<div>On Wednesday the 12th of April Siobhán was biking home from work. She loved to bike around the streets of Ybor, until her accident. She hit a bump on 8th Avenue and flew directly into the curb. She immediately felt the rush of her face falling, a result of shattering her jaw. Thankfully, the rest of her body remained unharmed. She immediately called me and I was able to trace her usual route to find her. She was convinced that she would die in those moments before an ambulance showed up and took her to Tampa General Hospital where she has remained since.

<div>She’s gone through some of the worst pain anyone can experience. Her entire jaw had to be restructured with plates and will remain shut for about a month. In that time she will be unable to eat or work. She will need extensive dental work to repair her remaining teeth and replace the ones that were knocked out.

<div>Her mom, Aisling, was on the first flight to Tampa and has been with Siobhán since the accident.
</div>

<div>Unfortunately, Siobhán lost her insurance benefits in December when she was laid off. We are both extremely prideful people and hate to ask for help, but we know this is the time we most need it. If you are able, please consider donating to Siobhan’s medical fund.

<div>I wish this was a bright and shiny email, instead of an embarrassing and dreary, especially on my birthday. I have had so much stress with 3 other big problems and this is 4th problem is the icing on the cake and by far the cheapest problem, but still spendy for me.

<div>With your help and my parents, I want to be able to eat and drink food of all temperatures. The good news, I have lost weight this week, since it hurts to drink and eat. I found I can drink luke warm water if I tilt my head to the left. I am able to eat some foods if they are dry and luke warm, so I have just avoided eating.

<div>I have talked to 5 dentists and have had 7 dentist visits in the last 3 days. Competency levels wildly vary.

<div>Thursday, I got the monstrous cavity removed. It was 6mm deep x10mm wide that was under my filling. (I do have a pic). This was tooth #3 which is back top molar. The competent dentist suspects this was many months, maybe even a year that is has been growing.

<div>However, that didn't resolve the pain. So I will limit my eating during my bday weekend to make until Monday or Tuesday to get take out the cavity on the neighboring tooth #2. Then there are 2 more after that. If that doesn't resolve it, then it will be root canal time. This is just on my right side.

<div>The left side gets sore sometimes (I am teeth grinder). There are 2 cavities just at a glance, no doubt there are more. Next week, I will ask if the dentist can look at the left side.

<div>You may wonder, do you brush your teeth? Yes, I use a sonicare in the morning and night. I use a flosser and mouth wash.

<div>I have state insurance, so it is a drastically different level of care. I just went to the dentist in November and there were no cavities detected. Yesterday and the day before, the state clinic saw no cavities, confirmed by their two dentists, yet I have 4 just on my right side.

<div>I thought about showing you pictures, so you can see, you don't have to be a dentist to notice these cavities, but I think it is gross.

Relieve my dental pain

Karen Tang has been battling cancer for 10 years.  She has undergone chemo and radiation treatments.  With the help of her husband Mike and two sons she has made progress and fought to stay on the road to recovery and remission. Her form of cancer was a melanoma and it had metastasized and spread to several areas in her body.<br /><br />  One of the surgeries she needed was to remove a cancerous spot from her brain.  Karen’s prognosis was good and she had been doing well for an extended period of time.  In late summer of 2019 Karen experienced stroke like symptoms and could not move or talk.  Karen was rushed to the emergency room.  She required weeks of hospital care and a month in rehab and eventually was able to go home very near her normal self.<br /><br /> <strong>After being home for a short time</strong> she relapsed with essentially the same symptoms. She was back in the hospital and then transferred to the University of Minnesota Hospital system.  She was hospitalized again for a period of time as she recovered and then went through another stint in rehab within the University of Minnesota system.<br /><br />The doctors at the U of MN determined that the cause of Karen’s symptoms were seizures that were a result of scarring within her brain tissue from her previous surgery.  Karen again was returned home and all felt life was returning to normal.  She was herself again and our hopes were high.<br /><br /><strong>Two days before Christmas the seizures returned</strong> and Karen was back at the University Hospitals and another stay in rehab.  Karen is home again as of January 10th, 2020.<br /><br /> <br /><br />Karen worked at Cub Foods in Lakeville and some of her medical expenses were covered by her union insurance coverage.  As she has been away from work since late summer her medical insurance coverage was ended on December 31, 2019.<br /><br /><strong>Mike and Karen are facing some large medical bills including most necessary anti-seizure medication.</strong>  Mike is working to investigate and apply for all possible medical assistance to help alleviate the financial strain on his family.  Until all possible financial assistance can be explored and applied for we are asking for help to allow Mike and Karen to meet their financial needs<br /><br /><strong>Your donations and prayers are greatly appreciated.<br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/44704094_1578868170348456_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="44704094_1578868170348456_r.jpeg" /><br /></strong>

Karen Tang Medical Assistance

As many you know, I am a 12-year breast cancer survivor. In early May I was diagnosed with my 2nd breast cancer.  I am undergoing a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction in a few days.  I won't know if I have to do chemo until mid-July due to tests that need to be run on the tumor.  <br /><br />This has been a tough year for me. I've been unemployed for some time and then had pneumonia and sepsis in February. And now this... While Medicaid is covering the medical portion, I still need help with rent, car payment and a credit card.  I've been an Uber driver to help offset some of my expenses, but I will be unable to drive for 8-12 weeks depending on my healing.  <br /><br />I'm asking my friends for a little help.  The great thing about crowdsourcing is that a little bit goes a long way! I am a believer in community and helping when I can.  I am thankful for any help you can give.  And if you can't help today- just share this post.  <br /><br />I love you all and hope to get back to my normal, joyful self soon!  Thank you for your love and generosity!

