<div>it’s now the last day of august, 2023. i spent nine days of this month hospitalised with sepsis and a kidney infection and upon my return to work i learned of two visits from the nyc department of buildings, amounting to three major citations with fines potentially reaching into the tens of thousands of dollars. today i was visited a third time, but what was different was that i was in the shop and able to speak to the inspector face-to-face.

<div>i learned a very important fact that has everything falling into place: all of these DoB visits have stemmed from multiple anonymous complaints filed to 311, which means that there is at least one person out there who is specifically out to get us. these are no easy violations to amend, they’re very in-the-weeds complaints, demonstrating that whoever is calling these in knows the ins and outs of the city bureaucracy and is weaponising it against us. also noteworthy is the fact that these complaints all come from the last three weeks; three weeks ago is when department of transportation started removing the parking spots from this block and began building the new protected bike lane that we had at least a small part in instigating.

<div>i’m gonna be real, this has me scared and shook. i can imagine off the top of my head at least two business interests on this block who have the knowledge and power to levy these complaints against me and they are monied and deeply-embedded in gowanus. what gives me solace, however, is knowing that i’m not in this alone and that i have so many people on my side. and that is what brings me back here to this platform.

<div>fall is traditionally the best season for nyc cafes, but even so i don’t think the shop will naturally pull in enough money to cover these impending costs:

<div>I've been tirelessly bootstrapping the hell out of this project. I've made it quite far already, but the whole space sits at about 85% done, and I'm now running on financial fumes; my initial savings are depleted, my credit card is maxed tf out, and there are <em>still</em> a few more things to button up. My initial plan was to super slow-roll the rest of the buildout, using whatever monthly profits I may have, but that would take <em>at least</em> a few months. So many people have encouraged me to come to this platform cuz they've got funds burning a hole in their pockets that they wanna put to good use, so here we are.

<div>I dunno if it's the inner American in me or the inner Marine, but I've been hellbent on doing as much of this singlehandedly as I possibly can. <div><strong>Some Backstory</strong>

<div>Many of you know the story thus far, but to get everyone on the same page, I dreamed the idea for Principles in the summer of 2020 and moved into our space in Gowanus in May 2022. Nearly my entire life has been spent in and around service work. I was an only child raised by a single mom working at various times as a bartender and waitress. My first job was working with her at a diner during my freshman year of high school. Since then, I've spent more time than not working in foodservice, with brief stints in the military and the academy. In 2015 I moved to NYC for grad school and in 2017, burnt out and stuck with a master's degree that I couldn't return for a refund, I switched careers into the life of a barista. I've been here ever since.

<div>After getting unceremoniously laid off with the rest of working-class NYC in early 2020, I decided to return to life's drawing board and reimagine my future. I loved working as a barista and I quite disliked knowing that my labour was going towards building someone else's brand, and it was with that passion that Principles was born. I took advantage of all the veteran business resources afforded me and started the herculean process of getting here. Throughout 2021 I saved all the money I could, began making and selling merch, applied for all the institutional funding I could find, borrowed money from some much more financially stable friends, and by the end of the year I thought I had enough in my coffers to start looking for a permanent space for Principles. As it turned out, finding a space that was within my budget, an appropriate size, not too near another cafe, and with a landlord who was comfortable taking a risk on a first-time business was quite the task. Still, I kept at it and got into this quirky little hovel in May 2022. Everyone told me that building out would take six months at least, but I knew I couldn't afford for it to take so long. Instead, I burned the candle at both ends and got to a space of being operational in about six weeks.

<div>Now, having been mostly functional for the better part of the last month, I'm able to pretend like we're A Real Cafe, but this space needs a bit more work done on the inside, which is why I have brought you all here today. The sooner we can get the space to tip top shape, the sooner Principles can host myriad events and shindigs and come into herself as the wonderful gathering space we all know she can be.

<div><strong>Now the hard part</strong>

<div>Here's the fun and daunting section, laying out what needs to be done. It's scary to think about cuz there's so much left to do and without enough help it could take ages to get done. From that perspective it's frightening as hell. On the other hand, we have five fingers and the optimistic vision to see the future and fantasise what everything in this space will be like when it's done.

