is in need of a helmet to correct it</strong>, but we are a single-income household so I can stay at home to take care of him and his sister instead of paying outrageous childcare prices. <strong>His father is our sole provider, working seven days a week, and we still barely make enough for bills.</strong> Insurance won’t pay for the helmet because they view it as cosmetic since he didn’t need cranial surgery. The funds will be going directly to the providers for his fitting, adjustments and follow up appointments.

<div>Happy New Year, friends! Let’s start 2025 by helping one of our beloved brothers and friends. As many of you know, <strong>Aaron had a rough 2024, spending months in the hospital and ending the year with a life-saving liver transplant.</strong> Though Aaron is incredibly thankful for the liver, the stress and damage to his kidneys has been too much. Unfortunately, he is now in renal failure. Therefore, he’ll be starting 2025 again with multiple visits to Vanderbilt for an upcoming kidney transplant.

<div>Below is a timeline of Aaron’s medical events:

<div>Before May of 2023, liver issues were being addressed by medication.

</div>

<div>May 2023 - Liver disease advanced to gathering of fluid in abdomen (ascites).

</div>

<div>Summer 2023 - Diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver.

</div>

<div>Jan 2024 - First TIPS procedure (a stent in his liver).

</div>

<div>April 2024 - Hospitalized because of stenosis in the stent. TIPS revised. Kidneys injured as a result of malfunction of TIPS.

</div>

<div>July 2024 - Cellulitis resulting in sepsis. Kidneys injured further as a result of sepsis.

</div>

<div>August 27, 2024 - Hospitalized for hepatic encephalopathy secondary pneumonitis. Unable to protect his airway and vented. Went into renal failure. MELD score advanced to upper 30s (around 37-38) and in MICU for several weeks. Had heart catheter as part of evaluation for transplant after a potential blockage was observed. Arterial bleed occurred at the entry site for the catheter resulting in emergency surgery. Received liver transplant on September 22. Renal function improved slightly after transplant.

<div>Currently doing dialysis 3x week, with severely impacted overall kidney function. He will be turning to Vanderbilt to begin the kidney transplant process.
