<div>This fund is on behalf of my mom, Tery Kafanov, a kind and beautiful artist who was recently diagnosed with a very aggressive and rare form of brain cancer called glioblastoma (GBM).
</div>

<div>On May 26, she underwent a complicated surgery at Lennox Hill Hospital to remove some of the tumor. Without this procedure, doctors said she would not have survived more than a few more weeks. Tragically, Tery suffered a stroke during surgery that severely impacted her speech, cognitive abilities, and mobility of her right side. While GBM is a devastating and rapidly progressing form of brain tumor with no cure, regaining some of these functions is critical in order for my mom to undergo treatment and qualify for clinical trials that could save her life. Unfortunately, this will require costly and intensive rehabilitation therapy.

<div>Tery is currently at NYU Langone's Rusk acute in-patient rehabilitation unit, but her insurance does not cover all of the hospital expenses, inpatient rehabilitation costs, and future outpatient rehabilitation services. <em>The next few weeks are critical: </em>she must make enough of a recovery from the stroke in order to face the difficult battle with this deadly brain cancer.

<div>My mom is a magical human being and I want to help give her a chance to experience more joyful moments on this planet. She is a talented fashion and textile designer who always dressed sharply and dedicated her life to the arts and her family. She and my dad, the artist <a href="https://www.kafanov.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vasily Kafanov</a>, met at an art academy in Moscow when she was 18 years old and the two have been inseparable ever since. When I was seven, she and Dad made the decision to risk everything to flee the oppression in the USSR -- immigrating to New York City, where they could express themselves freely and create a bohemian life full of joy and beautiful art. Mom is a passionate creative soul who has a zest for life and is not ready to give up on living.

Help Tery's Brain Cancer Battle

<p>Sadallah Manzur Villlamar es mi papá, los que han tenido la dicha de conocerlo saben que es una persona trabajadora, siempre alegre, y sobretodo solidario con quien lo necesita, ahora el está necesitando de nuestra ayuda.<br /><br />Ha sido victima del COVID-19, el fue a un chequeo a una clínica privada porque tenía síntomas y fue ahí que su estado empeoró, tuvo que ser entubado y ahora se encuentra en estado crítico en terapia intensiva y ya es imposible trasladarlo a otro sitio. Mi papá no cuenta con un seguro público ni privado y los días en terapia intensiva suman un valor de más de USD 3000,00 DIARIOS sin contar que está necesitando una medicina externa que tiene un valor de USD 400,00 cada dosis y es fundamental que la reciba cada 12H. Hi! <br /><br />My name is Cuci and I play in the band, Afrobeta. <br /><br />We love our music scene here in Miami and last year we produced a music festival called Mooncake to bill some of our favorite artists together at one beautiful venue, The North Beach Bandshell. The event was free to the public and all ages. Thanks to everyone who participated, it was a great success. <br /><br />It was clear to us that our scene was thriving on the type of community building that Mooncake was able to accomplish. <br /><br />Now we want to do it again!<br /><br />This year we have an amazing group of artists and vendors ready to share their incredible gifts with you. <br />Our artists include, The Guitars Over Guns alumni band, The Dutch Hippies, The State Of, Raffa, Galactic Effect, Laura of Miami, Skinny Hendrix and Afrobeta. Including special guest artist, Jen Clay who is creating an interactive installation. <br /><br />We will have a suggested donation of $5 per person at the door this year. <div>Over the past 6 years I have built two Santa sleighs from scraps, placed on top of dirt bike and utility trailers. I use the SLEIGH for my charity events called XMAS4MISFITS. These events (held at the end of the calendar year) collect clothing, food, hygienic products, and XMAS gifts for those in need.

<div>Isabella was adopted roughly two years ago during a snowstorm. Heather and I had recently laid our bubs Banjo and Felix to rest, and were on the hunt for a new companion. Heather told me a BELGIAN MALINOIS was out of the question. We decided another house panther is what we needed in our lives. While combing many adoption sites, we saw a picture of ISA, during the first snow of October 2023. We raced down to the city and county animal shelter, and signed the papers.

<div>Our two year old house panther has had a rough go with her health the last 6 months. Causing a good bit of financial pressure. As of 11/25/2025, we have racked up $8236.34 in debt. This includes overnight hospital stays, emergency room visits, blood and lab tests, extremely expensive pharmaceuticals and other related costs. Heather and I expect the total tab to be around 12K dollars. Isabella has a weak immune system, and we expect going to the VET will be a recurring theme.

<div>7/25/2025 – Surgical removal of a microchip-site injection sarcoma. Pathology results came back non-cancerous.

<div>10/18/2025– Became ill (stopped eating, lethargic). Taken to VEG ER where she was given IV fluids and had bloodwork done. A transfer to Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital for monitoring was recommended. She stayed overnight, showed some improvement, and was picked up the next day.

<div>10/21/2025 – Dropped off for an ultrasound. Nodules were discovered on her spleen. Awaiting cytologist’s report.

<div>10/25/2025 – Aspirate results came back no cancer. Met with the internal medicine doctor to discuss possible diagnosis.
</div>

<div>10/29/2025 – Bloodwork showed high globulin levels, suggesting possible infection.

<div>10/30/2025 – Under anesthesia, samples (aspirates) were taken from her liver and spleen.

<div>10/31/2025– While awaiting results, the doctor initiated treatment for possible toxoplasmosis with antibiotics and anti-nausea medication. Aspirate results expected the following week, with possible concern for FIP (feline coronavirus).

<div>11/7/2025 – Liver and spleen aspirates revealed non-specific inflammation and no signs of cancer. FeCoV (feline coronavirus) blood test came back positive, indicating exposure to the virus that can potentially mutate into FIP.

<div>11/11/2025 – Began treatment for FIP using GS-441524 (“Liquid Gold”), administered twice daily.
</div>
