During that time, he'll be unable to work and will be focused on healing and getting back on his feet. Anyone who knows Bubba knows he's the kind of person who shows up when people need him. Now it's our turn to show up for him.

<div>Thank you all so much for taking the time to read this. I was admitted to the hospital at the end of December with a mysterious set of symptoms that landed me in the emergency department—then the infectious disease unit—and finally the complex surgical floor at the University of Washington Hospital. It is drastic to put it lightly. And I am still here being treated. A day or so before Christmas, I jaunted towards a closing door to collect my car keys feeling normal, and the slosh inside my lung told me otherwise. Prior to this moment, I’d felt what I thought to be long Covid—but now it had become clear my issue was becoming severe. The emergency room began the tests that would ultimately unveil (I mean ten days later) the appearance of a Valley Fever complication. San Joaquin Valley Fever is common in California in Kern county’s agricultural farm land where I’d worked a large festival in May 2024—the musical line-up was insanely top-tier but I wouldn’t wish the pain and suffering of this on anyone—no matter how entertaining the show.

<div>Mysteriously and untouched by strong antibiotics, a rare fungal infection caused my lung to collapse and become completely overrun by inflammation determined while I was in a sterile negative pressure hospital room for seven days—signage outside the room requiring both visitors and staff to gown up in protective gear, wear an N-95 (circa 2020 covid), gloves and glasses. A mid-sized lesion caused this collapse, first dictated as possible tuberculosis, cancer, necrotic pneumonia or infectious disease. The Valley Fever was confirmed, and the lung seemed slightly better. I went about life in the outside world a few days early January before the fatigue, chills and fever of an infection started to present. Emergency room once more and this time the team determined I’d need a far more intense set of medical procedures and supports to heal.

<div>The lung collapsed a second time. Pleurodesis is the name of the surgery I underwent, which manually creates scar tissue to intentionally adhere the pleural wall to the lung—preventing further collapse. In addition to this the pulmonary and thoracic surgical team determined that a lung resectioning would be the best course of action so they hit that too while I was under the video assist surgery, so, two procedures so far. I have been connected to a suction device to prevent further collapse of the lung requiring two hose style tubes placed between upper and lower ribs. Needless to say—pain level is high but I want to add that spirits are high as well! Since this began—late December, I have been blessed with the support and love of Karina Beeler (also her most amazing children), my dad Marcos Carmona, and sister, Sara Levin—and the visits and support of friends far and wide. I have also been out of work—and as a freelance artist, teacher and student—it’s been a bit daunting and I am realizing that down the month or more of income is an eventual strain. I’m appreciative of any support to help fill the gap of this lost income of the time I have been under medical duress. Thank you all friends and family—I feel blessed by the support and kindness I have received. The love is real!

<div>I miss so many of you, but I have to explain why you don't see me at shows and readings anymore. I am sorry to have to bother my friends with bad news about my health and finances. I do my best to keep others motivated and informed, as creatively as I can, and have dreaded letting people know the truth about my circumstances.

<div>Things have gotten dark for me the past few months; it has been a terrible winter in a number of ways. I have various health conditions, including an ongoing, mysterious, and pernicious combined Bacterial and fungal infection that affects much of my skin, which I won't describe but is very painful and uncomfortable. It's part of a condition I've had for a while and has led to Cellulitis and other things. I also have ACL injuries in both knees and a torn rotator cuff, so this makes me eligible for disability but I can't collect it due to the amount that I have worked.

<div>I have racked up a lot of medical debt for home care specialists from hospitals just to try to heal my wounds, help me with extensive and  frequent Physical Therapy, and live a somewhat normal life around my mission to get word out about really cool releases.

<div>I am also being paid far less than I had been for several years, due to economic circumstances affecting so many of us in the music and arts media culture. 
</div>

<div>And of course with all my bills and basic expenses going up (as is probably happening to you too). at the start of the year, I have to get serious and figure out how to afford life.

<div>During the holidays, most of my savings were wiped out for reasons I won't bring up here. But there was no way to avoid it.

But true to his amazing spirit and tenacity, Gary has beaten the odds up to this point. <div>Last week it was decided by Gary and his care team at Swedish that the best course of action is to stop treating Gary’s cancer and to move into palliative care.

