After parking his car, but before he could even step outside, four vehicles surrounded him. He was detained by ICE and taken away. That was the last time his family saw him. Since coming to the United States, Miguel has worked in construction to provide for his wife and their four children. He is the kind of father who worked long days so his children could have a better future. He was the family's only source of income, but more importantly, he is a loving husband and a devoted father whose children adore him. Their oldest children, ages 15 and 13, love soccer. Like many teenagers, they dream about the future, but now those dreams are overshadowed by fear and uncertainty. Their younger children are only 4 years old and 1 year old. The two youngest are U.S. citizens and are too young to understand why their father suddenly disappeared from their lives. Today, Catalina is facing every parent's nightmare. She is caring for her four children completely on her own, with no income and no way to afford the legal representation her family desperately needs. She has reached out to attorneys, but every estimate has been far beyond what she can pay. Every day she worries about keeping food on the table, paying the bills, and giving her children hope while wondering what the future holds. Josue, who provided for his family by painting apartments, was arrested at midmorning on July 13th at the Hyattsville Home Depot when he went to pick up paint for his employer. He was born in El Salvador as a vicious civil war was coming to an end. He and wife Lourdes came to the United States in 2016 seeking peace and opportunity. Josue worked as much as possible with Sunday as their only real family time -- time to go to church and take the kids to the park. Now Lourdes, who was a stay-at-home mom to two young boys and sometimes food truck cook, is trying to pay a mountain of bills on her own. Heart Broken A talented kitchen and bath remodeler, Hugo was days away from wrapping up a project when ICE officers grabbed him from his work van and incarcerated him in Michigan. His wife, Mirsa, and young son, Bryan, are heartbroken and dearly missing him. What was supposed to be a summer full of soccer games, watching movies together and enjoying Mirsa’s cooking, has turned to a struggle to overcome the separation and make ends meet. Mirsa works but Hugo, shown in the photo holding his step granddaughter, was the main provider. Let's help bring Saray back to her family. Just a few days ago, Luis, Saray, and their two young children were enjoying a family trip to the beach to celebrate the start of summer. It was one of those simple but precious moments families cherish. They never imagined that only days later, their lives would be turned upside down. On the morning of July 8, Saray left for work as she did every day. She works for a cleaning company, but due to a GPS error, she was directed to the entrance of a restricted military area instead of the building where she was assigned to work. Military law enforcement officers detained her for approximately three hours. They told her they would take her back to a gas station outside the base, but instead, they transferred her to ICE custody. Saray says she was treated "like a criminal." She was not allowed to contact Luis until 1:00 a.m. the following morning. During those long hours, Luis had no idea where his wife was. He searched frantically, fearing that something terrible had happened to her. Today, Saray is being held at an immigration detention center in Louisiana while Luis is left to care for their two children on his own and keep their family afloat. The couple was married last fall and had been looking forward to celebrating their first wedding anniversary in just a few months. Instead, they are now living with uncertainty and fear as Saray faces deportation to El Salvador, despite having been granted protection under the Convention Against Torture (CAT). In addition to the emotional toll of this separation, the family is facing overwhelming financial hardship. Luis is working with an attorney to fight for Saray's case, but the legal expenses continue to grow. At the same time, he is solely responsible for paying rent, groceries, transportation, utilities, and all of the family's everyday expenses. He works as many hours as he can, but his schedule varies, making it difficult to keep up with their financial needs. Their 8-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter are doing their best to carry on with their daily routines. They love swimming at the community pool, caring for the pet turtle they rescued from the street, and playing with their upstairs neighbors. But nothing can replace the presence of their mom. Every day, they ask when she will be coming home. Today, Luis and his children need their community's support more than ever.
