On Sundays—his day off—we enjoyed simple yet precious family moments: going to the park, eating out (Chick-fil-A is Hugo’s favorite), or visiting the zoo. Now, Gamaliel is being held in detention miles away due to immigration proceedings, with no idea when he will be able to return to us. His absence has not only created a heavy financial burden—covering rent, food, and basic necessities—but has also deeply impacted our children's emotional and psychological stability. Hugo was recently diagnosed with autism. Because of his condition, he needs predictability, clear routines, and the constant reassurance of having his parents nearby. Furthermore, he is starting kindergarten at a new school, which brings its own set of new challenges. Their efforts to apply for asylum stalled due to COVID policies, but they are seeking asylum once again to keep Jesus out of danger.
