 On July 28, Robert and I attended our scheduled USCIS interview for his marriage-based green card application with our immigration attorney. We went into the appointment expecting to take another important step toward building our future together. Instead, at the conclusion of the interview, ICE officers detained Robert based on a visa overstay.

 Like many couples, we followed the legal process to apply for a green card through adjustment of status after our marriage. We have worked hard to do everything we could the right way, and we never imagined that attending a required immigration interview would end with our family being separated.

 On July 29, Robert was transferred to an ICE detention facility in Bakersfield, where he remains while our immigration attorneys work urgently to pursue every available legal avenue to secure his release. We are filing motions, appeals, and taking the steps necessary to keep his case moving forward. I will keep this page updated as details become available.

 The past several days have been some of the hardest of our lives. The uncertainty has been overwhelming, and being separated from the person you love without knowing when you'll see them again is heartbreaking. We are doing our best to take things one day at a time.

We are committed to working under indigenous leadership, working towards sustainable soil and land restoration. <br /><br />We have broken ground on this beautiful piece of land that we are so very gifted to steward, but we are in need of community support since we received only half of what we expected in loans. While that was a great first step, and those funds enabled us to build a large greenhouse and 1 hoop house, we are still missing essential systems such as electricity, heating and cold storage, and a delivery van. Because this land was not previously farmed organically, the soil needs testing, amending, and intense labor to deal with pest pressures using non-toxic methods. We are engaged in a 3 year soil research project and are committed to organic and sustainable land restoration practices. Flower farm needs delivery van & farming supplies

On the early morning of Friday February 18th, 2022, our father, Robert Abreu was brutally shot in the face by a deranged transient whilst driving on his morning commute to work in Napa. This tragic incident took place along Highway 29. While driving his truck, Robert was shot in the face through his rear passenger side window by the reckless driver that was unknown in relation to him, a total stranger. He then pulled over himself and was thankfully able to call 911 to get help. From there he was airlifted to a hospital outside of Napa and is in critical condition.  Unfortunately Robert is uninsured and this tragedy has not only nearly taken his life but has put a dire financial burden on him. We don't want him to have worry about getting back to daily life any time soon, as we want him to focus his energy solely on his recovery and healing.<br /><br />Rob is a father to three loving daughters and grandfather to 6 awesome grandkids. <p>My name is Rhadiante Van de a Voorde and I am a caring friend, neighbor and business owner affected by the CZU fires in Boulder Creek. I am creating this GoFundMe campaign to help my friend Tara Bong  and her daughter Emiko who lost her home and all its contents in the Fire.

Sentimental belongings that cannot be replaced  in addition to losing everything in her home  have  her feeling  beyond devastated.  Tara has renter’s insurance, however, insurance is never enough when everything you own is destroyed.

CZU Fire Victim - Tara Bong - needs relief

Our mother fell upon hard times and lost our family home years ago, ending up literally homeless for over a decade.<br /><br />Back in 2007, I managed to purchase a modest lot, poured a concrete foundation, installed septic, electric, and water service, and relocated a second-hand manufactured home we found on Craigslist to give mom a safe, clean place to call home. (That's my brother, sister, and I in the pic, working on the project.)<br /><br />Mom's lived in this home now for about 13 years.  She spends her days gardening on the property, caring for her dogs, and basically just getting by. <br /><br />Mom's been living with mental and physical health issues for quite some time, and is not able to drive, nor work. She's been hospitalized with strokes more than once, and the dementia makes it difficult to communicate with her about important issues. We can't afford to put her into a care facility, nor would she want this. We've always just figured she would live happily ever after in this home.<br /><br />I own the property and the home, so the expenses including property taxes are on me. I have never collected rent from Mom.  I've been paying the property taxes for many years. Due to "life", I'm now behind on property taxes in the amount of $4,924.38. It was a bit of a surprise honestly, as I have most of my bills on autopay - apparently this one fell off my radar.<br /><br />2016 - amount owed $842.12<br />2017 - amount owed $1,555.09<br />2018 - amount owed $1,104.67<br />2019 - amount owed $961.06<br />2020 - amount owed $461.44<br /><br />If it were not for the financial stress our own family has been dealing with, due to current Covid-19 crisis, we would be in a better position to take care of this on our own. <br /><br />Since I'm so far behind, I am at risk of losing the property if the delinquent amount is not paid soon. The only thing the County is doing for Covid-19 financial hardship is pushing the March due date to June for 2020 taxes; they're not doing anything about delinquent amounts.<br /><br />Any help is appreciated. Mom's Property Taxes

As the Laguna de Santa Rosa overflowed, water crept into the Barlow threatening our livelihood, our businesses and our community. The flooding continued throughout the course of Tuesday evening and Wednesday, raising waters within our Sebastopol shop to nearly shoulder height. Our sweet shop of nectar has been completely turned inside out, leaving nothing but contaminated products and all our equipment piled up on top of one another. To see our shop in such despair is heartbreaking .. rather there are no words to describe watching the past five years drown in murky waters, unable to do anything but wait for the waters to recede, begin to comprehend what has just happened and through it all, try to formulate a plan to get back to serving our community.<br /> <br />This community has showered us with tremendous love and support over the past five years and with that, we seek to return to a sense of normalcy, which is hard to imagine at this time. As you can see from the pictures, we have a long road to recovery. Not only will we have to pick up the pieces, but our entire inventory has been contaminated. We will throw out thousands of dollars of retail inventory, likely have to replace most of our equipment and that’s just scratching the surface. We are in disbelief.  We are looking to answer questions that don’t have an answer yet.<br /> <br />Though the journey will be long, we are strong and resilient. The Nectary is part of something bigger than our sweet shop. We are part of West County, a community that supports local makers and creators, and continuously seeks to show the abundance of our lands. It’s a community that comes together no. matter. what. That’s why we are asking for your help, which isn’t easy to do. We want to be back in business as soon as possible and that requires replacing a lot of costs upfront. LAS VEGAS VICTIMS' FUND

<div>On Tuesday April 8th, the Nixon family home caught fire and was destroyed. Elizabeth, Colby, and their two young children were at work and school when it happened. Their dog Otis was rescued by a neighbor, but their home was completely lost. They have a toddler not yet two, and a five year old who turns six next week. The cause of the fire has been identified by the fire crew as coming from likely an electrical malfunction near where their TV and modem were. Fortunately no other homes were affected.

<div>This tragedy comes at a time when their family is already struggling and under unusual amounts of stress. Both sets of Elizabeth’s and Colby’s parents have been in and out of the hospital in the last two weeks, suffering a heart attack, a battle against an aggressive form of cancer, a bad fall and hip replacement surgery. Elizabeth and Colby Nixon both work full-time as educators; Colby teaching Spanish at a community college and Elizabeth at a private school in San Mateo County. Their small home was in the tiny community of La Honda, which is still accessible to the Peninsula area of San Mateo county, to remain within a 40 minutes commute to their jobs. They do not have enough savings on hand to cover the sudden high expense of a rental, first and last month and deposit.

<div>La Honda is considered to be a high danger wildfire risk area, according to insurance plans. Because of this, their insurance was covered by the "California FAIR Plan." "The FAIR Plan" is available to California residents and businesses in urban and rural areas who cannot obtain insurance through a regular insurance company. Coverage is ok but not the same as standard insurance, which many of us in CA no longer have access to, due to location.

<div>The Nixon family is currently displaced, at a hotel, and trying to keep things as stable as possible for their young children in the midst of this crisis. Their closest family (including us) live 2-3 hours away, so we are doing our best to help from a distance. Colby's parents are in assisted living and live out of state.
