And only going into her sophomore year for High school.

<div>For those of you who may not know, I'm going on my second mission trip to the Rio Grande Valley this summer in Texas to build homes for widows and orphans.

<div>In August, through this mission trip, I'll be serving the local community by volunteering with my church team and helping the Buckner ministries serve vulnerable children and families with resources and support to protect children, strengthen families and transform generations.

</div>

<div>We, as a team, get to help the children and their families by supporting them. We can also pour love into them and be God's hands and feet. These mission trips help put into perspective what we need to focus on. They also help spread the message of compassion globally.

Support Mission Trip to Help Widows and Orphans

<div>On July 19, 2025, 22 year old Chloe was out celebrating her college graduation with friends in downtown Milwaukee, a night that should have been filled with joy and accomplishment. Instead, it turned tragic when a driver recklessly crashed through barricades that were meant to protect pedestrians on Water Street, struck Chloe and another young woman as they crossed the street.

<div>The impact was violent. Chloe was left seriously injured in the road. A local mother rushed from her car and stayed by Chloe’s side until EMTs arrived, offering comfort through unimaginable pain.
</div>

<div>Chloe remains hospitalized and is facing a long road to recovery, physically, emotionally and financially. Her life has been turned upside down by a moment of senseless, preventable harm. She’s unable to return to work or daily life for the foreseeable future and will need extended support as she begins healing.

<div>We love Chloe deeply. She’s a kind, vibrant and beautiful person. The kind of person who lights up every room she walks into. She didn’t deserve this. And now, as she begins the long journey toward healing, we have to show up for her the way she’s always shown up for others.

It was a pain no parent should ever experience, yet Lori and Chris carried that grief with unimaginable strength and grace.

<div>In the years that followed, our prayers were answered when Lori and Chris welcomed their triplets — Ellie, Ashley, and Jake — now thriving high school seniors. Their birth brought light to a dark time and reminded us all of hope, resilience, and the power of love.

<div>For a while, it seemed they had found the "Happily ever after" they so deserved.

<div>But today, this family faces a new and deeply painful chapter.

<div>Lori, who is 48 yrs old, was recently taken to the ER after experiencing troubling symptoms. There, she received a devastating diagnosis: Stage IV Glioblastoma, an aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer. Emergency surgery removed 80% of the tumor. The remaining tumor is located behind her right eye — an area too delicate for full removal.

<div>Since the surgery, Lori has lost vision in one eye and motor control. There is hope that some motor function will return with therapy, but the road ahead is steep and uncertain. As if that weren’t enough, doctors also discovered a separate mass in her breast — unrelated to the brain cancer — that may require a double mastectomy.

<div>Lori will soon begin an intense regimen of chemotherapy and radiation, along with physical therapy and continuous care at home. While she fights for her life, Chris is trying to manage his full-time job, care for Lori, and support their three teenagers — all while holding together a home that has already weathered more loss than most can imagine.

On June 2, 2025, my wife Amber was admitted to the ER following a series of severe strokes due to a rare condition called Reversible Cerebral Vasoconstriction Syndrome (RCVS), triggered by long-term health challenges, leaving her in critical condition for an entire month. This sudden medical crisis has left her with severe and debilitating brain damage, including profound aphasia and apraxia, making it challenging for her to speak or care for herself.

<div>As she and Chloe crossed a street clearly closed off to vehicles with barricades, a reckless driver ignored every warning and crashed through—striking Sam and changing her life in an instant.

</div>

<div>Sam was knocked unconscious, bleeding, and hardly responsive when EMTs arrived. She was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries:

<div>    •    Multiple missing teeth

</div>

<div>    •    A broken nose

</div>

<div>    •    Deep skin lacerations requiring 16 stitches

</div>

<div>    •    Significant trauma to her hand, including several broken bones

</div>

<div>Sam is a 22-year-old daughter, sister, granddaughter, and soon-to-be grad student now faces a long, painful recovery—physically, emotionally, and financially. She’ll undergo months of reconstructive dental work (implants may take 4–6 months), hand therapy, and countless doctor and specialists visits. Eating is currently limited to soft foods and liquids. Her family and boyfriend has taken time off work to care for her, and the road ahead is overwhelming.

