<div>Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at about 8:20 pm the Pierite family was involved in a life threatening car accident in Arlington, Texas. The accident was caused when an aggressive, drunk driver , Tyler Hampton, hit the back passenger side tire of their Toyota Tundra causing the truck to hit and go over a guardrail, hit a concrete steel sign structure, then land on its side. In the vehicle was daddy/husband Joshua Pierite, 26, who suffered severe injuries including a collapsed lung, broken ribs and a badly broken leg that required surgery. Mommy/wife Brooklyn, 22, suffered a partially collapsed lung, broken ribs and multiple lacerations that required stitches. Beautiful, sweet, Aubrey, 4, suffered only minor injuries thanks to God and is doing well. Unfortunately, 2 year old, Mi’Lania Skye Pierite had to be med-flighted to the hospital with life threatening injuries and two days later on Thursday, December 23rd at about 9pm, she passed away. Because her body was secured by her car seat, the jolt from the head on collision caused her to suffer from severe spinal cord damage at her neck. This caused her brain to go without oxygen for longer than her little body could stand. She fought as hard and for as long as she could. She was a kind and beautiful toddler. Full of life and known among family as a little actress/singer.  She loved her mommy, big sister and was the definition of a true daddies girl. As you can imagine finances will be a huge burden in this challenging time. From memorial cost for Lani, to Josh being unable to walk for a minimum of 6 months, financial contributions will be vital for this young family as Josh is the primary source of income. Medical bills are already at $500,000. The bills will continue to come so please contribute as much as you can to help this family.

<p>I started radiation a few days later than originally planned to allow MD Anderson’s pathologist read the slides from my biopsy that was done in May. Long story short, I have been diagnosed with glioblastoma. If you don’t know, glioblastoma is the most aggressive brain cancers out there. This is a very scary situation to be in.

<p>Have you ever thought about how much you love life and your family? You my not have it all, but you wouldn't trade anything about your life for anything... wonderful friends, family, job, house, etc. Then one day, in one moment, everything changes in you realize you could lose it in the blink of an eye.

<p>You would think that moment was in 2016-2017 when I went into kidney failure and ultimately a kidney transplant at the end of 2017. Little did I know, that journey was to prepare me for the moment that happened on Mother’s Day weekend, Saturday May 8, 2021, when I woke up having a seizure.

<p>I'm used to strange things happening and random ER visits. So Geoff took Arianna to her soccer game and my mom took me to the ER. This turned into a four-night stay at one of the most expensive places in Dallas that included around-the-clock care, millions of dollars worth of equipment to run tests, and countless nurses, doctors, and specialists to help me in this small moment in time.

<p>One of the tests included an MRI that showed a mass in my brain. Then, on Tuesday, May 11th, a neurosurgeon conducted a brain biopsy that ultimately confirmed a diffuse inoperable tumor identified as a Astrocytoma grade II. Medical science is so advanced they can tell more about cancer by running additional tests. So they submitted my brain tissue to Mayo Clinic Labs to determine if the tumor was IDH mutant or wild-type. After a two-week wait, the test came back inconclusive. I submitted saliva to be evaluated with the tissue for further testing. After another two-week wait, the test showed that I had Astrocytoma IDH-wild-type, with molecular features of glioblastoma.

<p>During this four-week waiting period for the test to come back, I met with multiple neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologist, and radiation oncologists from 3 different hospitals (Baylor-Dallas, UT Southwestern, and MD Anderson Houston). After much discussion with family, friends, and doctors, we determined it was best to receive treatment at MD Anderson-Houston.

<p>So, my friends, this is where we are at. I am scheduled to receive radiation from July 6th - August 16th. Radiation is 5-days a week M-F. Since I had a seizure, Texas law doesn't allow me to drive for 3 months (August) so my mom or Geoff will be home with Arianna during the week and the other person will be with me in Houston. I hope to come home on the weekends to spend time with Arianna.

<p>Many people have asked how they can help. I'm very fortunate that my dear neighbors/friends have a place I can stay in Houston for July. So, where we can accept help is time or money to help with lawn care, house cleaning, gas, meals/food/groceries for who is home with Arianna during the week and for me and Geoff/my mom in Houston, and help with a hotel for 2 weeks in August.

This fund is being set up for the care and education of Bryan “Dylan” Baker (21 months), the son of Bryan Donley Baker.  The most important person in Bryan’s life was his son Dylan.  The happiest day of his life was the day Dylan was born.  

