My name is Karen, and I’m the manager at Jim & Jacks in Cincinnati, where my lifelong friend Sissy Smith has been a dedicated employee for 41 years. She was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer and will begin her treatment journey, needing time off work to take care of her health. We are raising money to help offset costs associated with her diagnosis and time off of work.

Jose Gamboa was a hardworking and devoted father who led by example through perseverance, integrity, and selflessness. Known for his kindness and generosity, he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, often putting others before himself. His strong work ethic, compassion, and unwavering support for his family and community left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jose’s recent passing has left a profound void in our lives. As we grieve, we are also faced with the challenge of helping his beloved wife, Maria Gamboa, transition and find stability during this difficult time. The funds raised will go directly to supporting Maria as she navigates this new chapter, helping to ease the financial and emotional burdens that come with such a significant loss.

We are deeply grateful for the kindness, generosity, and support shown to our mother during this difficult time. Your contributions, prayers, and words of encouragement have provided relief as our family navigates the loss of our beloved father. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with our mother and helping her to ease this burden. Your compassion means more than we can express.

Support for Maria Gamboa After Jose’s Passing

On December 13, MukhammadAziz Umurzokov was tragically taken from us in the Brown University shooting. He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people. He continues to be my family’s biggest role model in all aspects. He always lent a helping hand to anyone in need without hesitation, and was the most kind-hearted person our family knew. Our family is incredibly devastated by this loss. Any donations will help significantly with any expenses my family will have to face, and the rest of the funds will be donated to charity in his name.

Thank you for taking the time to read his story and remembering him. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

UPDATE - November 4, 2024:

Dear friends and family of Jennifer, we now know that Jennifer's battle with cancer will be an ongoing one. After two surgeries in quick succession over the last 6 weeks, a biopsy revealed microscopic cancer cells in the bones of her mouth. This discovery means that Jennifer's medical team at The James in Columbus will be performing another major surgery on November 18. This surgery will be very extensive and intense, and the physical road to recovery will be long and will necessitate follow-up radiation.

Jennifer will not be able to teach cello or perform for the foreseeable future, and this hiatus will greatly impact her income. She needs our help now to cover medical costs and to help create financial stability for her and her family (husband Eric and daughter Mia). Any amount you can give is greatly appreciated, as are all your prayers, well-wishes, and loving thoughts! Please share this to help us support Jennifer as she continues to courageously fight cancer and these new health challenges.

UPDATE - September 19, 2024:

Dear friends, we need your continued support for our wonderful, amazing Jennifer. Earlier this week, they found a small cancerous lesion in her mouth, which will require another (small) surgery to remove. That surgery has been scheduled for this upcoming Monday, September 23. It is expected to be a relatively simple surgery with a quick recovery, so that’s great news! It will, however, mean that Jennifer and Eric have more unexpected medical costs to cover and will absolutely appreciate any continued financial support we can give! As always - thank you for your incredible generosity and support. We cannot thank you enough!

UPDATE, November 2023:

Thank you for all this amazing support for Jennifer! It is incredibly touching to see; these donations are going to go a long way to help offset all the dental bills that will come post-surgery. Knowing that and seeing the outpouring of love, our new goal is $7,000. Please, keep sharing and spreading the word! And again - THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts!

UPDATE - October 31, 2023:

Jennifer’s surgery today went well and according to plan! She is feeling good so far and her doc is happy. Please keep the prayers and good thoughts coming. ❤️

Original post, October 2023:

My name is Rose Reidmiller Gowda and I'm organizing this GoFundMe for my dear friend and colleague, Jennifer Higgins Wagner. If you know Jennifer, you probably already know these things about her:

she's a passionate musician (cellist), creating and teaching beautiful music every day.

she's incredibly kind, genuine, and loving. She truly listens and deeply cares for others, and those lucky enough to be in her life feel this on the daily. Jen will always go above and beyond to help you out - you can count on her no matter what!

she impacts the lives of young musicians in profound ways; she's a brilliant teacher and mentor, connecting to her students musically and personally with warmth, understanding, and love. She helps them to become the best musicians and people they can be.

she's humorous, resilient, and STRONG. We have all seen her face uphill battles with determination and grace... and a few good jokes!