<div>This care regime consists of hospice care, quiet days and nights and the love of his family and close friends. There is still a lot to be done walking this path forward. While Medicare will cover his palliative care expenses, our financial help is needed again. Together we can help provide Gary with economic and psychological relief, by activating this campaign once again.

<div>Our contributions last year were a key component in Gary’s wellness journey. Without the funds we raised, Gary’s treatments would have been compromised by a lack of resources. Allowing Gary to spend the necessary time at hospitals, doctors’ offices and outpatient treatment facilities without financial worries was key to the successes he enjoyed. We all rallied around Gary and provided the strength and courage to make his journey as successful as anyone could hope for.

<div>Gary is upbeat and accepting. He knew this time would come. His body is letting go but his spirit is alive and beautiful. He doesn’t have a lot of strength and spends his time sleeping, listening to music, watching movies and enjoying the comfort of family. He is curtailing outside visits but making space for others when he feels strong enough. There is still life to live and much to do in this time.

<div>What we can all do now is create the positive circumstances that allow for joy, ease, and peace to emerge. He does that for me just by being alive. He will always do this for me and the many others I see who know and love Gary.

Gary's health challenges came quickly, landed pretty hard and led to multiple procedures and a long stay at Swedish Hospital where he continues to get treatment from a great team of physicians, nurses and oncologists.

<div>Like many in the music industry, Gary has had a career where he has survived by way of one creative project to the next, and like most, he hasn't been able to afford health insurance. <div>Hi Friends, Family, and fellow humans. My name is CarLarans, known in some circles as Daddy Noir, and I am a local artist and community member who is in dire need of emergency housing assistance.

<div>As some of you may know, while working as a musician and producer in the Seattle LGBTQ nightlife scene for the past 6+ years, I was also working as a Leasing Manager for Greystar, a property management company where I had been for also over 6 years.

<div>I was very suddenly and unexpectedly laid off from Greystar just before the Holidays due to reasons that are still beyond me. I was told my termination was due to a timecard error (I was made aware I did not clock out for a lunch break on October 29th) which is the entirety of the information I was given. This was very devastating given the years of hard work and dedication, multiple performance based awards, and serving for years as a Diversity Equity and Inclusion advocate for Greystar. I did not wish to fight their decision and return to a toxic work environment so I decided to move on and look for other opportunities.

<div>However in the interim, due to issues and multiple delays with the Washington Unemployment Office, I have been unable to pay rent for December and January and am currently facing eviction if the balance is not paid by the end of this month. While my landlord is sympathetic to my situation and has been gracious in waving late fees etc, as my lease is ending this month, she is unable to renew and I will have to vacate if my rent is not fully paid by the end of this month.

<div>We are heartbroken by the sudden loss of Olimpia Maria Flis. On Thursday August 3rd 2023 we lost a very beautiful soul. She was so full of life. She had the biggest personality and her absence will be deafening. She made friends everywhere she went. With her carefree spirit and a laugh that filled a room she was a force to be reckoned with. Above all she loved her son Henrik and fought for him with every ounce of her being. He was everything to her. As you know the financial burdens that come with an unexpected loss can be overwhelming and unaffordable. The Flis Family are facing significant financial challenges in covering the cost of end-of-life expenses. It’s a lovely project and his talents are required daily and even by the minute to deliver a product he can stand behind and that also looks and feels sensational or his client. I know; I worked on the job for a month at the end of 2022.

<div>As a carpenter your tools are an extension of yourself and your creativity. It takes decades to curate not only the appropriate tools, but the appropriate brand of tools. The more you spend (generally) the higher the quality of the tool and the better your expression can be. Kaleb is an amazing craftsperson. He has/had an extensive and beautiful set of tools. About half of those are gone and he has to replace them immediately. Please, if you can spare any money at all, help Kaleb out. He deserves our community’s support. I'll be undergoing extraction, bone grafting and dental implants due to ongoing problems and loss of bone below the gum line. This procedure is quite expensive, and the recovery period is very long. As a professional trumpet player, educator and teaching artist, it is crucial to have a fully functional set of teeth. Sad as it is that my condition has come to this, but I'm facing the inevitable with great optimism! Most of the funding comes from a financing agency or personal loan; the remainder comes from our savings. Interest rates and monthly payments are very costly. <div>Hi, I'm Jodi, Calli's mom. Many of you know my daughter Calli. What many don’t know is that in February 2022, she was diagnosed with MS (multiple sclerosis). What started as some unexplained back pains &amp; numbness in her legs eventually progressed and became so severe she could no longer drive. Calli endured visits to urgent cares, ERs, primary doctor and radiology appointments that resulted in what was essentially the system trying to tell her she had arthritis, was pre-diabetic and alluding that she didn’t have anything wrong with her.

