After a year and a half of navigating the immigration court system, Teresa was detained at a scheduled check-in on February 17, 2026. She was quickly moved to a detention center in Louisiana, far from Yesica and from her partner, Vicente. Even as Yesica reeled from the sudden loss of her mother, the government initiated deportation proceedings against her as well, placing the family in greater jeopardy. Vicente and Yesica are struggling to cope without Teresa, and she is suffering from the separation from her family and harsh conditions in detention. Vicente is working hard to provide for their family in Teresa’s absence, as well as to send her money so she can call from the detention center and hear her daughter’s voice. But the extra costs and missing income have added up. To make matters worse, the family hired a lawyer who took thousands of dollars in fees, supposedly to obtain and pay a bond that would free Teresa from detention – but the bond never existed, Teresa was not released as promised, and the “lawyer” absconded with the family’s money. Vicente must now rely on this community to help him care for Yesica as she faces new risks and support Teresa in detention. While Rosa was eventually released and returned home to her boys, her husband was deported. Now, Rosa is the sole provider and anchor for her family. She works laboriously cleaning houses to make ends meet, but her single income simply is not enough to cover the rising costs of rent, groceries, and necessities like clothes and shoes for her growing sons. The pressure on Rosa is heavy. With her own immigration hearing on the horizon, she lives with the constant fear of being separated from her children again. She needs to secure legal representation to try to stay with her boys and ensure they can grow into the independent men their older brothers have become. Edgar did everything right. He came to the U.S. seeking assylum and did what he was told to do only to be taken from his family in early February as he went to his Immigration appointment and never walked back out. They also took his 18 year old daughter’s Work Permit. He is now being held in a Virginia detention facility. He has a hearing March 9th. His family needs legal representation. His daughter Fernanda is 18 and a senior in High School. She is an excellent student. She wants what all kids do. She wants to go to college, work and get her driver’s license. His son Eduardo is 16 and a High School Junior. He is having a hard time because he is close to his father. Fernanda worries about her brother and tries to help him. These kids lost their sole parent. They are living with family and no longer have their father’s income to help with bills the relatives are incurring. The costs are mounting up. ICE stopped him, and in fear, he ran door to door begging for help, but no one opened their door. Juan was apprehended by ICE, struck in the neck, and thrown to the ground. Juan was injured, denied medical and basic care in detention, lost 20 pounds in 12 days, and was moved between detention centers across multiple states with almost no contact with his family. By late February, he was deported to El Salvador. Later, eyewitness videos of ICE beating Juan and taking him away were sent to his daughters—images that have left them deeply shaken and traumatized. Juan has always been a loving, present father with a strong bond with his two daughters. He also helped support them financially, and his sudden disappearance has left his daughters and family emotionally shattered and without the stability he provided.
