A Little Update From Me
I wanted to finally write an update myself and just say thank you.
The kids and I are managing. I don’t really know how else to say it. We are taking this hour by hour, day by day.
This heartbreak is painful in a way I don’t think I could have ever understood or prepared for before living inside of it. Vera was such a bright light in our everyday life. She was in everything we did. The little routines, the laughs around the house, the food we ate, the special places we went, the way our house felt with her in it. There is just a huge void where she used to be.
So every day, the kids and I try to do at least one little thing to remember her and honor her.
Sometimes that means getting ice cream.
Sometimes we go pet horses.
Sometimes it’s Mexican food because Vera loved that.
Coffee and hot chocolate and talks.
A walk down one of her favorite paths with our dogs.
Sometimes we just sit around, look at pictures until it gets too hard, talk about Mommy, and laugh about something she did.
Nothing huge. Just little things that keep her with us and remind the kids that we don’t have to stop loving her just because we can’t see her anymore.
And through all of this, the outpouring of love and support from everyone has been incredible.
The donations, the meals, the messages, the prayers, people checking on the kids, people checking on me, people sharing Vera’s story — all of it has been so powerful, helpful, and comforting during the hardest time of our lives.
There are moments when I honestly don’t know how we are going to do this, and then something small happens. A message comes through. Someone drops something off. Someone tells me a story about Vera. And it reminds me that we aren’t walking through this alone.
I am so grateful to every single one of you.
Truly.
Thank you for loving Vera.
Thank you for loving our kids.
Thank you for helping us keep moving forward when some days moving forward feels super impossible.
We love you all.
And we love you, Vera.
One hour at a time. ❤️
