Help support a young family wondering where their papi went. While parked in his work van, Edvin was detained, and in less than a week, deported to Guatemala. Edvin’s two young daughters (ages seven and three) are struggling to understand why their dad didn't return from work. And his wife, Maria, is now having to support the three of them on her own as Edvin was the primary provider. With the sudden disappearance of her dad, the oldest daughter is having difficulty finishing her first year of elementary school. Maria is caring for her youngest daughter and is only able to work part-time. To lighten her burden, Maria is asking for assistance with rent and other expenses as she figures out next steps for her and her daughters without their dad. >En Español><< ¡Extrañan a su papá! On June 5, a tragedy turned into a nightmare for a loving family. While driving on the Baltimore–Washington Parkway, Samuel’s car was struck by another vehicle. Instead of receiving support after the crash, U.S. Park Police turned him over to ICE, and he was taken into detention. Samuel was quickly moved to a detention facility in Texas and despite having protection from removal back to his home country, he is being threatened with third country deportation to Mexico. A Family Suddenly Torn Apart Samuel’s detention has left his wife, Jessica, and their children without the husband and father who has been the center of their lives. Their 10 year old son is especially devastated, and their 16 year old daughter is struggling deeply with the fear and uncertainty of losing her father. Samuel also raised Jessica’s older son — now 19 — from the time he was just a year old. To him, Samuel is his father. Jessica and Samuel have been married for nearly 20 years. Their lives have been built on partnership, sacrifice, and love. Why They Came to the United States In 2022, the family came to the U.S. through the CBP 1 app seeking opportunity and education for their children. Samuel believed deeply in the power of learning. He constantly encouraged his kids to study hard, stay focused, and build a better future. He lived those values every day — working hard, supporting his family, and showing his children what responsibility and love look like. Who Samuel Is Samuel is not just a provider. Two years ago, R and her two young children arrived in the United States and applied for asylum. R came here because the U.S. offered a brighter future for her children, F, now 17, and G, now 8 and autistic. But at a routine check in, R was arrested and detained, leaving F and G with no parents in the U.S. F has two more years of high school and is now also responsible for G’s needs. G is minimally verbal and is thriving in his special education classroom, but he doesn’t have a full understanding of what has happened to their mother. R is fighting to be released and returned to her boys, but in the meantime, F and G need our help to pay rent and legal fees, with some money to spare for fun summer activities – they are, after all, children. Elena’s husband, Javier, was detained on the eastern shore after the work truck he was traveling in was surrounded by ICE vehicles. Javier was thrown to the ground and multiple agents pointed their weapons at him prior to handcuffing him. He has since been deported. Elena is now alone with her eight- and three-year-old daughters and has a very small income from a part-time job. No family is near to help her pay for rent, utilities, supplies, and car payment. When Deysi and her three children–14-year-old Jonathan, 5-year-old Alison, and 2-year-old Liam–said goodbye to their husband and father on April 29 as he left for work, they had no way of knowing it was the last time they would see him walk out their door. Taken by ICE on his way to work, her husband’s absence has left Deysi struggling to pay for food and rent while supporting their three children. Compounding the challenges is the intensive care necessary to provide for 5-year-old Allison, who is recovering from two recent surgeries due to epilepsy. Deysi desperately needs funds to cover her expenses while she cares for her three children. Jayden is 17 and on his own after his stepdad was detained and deported earlier this year. This also left his mom and 3 brothers without a source of income. They were eventually evicted from their apartment, so Jayden's mom and older brothers moved to California, where they have some connections, to find work. Jayden is currently staying with friends and is hoping to stay in Montgomery County to finish summer school before joining his mom and brothers in California. Jayden is working hard and has gotten a part time job to help cover his expenses, but his car has needed multiple repairs, and his mom has only been able to find some part time work. He also lost his beloved cat during this time. Please help this high schooler finish school strong and be able to join his family later this summer. Reyna’s husband was detained on April 17th 2026. After spending three weeks in detention, he was deported to Honduras. He was the family’s primary provider while Reyna stayed home caring for their children, ages 18, 16, 10, and 6. Their children attend schools in the Kensington/Rockville area. Two of the children will graduate from high school and middle school next month and while they are excited about this important milestone, they are also heartbroken that their father will not be able to attend the ceremonies. Reyna plans to arrange a video call so her husband can still share in this beautiful moment. Since her husband’s detention, Reyna has been using their limited savings to pay rent. She has also been receiving weekly grocery deliveries from MoCo IRC and support from friends. Reyna has been searching for work but has not been able to find a job. Because of this, the family has made the difficult decision to relocate so they can be together again. After the children finish the school year, they plan to reunite with their father in Honduras. Your support will help cover airfare for the family of five, as well as some basic living expenses in Honduras.