<div>But through it all, Sam remains strong. Her sweet nature, gentle spirit, and radiant smile—one we hope to restore—continue to inspire all who know her. She didn’t deserve this. No one does.

<div>This is my son Dawson. He is 18 months old and was just diagnosed with high risk neuroblastoma. He has a tumor on top of his left kidney that has spread to his hips and legs. We are looking to have his care moved to MSK in New York. They specialize in treating neuroblastoma and offer less aggressive chemotherapy and radiation. Which leads to less long term side effects. Unfortunately our insurance will not cover any treatment out of state. Our family will be relocating to New York for at least 4 months while he under goes treatment. My wife is a stay a home mom and I will have to take unpaid leave for work. This money will allow us to give our son the best treatment possible while keeping our family together during this very difficult and emotional time.  We greatly appreciate any donations.

<div>On Monday night, Tori was involved in a devastating car accident at 540A and Crews Lake Rd. She was ejected from her vehicle and rushed to the ICU with severe trauma.

<div>Significant brain and brain stem trauma
</div>
<div>A craniectomy (removal of part of the skull) to relieve pressure and stop internal bleeding. Fractures to her face, shoulder blade, and elbow. A possible fracture to the C1 vertebrae and injury to neck ligaments. Road rash across her body. Injuries to her spleen and possibly the optic nerve. She remains intubated and heavily sedated.

<div>Doctors have told us it could be 4–5 months before they can even begin the process of replacing the portion of her skull. It will likely be that long—or longer—before we understand the full extent of her injuries and long-term prognosis.

<div>In those critical first moments, God placed angels at the scene—bystanders who stayed with Tori, comforted her, prayed over her, and administered life-saving first aid. <div>We are a team of student researchers at UC Davis affiliated with Data Driven Change (D3C), a student-led social justice organization. Over the last year, we have been working with the cooperative guidance of feminist STS researchers at UC Davis to conduct research into socio-economic climate data and models. <strong>We’ve identified a number of gaps in leading models used by the UN, including the gaps listed above.</strong>

<div>In mid-July, thanks to the generosity of donations, we were able to present our research at <strong>Scenarios Forum,</strong> a leading gathering for climate data scientists. This allowed us to make suggestions to leading climate data models used by the UN and world leaders to set agendas at climate policy meetings before they got "locked in" until the early 2030s. This gathering happened in Leeds, UK, and we were able to send one student researcher, Miguel Rezapour, who presented the team's research as part of the gathering. The rest of the team was able to join as online delegates and participate in the gathering via Zoom. The graduate student Harlin/Hayley also joined as a chaperone and presented a poster. This work could not have happened without the generosity of donors to this campaign! These students' work is no "in process" and will be considered for inclusion in the next generation of leading climate projection tools used by world leaders.

<div>We are also hoping for the team to be able to participate in another gathering that will take place in early September, the gathering of <strong>The Society for the Social Studies of Science (4S)</strong>. This is a leading gathering for social scientists who study and analyze scientific practices and protocols. Being part of this gathering will allow these student researchers to draw attention to the process itself of contributing to leading climate models, with an eye to the question: Is the current way of configuring these climate assessment tools (which ultimately inform policy) accessible? <strong>This gathering will be taking place in Seattle in early September, and we hope to send as many of our team members as possible to share their research as part of this gathering.</strong>

<div>Unfortunately, we have run into a major snag:

<div>Amidst the chaos wrought by the present administration upon university funding (aka the "DOGE cuts"), we have not been able to obtain enough institutional funding to attend these gatherings. This is why we are having to turn to crowd funding for this important and timely research.