Fighting Cancer a 2nd Time

On the evening of July 5th, a large storm hit our neighboorhood very strongly. Our Big Toothed Aspen tree that stood highest in our neighboorhood at over 60ft was blown over by strong winds and landed in our house. It collapsed the roof and cut into the bedrooms, tearing apart the closet where most of Christin's clothing is kept. 2 inches of rain fell overnight and the water poured through all the light fixtures in the upper level of the house. Soaking the bed and carpets.  While insurance covers structural damages, there is much that insurance will not cover. For example Insurance pays to have the tree removed from the structure. Once it is removed from the structure and the parts that are not "on" the structure and the removal of the tree from the property have to be paid for out of pocket and are not counted against the deductible.  Our deductible is $1000.00. The City Building Inspector was here and he may have to deem our home unihabitable. The tree weighs in around 9.6 tons and shifted the house and may have damaged the structural integrity. We are going to have to have a an engineer come in and look at the house to determine its safety.  The contractors have been out and are talking about several months before the house will be finished from clean up to rebuild.  We have recently reestablished ourselves after selling everything we owned to move overseas and then returned to the Minnesota. We used the last of our savings for the down payment on the house, (we just closed on the house in September of last year) and then we maxed out our credit to buy the things we needed like pots/pans, dishes, linens, and furniture.   We are very overwhelmed and still in shock.  Asking for help is extremely hard but we are at a loss for what we can do. Rebuilding our house

Mike and Kim Hegmegee are known to so many people in the U.P. and beyond, especially alumni of NMU's Forest Roberts Theatre.  A fire has completely destroyed their home of 21 years, and we can do more than say that we're sorry (but so happy none of them were injured).  <br /><br />I met "Morgan" on my first day at NMU, in Vic's Stagecraft Class.  I was super nervous, going back to school as a "mature student" and as soon as I sat down, Kim stood up (all 4'11" of her) thrust out her hand and said, "Hey, I'm Morgan!"   Heg and I were in a few shows together, but mostly I remember his hugs when I was feeling blue.  <br /><br />Being so far away, as many of us are, we need a vehicle to help our friends.  Let's do this.<br /><br />Barbara Burri, NMU Class of 1992

<p class="MsoNormal">This August, Kate was diagnosed with lung cancer.&nbsp; She underwent surgery, after which
extensive testing led her doctors to believe that the cancer was gone.&nbsp; However, in February,&nbsp;Kate's
doctors discovered that this was not, in fact, the case.&nbsp; The cancer was back.&nbsp; Since receiving this news, Kate has
seen numerous talented physicians and other medical professionals.&nbsp; The consensus is that Kate's cancer IS
CURABLE.&nbsp; However, Kate's treatment
plan is more complicated than most because she has suffered from another kind
of cancer--CLL, or Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia--for over fifteen years.&nbsp; Kate will undergo chemotherapy and
radiation treatment.&nbsp; She will eat
according to strict nutritional diet plan&nbsp;and she will take a large&nbsp;number of supplements that will
strengthen her body's ability to handle the chemo and radiation.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">This is the treatment plan is Kate's best"”and only"”chance at
survival.&nbsp; However, it is also
exceptionally expensive.&nbsp; While
Kate does have health insurance, she must pay the very high deductable, make
high monthly insurance payments, and make co-payments for doctor visits and
prescriptions. &nbsp;Also,
Kate has to travel to the hospitals that are best suited to administer her
unique treatment plan.&nbsp; Right now,
this means going to Chicago five times over the next two months for
chemotherapy.&nbsp; In the coming
months, she may also have to travel to San Diego and Texas&nbsp;for additional treatment.&nbsp; Luckily,
Kate will undergo radiation therapy in New York City, where she lives, but
because of her weak immune system, she will have to take
cabs to and from the hospital five days per week for at least two&nbsp;month<span class="msoIns"><ins cite="mailto:For example, s" datetime="2013-03-18T10:39">s</ins></span>.&nbsp; Additionally, insurance does not cover the high cost of the
supplements that her doctor insists are an integral part of her treatment plan.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">During the course of her treatment, Kate's immune system
will be seriously compromised, she will be exhausted, and she will experience periods of&nbsp;extreme nausea.&nbsp; As
a result, her doctors have insisted that Kate take a hiatus from work-related
travel, speaking engagements, performances, and even writing.&nbsp; For the next eight to ten months, Kate
will be undergoing treatment and recovering from cancer, so she will not be
able to work.&nbsp; This means that Kate
will have no way to pay for rent, utilities, food, pet care, or any other
normal expense.&nbsp; So, not only does
Kate have to worry about paying her medical bills, she also has to worry about
paying her basic living expenses.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">This is where we come in.&nbsp; Kate's work"”her books, lectures, performances, apps, and online
presence"”has helped countless people choose life instead of&nbsp;suicide.&nbsp;