<div>The space currently has one functional bathroom and another one that is halfway done. We need to procure a toilet and sink and then it's ready. <strong>Second bathroom completion estimate: $1000.</strong>

<div>Next is to erect a staircase to the roof. There's a finished roof above us that has such gorgeous views! When I first viewed the space there was a spiral staircase up to it, but when officially I got the keys the staircase had disappeared. lolol. <strong>Staircase to roof completion estimate: $2500.</strong>

<div>After that is building a modest stage in the back for all of the sweet, sweet shows that we're gonna host. I think it will also be really fun to let the stage double as extra seating for all the day-to-day hours of the shop. <strong>Stage buildout estimate: $2000.</strong>

<div>Winter is eventually coming and anyone who has been in the space has noticed the gaping maw of a front entrance. closing the whole steel gate during the winter months will be quite ominous and dreary. I want to add a second roll-up gate made of glass so that we can open the steel gate but close the glass gate and have the benefit of warmth and a great view when it's cold. <strong>New front rolling glass gate estimate: $5000.</strong>

Aesthetically, the boxy nature of the space lends well to creating a few side rooms. Practically, I've heard from so many people who would love to have a private space within a cafe to rent out for solo or group meetings. <strong>Private office room buildout estimate: $2000.</strong>

<div>Having said all that, I'll set an initial fundraising goal of $12,500. Anything raised above that will go towards furniture (this space needs so very much of it) and lighting (during the day, the natural lighting is idyllic, but at night there are only fluorescent lights; they're atrocious and <em>not</em> the vibe I'm going for).

<div>Unfortunately, after many years of being cancer-free, Claire has now been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. 
</div>

<div>She initially noticed lumps in her armpit, so we returned from PA to NYC, so she could get right to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center for diagnosis. Examination via needle biopsies came back malignant.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>A PET scan identified a smattering of malignancies in Claire's lower spine, chest wall, one lung, neck, and base of her skull.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>A subsequent head MRI showed five tumors in her brain, one of which is large--and pressing on her left temporal lobe. Another medium-sized tumor is pressing on her occipital lobe, and somewhat interfering with her vision. 
</div>

</div>
<div>Claire is scheduled for brain surgery on Wednesday morning to remove the two big tumors--and she's also participating in a wonderful and promising research study to treat and shrink brain tumors with targeted, innovative chemotherapy.
</div>

<div>Claire is also under the direct care of her original oncologist from 7 years ago, Dr. Gabriella D'Andrea, who is remote managing Claire's care from Basking Ridge, NJ--until a local Manhattan doctor can take over the course of care.

<div>This is a lot to take in. The doctors are hopeful. This cancer is not curable, but very much treatable. Claire is a FIGHTER, and is resigned to kick Cancer's ass.

<div>The short of it is that Meg needs to have surgery on 6/11/24 to have her uterus and one of her ovaries removed.  I know!  It is a BIG deal!  I will share more details below, but what it comes down to is that Meg's womb is SO full of fibroids that the whole thing IS basically a mass of fibroids.  A recent MRI showed there is no uterine tissue, muscle, or lining left because it has all been taken over (the womb/fibroid mass is the size of a 7 month pregnancy and stretches 6 inches above her navel).  Meg's right ovary also has a 7cm (the size of a BASEBALL!!!) cyst on it and therefore will also have to be removed.

<div>Meg is so many things to so many of us....friend, teacher, soul sister, artist, singer, spiritual companion, daughter, sister, wife, and all around radiant BEING are just some of the words one can use to describe the ways we are connected to her.  Meg gives and she gives A LOT, because she believes in sharing what we know with each other and because it is who she IS.  This is a time that Meg could use our support in a way that she hasn't had to or asked to receive before.  The practice of her far reaching community offering her our support, financially as well as emotionally and spiritually, as well Meg opening herself up in a vulnerable way to receive this kind of support will, I believe, be something that we as a collective will feel the power and connection of in a truly deep way.  What a beautiful thing to ask and to receive and to truly BE there for each other.

<div>Meg has dreamed of bringing a biological child of her own into this world for a very long time.  This is why, after her first miscarriage in 2014 and the subsequent discovery of the uterine fibroids, she has tried to heal her body without surgery and with natural and alternative modalities for years since then.  In some meaningful ways, Meg's symptoms have improved with these treatments, but in the end Meg arrived at a knowing that something more had to be done.  She was and is tired of being in pain.  Sometimes enough is enough.  Meg is ready for radical change and to actually feel GOOD!

<div>Meg will be having surgery in Seattle, at Swedish Medical, where she ended up finding a great team of doctors after enduring years of less than stellar treatment, to put it mildly, from the medical establishment.  Her current doctor has told Meg that she has never seen a womb like hers and will never forget it.  What a compliment (insert ironic and also heartfelt laughter....because all is connected)!!!!

<div>After surgery, Meg will stay at a friend's house in the area for a chunk of time before returning to her home in Eastern Washington.  Meg and her husband Charley live remotely and pretty off grid, so she'll only be able to return home to him and their pups when it feels in alignment with her post-surgery recovery.  The biggest financial need Meg and her family will have will be to cover living expenses for both of them (Meg is the primary financial earner and will need to take a month off to focus on recovery).  Some funds will also be used to cover the out of pocket expenses for the actual surgery and any needed follow up appointments.  The rest of the funds raised will be used to go toward finishing the bathhouse on their property in Eastern Washington so that bathing can be done with ease when Meg does return home.

