<div>As a young adult, Dora Moono Nyambe visited the village of Mapapa in Zambia, South Africa, and noticed a need for development. Children were often without a consistent source of nutrition, faced with abuse, and forced into child marriages. With a vision for change and adopted children of her own, she made a commitment to move to the village &amp; start a school that would offer lessons, food, safety, and security. She now fosters 150 children and has adopted 13. Over 500 children depend on the school she's started to eat each day, and to have a space that allows them to safely learn and play. Once just a mud hut, Dora's school has developed into multiple classrooms, a large dining hall, and dorms for children seeking refuge.

<div>There are common misconceptions about what it takes to sustain an effort like Footprints of Hope that I learned by reading <em>Under a Zambian Tree, </em>a book written about Dora's life and efforts. Though they rely on donations through GoFundMe, Africa doesn't recognize this as a valid method of fund collection, meaning that a third party must run the page, exchange the currency, and then transfer it to Dora. Besides the process being tedious and time-consuming, it also comes with fees. This means that the amount Dora receives is much less than what is given. Because Zambian law can be restrictive, she avoids seeking funding or partnerships so that she can continue to run Footprints of Hope in her own way- in the way that has kept these children healthy and protected. This means hundreds of mouths to feed and no government funding.

<div>Besides donating to the cause, I thought it may be nice to round up some clothing and toys in good condition and ship them to Mapapa. I've communicated with Dora via e-mail, and she explained to me that shipping may be costly (and to make sure the number wasn't unmanageable) but that they have limited access to materials and greatly appreciate anything we can send. I was interested before, but am set on it now. She also included that the kids' favorite is gummy bears/candy, which they can't get in Zambia. Excuse me while I figure out how to ship 10,000 gummy bears to South Africa.

Help me and the 11 members of my family to save our lives

<div>My name is Taeryn, I'm 23years old and I am taking expired Insulin.
</div>
<div>My pancreas stopped working when I was 5years old on Valentine's Day of 2006 (2/14/06). No one in my Family, besides my Bio Dad's Brother had Type 1 Diabetes. Other than him, he was the ONLY one to be known for being Type 1 Diabetic in the Family. Growing up, my Sister and I were told that it would skip our generation and more than likely go to our kids.
</div>
<div>It didn't though, it got me instead.
</div>
<div>Throughout my kid-teenage years, I was in and out of hospitals. Diabetic-Keytone-Acidosis (DKA), uncontrollable high or low blood sugars, mentalhealth, severe Flu, and something more life-threatening.. At the age of 15, I decided to attempt suicide. In my attempt, I stopped taking BOTH Insulins that I was taking at the time (Novolog &amp; Lantus) and lasted it out for 2 1/2 - 3weeks. My Mom called an Ambulance for me from work, due to me screaming in pain and being extremely dehydrated, ghost pale, and my lips turning blue/purple. Long story short, I was rushed to the Hospital and in a Coma for 4 1/2 days. Doctors told my mom, I had no brain activity, but that did not stop her. My Mom stayed by my side, fed me meals throughout the day, even though I was not responsive. She'd help me chew my food and made sure it went down gently with some juice.
</div>
<div>Still shocking to me to this day.. I woke up that night. Breathing, crying, but also happy and heartbroken. Heartbroken to see my Mom in tears, for her to know that she witnessed me attempt, but BEYOND happy that I didn't leave her.
</div>
<div>Since that attempt, Life was still a rollercoaster for myself. I went through rough periods of time, deep depressive states, beat myself down, but overall- pushed through it and showed up.
</div>
<div>I've been here for 23years, but I've been fighting to be alive for 18years. Type 1 Diabetes, is NOT something I asked for. It's not a challenge or obstacle I can overcome in Life, like other things.
</div>
<div>BUT, it is something I CAN manage.
</div>
<div>Never in the years of being Type 1 Diabetic, did I ever think I'd have to ask for help with Insulin, because I can't get what I need from the Healthcare System. I've tried going to Walmart, but their charging me $180 for just one of the pens (Vial for $90). I've applied to Medicade, Medicare, almost all Insurances in Georiga. They have replied back everytime with,

<div>It is unimaginably hard to say that we have lost everything, it's like a repeated nightmare we are living everyday. We have lost our beautiful, quiet life and our warm, safe home. Our dreams of a bright and promising future have been shattered. My tragic story began at the beginning of the war when the Israeli army demanded all Gaza citizens living in the north and middle of Gaza to evacuate. The area where my family and I used to live is where our beautiful home was located. We saved each penny to establish our dreams home to avoid living in a rent which is considered costly nowadays and we have been drown into debts to buy our home by instalment payments, unfortunately still many payments are not paid yet nearly 30,000$, where the Israeli soldiers destroyed it and it became uninhabitable later.

<div>The army asked us to move and evacuate the place and move a long distance on foot to the southern regions, we were forced to leave our home and go and take shelter in the UN shelter centers inside the city nearby. It was only a few days before the Israeli army forces invaded the UN shelter center in which we were staying and the army forced me to evacuate. I had to flee to the southern regions alone, along with men who were with me.

We have neither clean water nor sufficient food, and disease is rampant due to a lack of critical medical supplies.

I cannot reach it and take pictures of the rubble; it is because of the presence of tanks and Ahandtalal soldiers in the area where I live.

After months of pleas from Canadians with extended family members in the war zone, Immigration Canadian Minister Marc Miller announced the new temporary visa program for people in the Gaza Strip who have Canadian relatives. I want to take my family to Canada and start fresh.

UPDATE: we just got Edward home from
his MRI. He is loopy but the doctors said he did well. They found a tumor on his brain, as suspected. Unfortunately, the place it’s in is inoperable and so his treatment will consist of radiation. We were informed that the tumor is large but the type of tumor typically responds very well to radiation and is benign. He will get one large radiation treatment and the TX plan will have follow ups to monitor the shrinking of the tumor. The vets, and our, hope is to extend his life -typical of three more years after radiation- and reduce his neurological symptoms. I understand people have different views on things like radiation with pets. We want to let everyone know we are doing everything we can to improve his quality of life based on the prognosis of the vet. We asked that you do not share criticism with our decision to continue to treat him. Please know his happiness and health is our priority and when we need to consider another route to ease his suffering, we will. In the mean time, there’s hope and we will continue to fight for him as long as he fights. We have almost everything for his radiation, but we’re a little short. Doctors suspect he has maybe a couple months without radiation and so we are eager to get him in ASAP. I know so many of you have donated and shared.
