Big day today hopefully we finally get the answers we need as Tom will have his PET scan this am. This will determine how we move forward finally. Fingers crossed. Hopefully we hear something by Wednesday unless Nurse Tobin stalks his chart sooner. We love you Tom! 10/19
Happy Wednesday! While Tom is sleeping receiving his chemo I figured I owed everyone an update as it's been a while. As our Dr. put it recently Tom is an outlier. His most recent labs showed us promising numbers however there is still some type of tumor or scar tissue that is on the liver it is good that it hasn't grown but strange it hasn't gotten smaller. Either way it has to go. That puts us in a tricky situation we have had an MRI that didn't give us the answers the Drs. needed so he will now have a PET Scan to see where the cancer is exactly. The next step would be to try and get rid of the tumor/scar tissue. His Oncologist, Radiologist Oncologist and Surgeon met last week and will meet again after this PET Scan to see what they want to do it could be sever short targeted radiation treatment or they will laproscopically go in and get it or maybe both. After this potentially if the results are good we could go on a maintenance for the chemo for a while. A lot up in the air and decisions to be made. For the most part he feels ok most days nausea unfortunately most days and chemo brain is definitely a thing! And I think it is rubbing off on me. I apologize I have not been able to keep up with messages and people who check in life is just a bit overwhelming between my business Kerri Fly , I have gone back to subbing, the boys crazy schedules they live the good like lol and Tom every day is an adventure. This does not mean we don't appreciate the checkins or messages there just isn't enough hours in my day. On a bright note Tom's Department Norwood Police Department held Tom's clapout recently and it was beautiful. Quite the send off after 26 years. We don't know what will hold in his next chapter but we are so grateful he is still here to have one. I will update once we have more info after the next scan. Thank you all for your support.
And just like that 26 years have gone by and you officially Retired!!! The boys and I are so incredibly proud of you. Especially in the last year what you fought through to get here you are a hero before, but you’re even more of one now. I have been with you for 13 of those years we got engaged, bought a house, got married, had two beautiful children and now our hardest time battle Pancreatic cancer. In the beginning we assumed we will just fight it and everything would go back to normal and unfortunately that wasn’t the case but the one thing about policemen is it’s a brotherhood and they take care of each other I could talk about some of the crazy things I’ve heard from Tom the last 13 years but my favorite one is to see how they all banded together when he needed them the most. I’m sure the guys will all miss his making breakfast in the morning his overnight crockpot meals I guess I get to experience that now. Boys your dad is a real life hero. We are blessed that it is our turn now to have him to ourselves. Tom I told you yesterday you were a cop, you are a cop and will always be one. No one can take your years of service away. We love you, we’re proud of you and thank you for being such an amazing example for our children.
I can’t believe one year ago today we were given the most devastating news. We went in for a stomach ache, and what comes next you see it happen in movies and tv but when it’s happening in real life it’s like everything stops. I thought for sure there was a mistake and there was not. My first thought was how do we tell the kids how do you prepare to break hearts you take the best care of. I had a million questions. That was such a scary moment that’s in the back of my mind every single day. I knew we would get the best doctors and fight this as hard as we could but what would unfold over the next few months would have broken 99% of the people but not my husband. After surviving the hardest Whipple surgery he was out of bed next day. Tom, your courage, strength, fight, belief is what kept our family going. As we mark this first year we will continue to fight this with everything we’ve got. You are so loved and supported. You have a whole army of people that love and support you behind you. Cancer had no idea who they were messing with that day. I love you so much. We got this!