Now, Jennifer needs our help as she undergoes another surgery for oral cancer. She has unwavering spirit, and the amazing support of loving family and friends. However, her medical and dental expenses will be daunting, and here is where we - her extended community - can really make a difference! Thank you for your generosity and support!

Help Jennifer Wagner with her medical expenses

My adorable, brilliant, funny as fuck and uber-supportive friend, Liz Logan's husband Doug was just transferred to Calvary Hospital (an excellent hospice in the Bronx) as he is dying of advanced Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia. He broke his hip 20 months ago and there's been a catastrophic decline since. He's been entirely bed-ridden for months and she's been heroically caring for him at home, but the diapering and the bedsores and the progressive delirium, and now difficulty swallowing informed their joint decision to transfer him to an in-patient hospice after a lengthy hospitalization earlier this month. Liz is beside herself, but relieved that he's in such a great facility (it took her moving mountains to get him there due to an only-in-America purgatorial insurance issue). Sweet Doug either has days or months, nobody can project how quickly he will wind down.

Liz stopped being able to drive at all about a year ago due to extreme anxiety that was partially informed by Doug's decline, which renders her distracted at the wheel. The cost of a Lyft from her apartment in Yonkers to Calvary is $70 roundtrip at the times she usually goes. They have been a single income household for several years but obviously Doug was forced to retire about a year ago due to his rapidly declining health so money is tight. Let's help defray Liz's Lyft transport expenses and maybe chip in for delicious food delivery options for her since there are many occasions when she's at the hospice and can't cook for herself now. I know some of you have already bought Lyft gift certificates for her, she's so grateful, but she's blown through those. I'm posting this on her wall because I know there is an army of us who love and are addicted to all things LL and we care so profoundly for this poor couple, it's been such a long road for them.

Please do share the post on your own wall if you can. I have some beautiful people in my life who wind up donating even when they don't know the person, you might know unicorns like this as well? Sorry if this effort to collect is so scattered. We love you, Liz and Doug!

Hello friends and family,

Please, please consider supporting our Bret as he fights this very unexpected and challenging fight. Bret was dropping off the kids at school when suddenly the pain in his leg was too great to ignore. He drove directly to an urgent care where they immediately sent him via an ambulance to the hospital. Bret was diagnosed with a severe streptococcus bacterial infection that has sent him into toxic shock. He has been placed in a medically induced coma where the doctors are doing everything possible to get him stable. He will need surgery as soon as his body is strong enough. Bret has shown improvement today and the doctors have been able to lower doses and even stop several of the medications that were previously necessary. His wife Leah has been by his side since this harrowing experience started.

Bret and Leah have three amazing and talented children; Oskar is 10 and the best big brother to his twin sisters Violet and Scarlet, ages 5.

Thank you so very much for supporting Bret and Leah and sending love, light and prayers. Medical expenses can swell in the blink of an eye. Please share this page with your community and friends. We are all so appreciative. All funds will go directly to Bret's medical bills and expenses.

The friends of the Roberts family have created this fundraiser. Keely Roberts and her 8-year-old son, Cooper, were significantly impacted by the tragic events of the Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois. Cooper’s brother Luke was also present, witnessed both of those injuries, and suffered emotional trauma that day. Cooper’s spinal cord was severed, and he is paralyzed from the waist down. After undergoing many surgeries, suffering complications, and spending weeks in the hospital and rehabilitation, he is now home where he continues to work with doctors, nurses, and rehabilitation experts on his healing and progress. Cooper continues to fight as hard as he can. We know the family’s medical bills will be significant, as will the treatments, therapy, and all of the equipment, devices, and needs in their home. Please continue to keep the Roberts family in your thoughts and prayers. Any help you can provide is deeply appreciated.

Help Florida COVID-19 whistleblower Rebekah Jones!