<div>After finally getting a doctor that ordered a full spine &amp; head MRI, the answers she had been waiting for came surprisingly quick and were not what any of us were expecting. Like the trooper and strong young woman she is, Calli simply accepted the results and immediately went to work learning all she could and working to adapt to her new normal.

<div>Calli’s new normal unfortunately means she has been unable to drive at all. Every doctor appointment. Everytime she needs to go into the office for work (for now is at least twice a week). Dropping off and picking up Baine (her nearly 2yo son). She has had the evaluation to have hand controls installed in her vehicle and the MS Society has offered a grant of $2000 to cover some of the costs but the gift of independence will not come cheap. <div>I have revised the amount because the moving company is charging $1,000 more because the estimate was to low for the size I have. I .ready to scream but God is helping and so is Gracie!! She just calmed me down from the conversation!! If you can help please do..I'm at my whits end....Bless you all for everything you have done and are doing!!   I have several surgeries that have needed to be done over the last three years. They keep putting them off and now I am having trouble walking, I have tremendous pain and need knee surgery on left knee. Can't lift my right arm over my shoulder because 2 muscles are ripped from the Car Jacking and is extremely painful. Finally the last one is the hernia that is now huge!! I have Chrones Disease and have been doing chemo for 18 years now. So on top of it any surgery that I have may not heal properly so it's a little scary. But it's to the point that if I don't do the surgery I won't be able to walk I'll be in a wheelchair, I won't be able to use my right arm other than it hanging down and I can't lift with a hernia. So I'm taking the initiative to go someplace where I have family that can help take care of me during these surgeries and they can get me in by the end of the year or the beginning of next year instead of waiting another year for even a single one of the surgeries. If you know me you know I hate to ask for help. But I'm asking for this because my life needs to be better before I'm no longer here.

<div>I am asking for help with gas, food and lodging to move to West Virginia. There is my sister and brother-in-law and we are transferring doctors as we speak. I have the $4,000 already for moving the furniture that is being picked up in the beginning of September, but I just need help with gas, lodging and food. Anything you could do to help would be wonderful. I sat down and figured out how much gas is going to cost as well as the rest of it and this is about the right price. I deeply appreciate all of you and I will deeply miss all of you. You know it must be important for me to leave my home of 32 years and my family here to go clear across country to get this done.

Moving to WVirginia for Medical Reasons

<div>After 5 years of "Remission" Mary and Ramsey received the unfortunate news that Mary's cancer is back and is now Stage 4. She has already undergone 1 surgery on her hip has a full hip replacement scheduled for next week. With the Diagnosis being so new, there are still a lot of unknowns as far as the cancer goes, but what we do know is that with both hips healing from surgeries , Mary is going to be putting all of her energy into healing and medical appointments to figure out the extent of her cancer care.

<div>With a new house and a new puppy, incoming medical bills and Mary unable to work along with the stress of the diagnosis, Money is tight and the weight on Ramseys shoulders is heavy.

<div>Some of you may remember my post from just this last December about still being in remission from my bout with breast cancer. My mammogram scans came back clear and I thought all was well after meeting with my oncologist in late January.

<div>I’ve been complaining about hip pain since my miscarriage a year and a half ago and it’s been a rollercoaster of a few x-rays, seeing several doctors and seeking out different treatments to help treat what everyone thought was just muscle related.

<div>After being in tears from the pain in late June, my chiropractor ordered an MRI for me. Turns out my breast cancer has actually metastasized (stage 4) into my bones and is eating away at my left hip joint/pelvic bone, as well as my right femur bone (and a few other places I learned after I got back into SCCA for some bone scans and a CT scan).