Bryan, 45, passed away on Friday June 26, 2020.  Bryan is now in Heaven.  He trusted in Jesus Christ as his personal savior as a young boy and he is now reunited with his Dad, Buzz who passed away in 1989.  

Bryan loved all things out doors... trucks, boats, hunting, skiing.  Fast cars and NASCAR was his passion.  He was an avid fan of the Texas Tech Raiders and a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys.  On his boat and being on the lake was where he had the most fun.  He found much needed peace and tranquility there.  

Bryan had so many wonderful friends he loved and cherished.  Each one of them could share story after story of how special Bryan was to them individually.  He leaves a hole the size of Texas in all of our hearts.  He will be missed by so many who knew and loved him.  

Bryan is survived by Dr.Joye Baker of Dallas; his son, Bryan Dylan Baker of Frisco; the mother of his son and his girlfriend, Juli Einsohn of Frisco; his sister, Dena R. Baker of Largo,FL; his brother, Tim Baker wife Jennifer, nephews Trevan and Caden Baker of Crested Butte, CO.  Uncle, Art Baker wife Jo of Amarillo, TX; Uncle, Tom Buell wife Ruth of Pasco, WA; Uncle, Chuck Buell wife Betty of Phoenix, AZ; Along with numerous cousins throughout the country. He leaves behind his loved companion and most loyal friend, Cooper, his rescue dog! He took Cooper everywhere, he loved that dog and now will be Dylan’s best friend.  He will protect the other love of Bryan’s life.

Bryan Donley Baker Memorial Fund

I work in the biology department at a local college.  Microbiology, in particular, has been our most difficult class to transition to an online format.  With it being a higher-level biology course, the students enrolled typically know well what they’re doing, especially at this point in the semester.  Unfortunately, the online transition has proved difficult and frustrating for many.  The one bright side of this, however, is that I’m now more personally acquainted with many of the students than I was before, including Alexis.  <br /><br />Although I’d known Alexis from our previous work together on campus, it’s been our subsequent interactions online, since sheltering in place began, that has enabled me to know her well.  I already knew her to be an incredibly smart young woman and a very hard-working student, as well as an active peer leader.  But it wasn’t until recently that I was also able to see just how kind and compassionate she is.  A number of students in the class have been overwhelmed, sometimes to an emotional degree, and I’ve found it was Alexis giving them the support they needed, both academically and in terms of morale, to get them back on track.  Her kind and generous spirit has proven invaluable to the class as a whole.<br /><br />As well, there’s the goal that Alexis and I share: we both plan to go to nursing school to pursue getting our RN.  Only a few weeks ago, we happened to be in the same interview group and sadly, at that time, I learned through one of her responses that her mother is battling cancer.  The day we got the news that we’d both been accepted into the nursing program started with excitement, but, for Alexis, it quickly became overwhelming because of the <a href="https://www.brookhavencollege.edu/cd/credit/nursing/bhc/pages/estimated-expenses.aspx?DCCCD_College=BHC" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">estimated expenses</a>, which total around $7700 .  Unfortunately, due to Coronavirus, Alexis’ hours at work were cut drastically a few weeks ago, to the point that she’ll no longer be able to save and pay for school, as she had planned.  Being the first one in her family to go to college, she reached out to me to ask if I knew of any resources for scholarships.  Sadly I haven’t come across anything yet with deadlines that will work with her almost immediate needs, so thought I’d try GoFundMe.  <br /><br />Alexis is a very independent young lady, having been totally self-sufficient since she was 18.  Knowing her as a student, she is laser-focused and will not let anything stand in her way until she’s a Registered Nurse!  She’s kind, compassionate, and very much the type of person who is more comfortable helping other people than being helped herself.  <br /><br />Maybe it’s that I feel so many of us have taken the ability to pay for tuition for granted (I know I did at that age); maybe it’s that nurses are literally dying today on the frontlines of a pandemic and yet, here is Alexis still trying to run into the burning building, so to speak; maybe it’s imagining my little girl being 25 and in this situation, feeling so helpless, I’m not sure; but, her story is so compelling and so humbling to me and I simply can't stop thinking about it.<br /><br />I’ve never done a GoFundMe for someone, but she's so very deserving.  It would be amazing if my friends or those in my community  would pass this onto their friends, and then maybe someday soon I could tell Alexis she doesn't have to worry about the expenses.