Around noon on Monday June 1st, I set out to purchase a few things from my local Walgreens. As I am walking out i notice a vehicle up on the curb, and someone waving frantically in the driver seat trying to get my attention. I came up to the car and she proceeded to tell me that her car overheated and locked up running her out of the road and onto the curb. She was noticeably sweating and informed me she has been sitting in her car for 30 minutes trying to get someone’s attention while in her car that did not have AC to begin with. I helped her out of her vehicle and she pulled her walker out of the backseat, and I continued to help her to my truck to blast the AC on her and calm her down. As i tried to start her car, I could tell the power steering was completely out and I smelt coolant very badly. She had no phone, or means to contact anyone to help. I called triple A and they’re sending a truck to tow it, it has now been 3 and a half hours and we have gotten to know each other quite a bit. This woman is an angel, going on 91 years of age. Her husband died 27 years ago, she has no kids, no relatives alive, and no neighbors. She then told me she hasn’t even eaten thanksgiving dinner with another person since her husband died. No Christmas, no celebrating her birthday. I hurt for her. If she doesn’t deserve a used car that she does not have to worry about falling apart or burning her alive, she atleast deserves her car to be maintenanced and back on the road. She has no means to the hospital, church, or grocery store. Although I know a lot of you would help her with those things, I think she deserves to do this independently for the remainder of her time here. I don’t ask anyone for anything, but if you could find it in your heart to donate or even share it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone!

Something Special For A Very Deserving Woman

Due to death threats, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford (who uses “Dr. Blasey” professionally) and her family have had to leave their residence and arrange for private security. Let’s create a fund to cover her security expenses, to do just a bit to make it easier for women in her position to come forward despite great risks. If we raise more than Dr. Blasey needs, extra funds will go to women’s organizations and/or into an account to cover similar costs incurred in comparable situations.

I do not know Dr. Blasey personally but will contact her via her former high school, Holton Arms, to inform her of this fundraising appeal and to make arrangements to transfer funds to Dr. Blasey.

I am a professor of law at Georgetown University who has raised money formally and informally for other causes over the years. My reason for starting this fundraiser is to make concrete the power of collective action in providing security, and therefore support, for Dr. Blasey’s willingness to contribute to a thorough, fair vetting of a nominee for Supreme Court Justice.

Cover Dr. Blasey’s security costs

James Shaw Jr. put his life on the line when he took on the gunman who killed four people at a Nashville area Waffle House. Since that horrific shooting, he has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the victims and shown a level of humility that has inspired many of us.

I normally don't get involved directly in these matters, but James' grace has inspired me to start this page to give him the support I feel he deserves.

According to news reports, James has a four-year-old daughter. Perhaps this money can be used for her college fund or some other education related expense. But I'd be just as happy if James used some of this money to take his family on a nice vacation.

Funds will be transferred directly to James Shaw Jr. through GoFundMe.

Help The Waffle House Hero

Jordon Dyrdahl-Roberts DID NOT start this GoFundMe. I started it for him.

He quit his job so he would not have to help ICE hunt down & deport undocumented workers. He is taking a stand against the Trump Administration's policies at great risk. He is a hero. And he deserves support while he looks for another job. Please help. He tells the story best in his own words. You can read his Twitter thread from Feb. 7, 2018 below:

"I put in my two weeks notice.
I work at Montana Department of Labor.
There were going to be ICE subpoenas for information that would end up being used to hunt down & deport undocumented workers. It would have been my responsibility to prepare the information and hand them off to ICE.
I refuse to aid in the breaking up of families. I refuse to just “follow orders.”
This isn’t an easy decision as it puts me in a delicate financial position. I’ve got a toddler, an underemployed wife in grad school & two cats.
There’s about $900 in my checking account.
People have asked why am I doing this if I have a child. I’m doing this because I have a child. I want to be able to look my child in eye.
So many people are waiting on the 2018 elections, but many people being targeted by this administration don’t have that long.
I’m drawing my line in the sand here. Cooperation with this regime is not acceptable.
Seriously, fuck ICE."

Jordon finds himself in a similar position as I did a couple of months ago when so many people stepped up to help me and called me a hero. Jordon is a hero.

Thank you Jordon. This means a lot to me and our country!

Said No To ICE

Juli Briskman is an inspiration to us all. This week we learned that she was fired from her employer for exercising her first amendment rights.

You can show your support by donating here.

I have connected with Juli and she has been officially setup as the beneficiary on this GoFundMe campaign.

All proceeds are being donated directly to Juli. As the campaign beneficiary, she will be able to post updates and comments, so stay tuned!