<div>As the impacts of anthropogenic climate change become ever more eminent, we believe it is vital for youth voices to be heard as part of the process of making climate models and climate assessment tools. Youths and young adults have the most at stake: It is our futures on the line. Shouldn't we have a seat at the table? These models will shape policy agendas around the world during these next few years that shape our future, and it is critical that our voices be heard.

The cost for the two in-person attendees is $2,883 per person, while virtual attendees is $100. The breakdown is as follows: Transportation $1,500, lodging &amp; meals $975, in-person conference tickets $319, conference banquet ticket $89. Plus $700 to ensure that everyone else on the team can attend the gathering virtually.

<div>"A growing body of research shows that including young people in decision-making spaces improves the quality of decisions made. In this regard, how might scenarios and related modeling efforts benefit from the inclusion of more young adults, interns, and undergraduate researchers? In this presentation, two teams of interns from Data Driven Change (D3C), a student-led data justice organization at UC Davis, will share their research into novel indicators, scenarios analysis, and frameworks for emerging IAMs. This work has emerged through collaborative efforts with multiple laboratories and research institutions on the UC Davis campus, including the Feminist Research Institute (FRI), ModLab: An Emerging Media Laboratory at UC Davis, and Galt Lab: Food Systems and Sustainability Lab. In this presentation, we will showcase our work, which includes research into case studies that may inform future indicators. This includes our work exploring the relationship between regimes of forced sterilization of Indigenous people in the Brazilian and Peruvian Amazon and the uptick of wildfires in the region a generation later. We will also share our work exploring factors that may contribute to emissions accelerations during mass casualty events, using COVID-19 emissions patterns as a case study. We ask if this research may underpin new metrics, similar to those found in the SSP Extensions Explorer, that better incorporate issues that pertain to social justice and public health into Scenarios. We will also share our analytical work of legacy indicators and extensions of the SSPs, alongside frameworks for alternative indicators, scenarios, and IAMs. We will also discuss our provisional scenarios planning work with BasedMIP, a novel approach to bringing social factors into climate projects that is in development by researchers with the UC Davis ModLab. In this approach, users are encouraged to create their own scenarios, allowing users to engage with scenarios data through a “learning through making” approach. We offer our analysis of the pros and cons of this approach. Additionally, this presentation both explores and demonstrates the importance of age diversity in our efforts to develop scenarios and climate projections. As global temperatures continue to rise, it is the youngest people who will suffer the worst impacts of climate change. Don’t we deserve a seat at the table in the spaces of climate assessment and deliberation since it is our futures at stake? With this presentation, we will very much demonstrate how the impact of young adult researchers may make all the difference as we face the existential challenge of climate change."

2025 Flood Relief Fund

I love him, but he apparently has a death wish.

My Mission: Build a Better World

<div>Berkley is a joyful, spirited 3-year-old who loves dance, playing at the ballpark with her siblings, and lighting up every room with her contagious smile. But in an instant, her life was turned upside down.

<div>What began as a lingering fever quickly spiraled into a medical crisis. After weeks of uncertainty, testing, and multiple hospital transfers, Berkley was diagnosed with HLH (Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis) — a rare and life-threatening immune disorder that causes the body to attack itself.

<div>She was admitted to the hospital on Memorial Day and spent 50 long days inpatient at St. Jude. After enduring countless procedures, sedation, central lines, blood transfusions, and even bowel surgery, Berkley began making miraculous progress. She was learning to walk again, smiling, interacting, and slowly returning to herself. Her family was just two days away from being discharged to St. Jude’s outpatient apartments, where they would finally be reunited as a family of five.

<div>But just days before discharge, everything changed again.

<div>Berkley’s HLH suddenly flared, and the progress they had fought so hard for began to unravel. She is now intubated, sedated, and fighting for her life once again.

<div>St. Jude researchers are collaborating with specialists across the United States, urgently working to determine what’s causing her HLH to resurface.

</div>

<div>They believe in miracles because of our God, Berkley’s strength, in answered prayers, and in the love that surrounds her.
