<div>Antigo Visual Arts is proud to honor the life and legacy of our dear friend and president, <strong>Joe Hermolin</strong>. He was a mentor, a leader, and a tireless advocate for the arts and history of our community. His thoughtful presence and commitment helped shape our organization and the greater Langlade County arts and history scene.

<div>But memorializing Joe's impact isn't all about him - he wouldn't have liked that much anyway. This project is about community, art, and human connection. By creating this forever bench, we continue his work of community leadership and outdoor appreciation, plus lean into his advocacy for art, history, science, and kindness.

<div>Joe dedicated countless hours to community development in his adopted home, Antigo Wisconsin. You name it, Joe was likely involved, from the Museum to the Library, supporting the Farmer's Market and the Antigo Bike &amp; Ski Club. Before his "second career" as a historian, he was a biologist. <div>We’ve commissioned Wisconsin artist <a href="https://www.teresalind.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Teresa Lind</a> (teresalind.com) , to design and create a one-of-a-kind bench in Joe’s memory. It'll be about Joe, and about us, the community. He would've loved this.

<div>My name is Joan Adams.

<div>I lived in Togo, West Africa when I served in the Peace Corps.
</div>
<div>I return to Togo every summer to drill fresh water wells.
</div>
<div>Clean water is sorely lacking in most Togolese villages.
</div>
<div>I hope to build more wells every summer, money is my biggest constraint.
</div>
<div>I have self-funded this endeavor for years.
</div>
<div>It's simple math - more money = more wells!!
</div>
<div>It's that time of year again - fundraising time.
</div>
<div>With more money, we can buy equipment (not rent).
</div>
<div>Renting equipment in Lomé and hauling it up country is expensive. And then of course - we have to bring the equipment back to Lomé.
</div>
<div>With our own rig - we can leave it up country, because it's ours!
</div>
<div>We will train local Togolese to do some of the well drilling work.
</div>
<div>With all this - we can drill more than 2 wells a summer!
</div>

He is working so hard in school, on the football field and volunteering in the community.  He’s a wonderful kid &amp; has not seen his family in almost 2 years. Join us in celebrating 16 years of chess at PS 139 in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn! <strong>DONATE $16 or more to help our public school chess team get to the 2019 Elementary Nationals in Nashville, Tennessee!</strong><br />We need 100 donors to help us meet our minimum goal of $1,600 during March. Larger donations will help us double that goal to $3,200.  <br /><br />As a Title I school, every year is a fundraising challenge met with goodwill and hard work.  We raise funds for our chess club through bake sales, movie night fundraisers, and most importantly, through individual donations. Thanks to the generous support from donors, last year's PS 139 team members won:<br /><br />* 1st place at the May 2018 NYC Mayor's Cup<br />* 2nd place in the Elementary Intermediate and K5 Intermediate sections at the NY State Championships<br />* 3rd place in the K-5 Under 1200 and 6th place in the K5 Championship at the 2018<br /><br />Chess teaches analytical and creative thinking skills. Kids also learn good sportsmanship, teamwork, and helps them build resiliency by overcoming setbacks. These are valuable life skills that will help them beyond the game.