Thank You Juli Briskman

My name is Marine Veteran Sergeant Andy Slivka, and I've been working for the last three years to help my interpreter Zia obtain a special immigrant visa to come to the United States.

Zia worked with many different coalition forces as an interpreter in order to provide safety and security to our troops abroad. Without his help, we would have put our mission and the safety of our troops at risk. Zia put his life on the line for us in Afghanistan while serving with U.S. forces, and continues to do so after we have left the area where he is still in danger.

We are finally coming to the end of the process, but we are going to need some help bringing Zia home where he belongs. There is a medical screening process that has to be completed before October 11th which has put a large financial burden on Zia and his family. In addition to this, we would also like to try and help Zia as much as we can in his transition into American life by providing him, his wife, and six children with a monetary transitional buffer to see to their success once they finally come to America. This money will help them provide housing for themselves, and sustain them until Zia is able to start working in the United States and live the American dream that he earned by helping us abroad.

I had the pleasure of serving with Zia in Afghanistan and made a promise to him that I would see to him and his family coming to America no matter what. I have held true to my efforts and ask for the help of others to aid our cause.

There is no way to express what bringing Zia to the US means to the people that served with him, and there is no way to express our gratitude for your contribution to his smooth transition to the United States.

Thank you for your time and your compassion, and I hope that I have the opportunity to share positive updates in the near future!

Bring Zia Home

This is Mary. She is 2 yrs old and fighting aplastic anemia, a life-threatening disorder in which the bone marrow does not function properly. She has been in isolation in the hospital for over a month and undergone multiple blood transfusions and treatments with no end in sight. Mary, her 4 yr old brother George and their parents, Mark & Nancy are fighters but we can't let them fight alone. Mary is being cared for by Cincinnati Childrens Hospital, one of the best childrens' medical facilities in the world but the care they are providing is intensive and expensive. We are asking for your help to assist this family to be able to afford the care that their precious daughter needs. Every dollar that goes in to this fund will be used for Mary's medical care so be as generous as you can. Thank you and God bless!

We have never been closer to a huge breakthrough in LGBTQ protections in a state that will have ripple effects nationally.

It is time for us to demand huge strides, not tiny measures, in changing the culture and the laws in Florida to ensure we stop the discrimination and violence that anti-LGBTQ hatred makes inevitable.

We are asking you now to join us in achieving two goals that are ambitious but achievable if we have the courage to stand together.

Banning anti-LGBTQ discrimination in Florida and passing gun violence prevention policies in the third most populous state in the country.

Florida has a long and hateful history when it comes to the treatment of LGBTQ people and has been the springboard for national anti-gay campaigns from Anita Bryant to the Liberty Counsel. Florida-based groups have not only done harm here, they’ve exported their prejudice to states around the nation and other countries as well.

But the tide has turned in our favor as hearts have softened and minds have opened in the wake of Pulse. Shame on us if we let this moment pass without pushing with all our might for the state to treat us all as equals under the law and to end easy access to weapons of mass slaughter.

We are so very grateful to have found the resources to help these people and their families get services, make up for lost wages, heal wounds and begin to put their lives back together.

Will you stand with us again and fulfill the promise of real change as the lasting memorial #ForThe49?

Inspired by our work in the aftermath of Pulse, an anonymous donor will match the first $100,000 raised for this campaign.

http://victimconnect.org/

------------------------

Please contribute and share this page. #WeAreOrlando

For the latest information, visit:
-facebook.com/equalityfl
-eqfl.org/news/pulse
-http://www.eqfl.org/news/pulse/spanish

For those who prefer to check, please see below:

Equality Florida Institute, Inc.
P.O. They were often the only safe gathering place and this horrific act strikes directly at our sense of safety. June commemorates our community standing up to anti-LGBTQ violence at the Stonewall Inn, the nightclub that has become the first LGBTQ site recognized as a national monument.

We have received a steady stream of emails and messages from those seeking to help or to make sense of the senseless. We make no assumptions on motive. We will await the details in tears of sadness and anger. We stand in solidarity and keep our thoughts on all whose lives have been lost or altered forever in this tragedy.

Graphic designed by local artist Tony Chevy.
