<div>Originally, we had planned to save up our respective money to fund a one-way plane ticket to the Southwest, where I live, but a few months ago, Jackie's home has lost power. The electricity bill had been neglected for months, accumulating $4000 in debts, and it is uncertain whether the family will lose the house again. Jackie has been able to find temporary housing with their grandparents, as well as a job, but the new house is in a horrible state of clutter and infestation.

<div>I am sorry to be coming to you all like this. As the majority know, Dragoneer passed away on August 6th. I have been asked to keep Fur Affinity going in his stead. I will be honest. It is terrifying. I've lost my best friend. Someone that I always thought would be there for me and lift me up. The grief is monumental, and this was not a position I ever thought we would be in.

<div>I know that Dragoneer wanted Fur Affinity to keep going after his passing. And that is exactly what we want to make sure happens. But we cannot do it on our own. We are calling on the community to come together during this hard time to keep our online home going. Not just for ourselves but for everyone else that considers FA as such. He was a good man and always put the community before himself. He would rather go into debt or go without than let FA close. He knew what it meant to the community. So many people still rely on Fur Affinity. It's where many of us started out nearly two decades ago. People have built friendships, relationships, families, communities, and careers on FA.

<div>We are also here to ask for assistance for his mother, Rita. She has been going through such a difficult time. Dragoneer's father passed away two years ago, she recently lost her sister, and now her only son has also passed. She is devastated. I have known her for 14 years, and never once has she asked for any kind of help... but she needs it now.

<div>We need help covering a variety of unforeseen expenses: the medical bills left behind, funeral costs (there will be a private family and public celebration of life), and making sure Rita has the means to get by while she manages his affairs. The initial goal was met in THREE HOURS and DOUBLED within 48 hours. Though we have to admit, we did make a mistake when adding up the costs on the original post. We set it at $75k, but then someone pointed out that we made a mistake with the math. We checked it again, and sure enough, the total of the listed expenses was actually $92.6k. But regardless, we still hit AND surpassed that goal overnight! Many of us were in tears, including Rita and myself. She especially just cannot thank you all enough, and neither can I. It is truly heartwarming and something to celebrate during this difficult time.

As a team we are working hard to make progress on sorting everything while continuing to serve the Fur Affinity community. Individually, we still need to take time to try to catch up on some much needed rest and make sure we are taking care of ourselves too. Speaking for myself, I know I have been on the phone pretty much from the moment I wake up until I eventually knock out for the night. It’s been exhausting trying to sort all of this out, but this has been such an inspiring and humbling moment. I hope that Neer can see how many of you have come together to keep things going and take care of his mom and the community he worked so hard to nurture.

<div>As we continue to sort through the finances, we have unfortunately found more debts. We have added what we’ve found so far to the total. To continue being transparent, we’ve also included a quick explanation for why each one has been added. I hope we can keep pushing forward together on this. We don’t know what the future will hold. But right now, we feel optimistic and eager to not only keep Fur Affinity going but also secure its future through this transition. Dragoneer put his all into making sure our community went back to being independent. Unfortunately, the debt and burden are large because of it. <div>As we continue to go through and audit Dragoneer's personal and business finances, we will continue to update. The goal is to cover as much as we can so that Rita has nothing to worry about and Fur Affinity has a clean slate moving forward. If Rita encounters any road bumps or further legal fees through any of this, we will give the funding to her first. Excess funding will be saved in an emergency backup fund to cover unexpected expenses such as hardware issues, surprise bills, etc. We will be transparent about where the excess goes if there is any, but the goal is to keep our community safe from any surprises and out of debt.

<div>One thing we have seen people raise concern about, and we do want to address, is why fundraising is also going to Dragoneer's debts. The legal process includes selling off the assets of the estate to pay for any outstanding debts. Unfortunately, Fur Affinity is an asset. To be clear, we have no plans nor desire to sell Fur Affinity. As such we need to pay those debts off to keep our community running.

<div>Heya recently I was offered a chance to move to North Carolina. I was out of home for about 17 days in total. I was offered help and housing in that area but things fell through. Due to some timing, things with my cat I ended up deciding to return to Texas.

<div>I have found that in the time I was gone that my body had adjusted to living in a cleaner space. As such I've had intense chest pain, poor eye sight (seeing spots), and breathing has been very difficult. These along with the emotional distress of the situation have left me unable to perform my job as an artist to make the money I usually make.

<div>I have not been able to function, I have not been able to clean or work out without coughing up a lung, and I can hardly focus at the moment unless I sit outside for a long while. The mental health help I've gotten can't even be paid for properly.

<div>I have been advised to simply move and use this gofundme for that. However apartments in my area all require paystubs, which as an artist I am unable to provide. I'm aware I can make my own but the apartments have no employer to call and check with.

<div>So the plan is to either fix up my living arrangement as best as I can. Flooring, walls, tub, &amp; uhaul to reclaim my things from the failed move.

<div>Mold everywhere, floor and walls are falling apart, the bath tub is sinking into the ground, bug and rat infestation, water damage everywhere, the outlets leak a brown stuff when used, there is no heating, the oven does not work, the fridge develops mold and does not close properly, it also leaks, the ceiling sags every time it rains, we're in the middle of a forest surrounded by coyotes and the like, hicks are constantly outside shooting guns for fun or causing other noises, the AC hardly works and we're in a heat wave every other week. Texas in general is just straight up bad for me to be in due to my medical and mental health needs.

For 4 years, Featured Players Cabaret has been an up-and-coming venue in the Dothan area.  Originally started as a performing arts bar, welcoming local musicians, actors, comedians, cosplayers, etc. we soon found ourselves a home for many marginalized groups in the Dothan. Basically, if you don't fit in anywhere else around here, you could find a home at Featured Players.  And now, more than ever, people who feel left out and alone need a hangout they can call their own.<br /><br />January 2020, we had our most successful month of all time. This was a place on the rise and clearly, what we were doing was working.  We were on the brink of realizing a vision that would give Dothan something unique and special....  but then, tragedy struck.<br /><br />As everyone knows, the world shut down in March 2020, and will remain so until at least May 15, but probably longer. Featured Players has been hanging in there doing take-out only, but for a place built on community and events, take-out can only do so much. <br /><br />To make matters worse, recent tornado-winds that passed through the city completely destroyed our brand new sign, which we hung just before New Years. It was a symbol of a new era at FP... now it's appropriately enough, a symbol of people hanging on, weathering the storm, no matter how worse for the wear we are. <br /><br />We have applied for Stimulus through the various SBA loans recently made available by the government. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, we have not met the qualifications to receive aid.  That's okay though, Featured Players has always been community-driven, so now we're reaching out to the community for help.<br /><br />If you love FP and what it stands for, we hope you'll throw in a few dollars to help keep us around for the people that need us. The money requested will be used to replace the damaged sign, catch up on any deferred bills that will come due once shutdown ends, pay for our annual licenses and fees (which we normally save up for months to pay) and various other odds and ends.  <br /><br />So that's our story.... we believe in Featured Players, we hope you do too.
