<div>I am raising funds for <strong>Harmanpreet Singh</strong>. He was born on 09/11/2000 and was with us until 05/07/2025. He passed away around 7:30 am at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, California.

<div>He was taken to the hospital in an ambulance from his work (liquor store) the night before around 10:00 pm while he was getting ready to end his shift. Unfortunately, he had a sudden cardiac arrest. A customer entered the store, found him on the floor, called 911, and tried to help him, but he didn’t respond. He was not breathing at all. After a few minutes, law enforcement and the ambulance arrived and took him to Mercy General Hospital, where he started to breathe again, but that was just for a few seconds. They took him to the ICU, where he stayed for almost 7 hours, but his body filled with blood. Doctors tried to pump the blood out, but he didn’t make it. Blood went into his lungs, and <strong>we lost our young Harman at a very young age!</strong>

<div>He came to us in 2023. He belongs to a village, Bahadargarh Dalania, Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab.

<div>Back home, he has 3 sisters, 1 older brother, and Mom and Dad. They took out loans and sold whatever they had to get their son to the USA for a better life and future. They sent him here with so many expectations, but now they’ve lost it all. He was the only one working and helping his family with everything, but now they are stuck with this big loss of a young kid who is never coming back. So, <strong>we are trying to help his family as much as we all can.</strong>

<div>"Mothers have a central role in the healthcare of their families. This role starts with the first pregnancy and eventually translates to the entire family. Not only do they control the diet of the household. Their instinct to prevent her child from getting sick makes them the primary provider of preventive healthcare, first for the baby, then for the entire family. Our goal #2 is therefore to strengthen them by educating them effectively. We aim to equip them with all the “know how” they need to excel in this role.

Help the mothers of Culion 

In light of COVID19 and shelter-in-place, the employees at Nexus Dining and Peet’s Coffee remain at home without work. <strong>Starting April 1st, they will indefinitely no longer be paid.</strong><br /><br />As students who frequent these places, we want to help. We seek to do this by providing support for 24 employees for the next 5 weeks while they are unable to work. To do so and account for the 2.9% + $0.30 transaction fee collected by GoFundMe, this is a total of $125K or $25K/week. <strong>Even raising $25K will allow us to immediately provide at least 1 week of financial assistance to all employees. </strong><br /><br />Why donate ?<br />Nexus Dining &amp; Peet’s Coffee staff have tirelessly worked to support us during our deadlines and times-of-need. Since they cannot work on campus during the coming month, now is the time for us to do our part and help support them in part through this fundraiser. <br /><br />How much should I donate ?<br /><strong>The staff at Nexus Dining and Peet’s Coffee serve over 2000 of us each day!</strong> Consider how much of an impact we could make if we each donated what we typically spend on lunch or coffee in a month -- like $40 for 8 lattes or $100 for 10 meals.<br /><br />How will you distribute the funds ? <br />We have contacted all employees and asked them to provide their preferred payment method (Venmo, Paypal, or check). Each week, we will withdraw what has been fundraised and distribute the money evenly among all employees via their preferred method. <br /><br />[Added on April 9, 2020 for clarity] Specifically, Mira Moufarrej will be responsible for withdrawing the funds to her personal account and then distributing them among all employees as specified above. Upon withdrawal/distribution, we will post a timely update specifying the total withdrawn and amount distributed to each staff member.<br /><br />What will you do with additional funds ?<br />Any additional funds raised will go first to employees of other dining facilities on campus that are also in need of financial support.