<div>My oncologist seems positive we can manage it with hormonal medication (joining the menopause clan!)

<div>Everything has happened so quickly since finding all of this out, and this feels like the best way to keep everyone updated.

<div>This morning I’m headed into surgery 1 of 2. They seem certain it’s not a new type of cancer, but they will be taking a biopsy of the lesion on my right femur while they go in and reinforce it with a rod and screw today. Next week I’ll be getting a left hip replacement and they’ll scrape out as much of the tumor while they’re in there as they can. I’ll have radiation after both surgeries and continue with systemic treatment. It’s not curable, just something to manage from here on out.

Marys Cancer Is Back

Hey friends. No one ever wants to have to do this, but the reality is we live in a country that will gladly bankrupt people while they struggle to survive a life-changing and life-threatening diagnosis. <br /><br />Our girl, Rachel LeBlanc, was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin's Lymphoma in early June. Due to a vascular-related complication, she was admitted to Swedish hospital. The medical team determined the severity of her situation warranted a week-long inpatient stay and immediate initiation of chemotherapy. She is back in the comfort of her own home now receiving treatment every other week in what will be, at minimum, a 6-month course of chemotherapy plus a couple radiation rounds. Rachel has had to file for medical leave from her job for this duration; this all follows a prior medical leave on her doctor’s recommendation from burn-out and follow up on months of symptoms.<br /><br />So, there ain't no sugar coating for this cupcake: cancer ain't cheap. Being on medical leave, Rachel will not be collecting income, and may only qualify for minimal financial support through this ordeal. Her work will continue providing insurance through August, and then she will be required to pay out of pocket. Words cannot express how angry it makes me that we do not have systems to provide for people in these situations, but here we are, and that is why as a long-time friend of Rachel I am turning to GoFundMe: America's finest safety-net.<br /><br />Rachel LeBlanc has been a movin', shakin' part of the Seattle DIY community for a decade and a half, volunteering her time and energy cultivating space for the creative endeavors of others, collaborating on multiple projects, and making her own music. She has lent her various talents to Hollow Earth Radio and Debacle Records, plus booked at most DIY and small venues in town. She simultaneously worked for a charitable fundraiser. In the past few years, Rachel made a career change and has served as a funeral director for a not-for-profit co-op funeral home. We wish for a restful and successful treatment throughout the next 6-months so that she can be back in action, doing what she does best: bringing smiles, laughs, and legendary hugs to the people.<br /><br />In addition to providing support for her monthly rent, so our girl can stay housed and focus on her health, funds will be used to help cover the monthly insurance premium she needs to pay to keep her treatment on track -- plus co-payments and other out-of-pocket costs. If we can meet our goal, maybe the woman can even UberEats herself a dinner now and then when she ain't feeling so hot.<br /><br />Again, no one wants to be in this position, but the reality is the next several months are gonna be rough. If you can spare a few bucks now, or possibly come back and spare a few bucks a little later, it would mean a lot and could really make an impact on her ability to focus her attention where it ought to be: on her recovery.

He was only just coming up on his 50th birthday.  Those of you who know him... know him as a talented visual artist, a goofball quick with a laugh, a superhero and animation addict, and a truly kind-hearted soul.

A police report was filed, and we're all hoping this person is caught, held accountable, and that some kind of compensation may come of it.

<p>Bert Hoff--known to some as Dr. Wonderbread--transitioned this past week, on Tuesday August 3 after a brave fight against cancer. Bert seemed have beaten Stage 3 lung cancer a few years ago, but recently had been diagnosed with liver cancer. He passed less than a week following his first treatment. The other morning Matt Spatola, 36, suffered a sudden and traumatic brain bleed leaving him currently intubated in the ICU for the foreseeable future. He is a father to two young kids and wife to my lifelong friend, Ashley. His bleed is in the basal ganglia which is the part of the brain that controls everything. Movement, feelings, speech, perception, memory etc... He will have to re-learn all of this. The road to recovery is going to be long and tough. Right now, there are so many scary unknowns as they endure these next crucial few days as everyone hopes for some improvement.
