Hi, all! I have been working on the prologue and themes of Uka, as well as tuning the lacings of character arcs through the story. I also spent the past few days researching, writing, and editing. I appreciate your patience! Onward!
Hi, everyone! I spent the past three days working on two chapters. Researching, writing, and editing. Onward!
Novel Title Reveal: Uka The title "Uka" was born on the same day as the concept for the novel. It has always been the title and is the permanent title of my novel.
Today, I worked on a chapter that had been gelling in the story. Wild creatures, an exotic location, and a desperate protagonist burned slowly into my computer like smoldering incense. A king cobra, an angry man, and an eternal sea stack are scuttled in a typhoon. As an author, I feel like a mighty little man. To quote Steven Michael Burns: "Nobody else is stronger than I am Yesterday I moved a mountain"
I wrote a prologue today for six hours. First draft, so it will probably change. It has the kernel of what I want to convey, though. It is set in 1895. A curious and regal man from a great, snowy land has been visiting a Dayak group native to northwestern Borneo. Laguage and culture were barriers that both he and the natives struggled to overcome. He is acccused of impropriety and held as a prisoner, which ignites a stealthy escape and a feverish hunt for the man.