This outrageous fabrication has led to my eviction, as the management decided to prioritize their claims without providing me with an opportunity to present my side of the story. A new Karen moved in and also complained because my dog barked at her dog. But the story she told management was my dog was unhinged and tried to kill get dog.

<div>Those who know my dog can attest to his friendly and loving nature. He’s reactive and barks at other dogs. He has never attacked or harmed any dogs or humans. I have paid for extensive training to help him, but he’s still working on it.  Everyone in this building knows him, knows he’s all bark and no bite, except these two Karens who’s accusations made against him are baseless and fueled by personal biases.Unfortunately, without proper investigation or due process, my beloved Lil Guy has been labeled as a threat, causing him and me immense distress.

<div>Financially, this happened at the worst time possible. Any savings I had just went to pay my sons college bill that was outstanding. <div>On Saturday, May 6th, Cindy, Kyu, William and James Cho visited the Allen outlet mall together in North Texas. William just celebrated his 6th birthday 4 days prior and James is 3. An afternoon that should have been filled with light, love and celebration unfortunately was cut short by another mass shooting massacre that left 8 victims dead. Cindy, Kyu and three year old James were among those victims that tragically lost their lives and the family is in deep mourning. After being released from the ICU, their six year old son William is the only surviving member of this horrific event.

We’ve brought over 10,000 pounds of products for humanitarian aid to Kharkiv and evacuated around 50 adults, 10 kids, 3 dogs and 2 cats and a pair of guinea pigs.

<div>We are Gene Volchenko, Aleksandr Ostapenko and Ruslan Zinchenko, a group of former marine college roommates, former merchant marines, currently concerned Ukrainians a “Good Samaritans” who strive to provide aid directly to people of Ukraine in Crisis . We are from different cities of Ukraine. But we are united in one goal- find a way to help, even if we are not physically there.

<div><em>Gene Volchenko</em>, formerly a merchant marine, grew up in Kharkiv, studied in Kherson (Kherson Marine College and Odessa (Odessa State Marine Academy). Moved to Chicago in 1999 after the Soviet Union collapsed and after Ukraine declared its independence and started a journey to establish democratic lifestyle.

<div><em>Alex Ostapenko</em>, formerly a merchant marine, grew up in Kakhovka, studied in Kherson (Kherson Marine College). Moved to Kyiv and opened Businessclarity organization to help companies automate and manage their P&amp;L, investment and overall business affairs.

<div><em>Ruslan Zinchenko,</em> formerly a merchant marine, grew up in Dnepropetrovsk, studied in Kherson (Kherson Marine College) and Kiyv Polytechnic University. Stayed in Kiyv and worked as chief electrical architect in many local organizations designing electrical solutions for complex industrial and civil projects.

<div>So far Gene has invested over $10,000 of his own money, but we need more to keep this team running. We’ve also raised over $30,000, but we’re not stopping here.

<div>After five trips, we are not stopping. With each trip, we learn of more crises: elderly starving in their homes, kids and cancer patients unable to escape without a proper transport system (ambulance); doctors running out of basic medical supplies, scalpels, sutures, needles, bandages, etc.

<div>Federico Garduño, father, husband, and a best friend to me and to pretty much everyone who met him, died last week in a tragic accident. He was visiting his family in his hometown of Annapolis.
</div>

<div>My name is Dan, and I met Fed twenty years ago, in the spring of 2002 as part of a sketch writing group. His head was half-shaved in some sort of avant-garde attempt at a mohawk. He was wearing unsettlingly small sweatpants and a patterned sweater that looked to be from 1988. Also, way too small. He seemed to me like he might be a poorly thought-out villain in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic. I was kind of afraid of him. And then we all read the sketch he brought to that first meeting, and I was instantly taken over. I knew then that Fed was the funniest person I had ever met and would probably ever know. That still holds true.

<div>Fed was the funniest and smartest person in any room he was in. He had an astonishing ability to come up with just the smartest, goofiest jokes on a dime and deliver them like they were nothing. Jokes that would make you laugh and leave you shaking your stupid head because, how did he do it? Again and again and again. I still remember a time when we were walking on 33rd Street and I had to stop because he’d just said something so absolutely, otherworldly funny. I actually asked him how he does it. And he replied with a “what are you talking about?” Because for him the joke was already gone into the ether and it was time to move onto the next. He had performed stand up for years, and wrote here and there for some online publications, but he really shined as an improviser. He performed all over the city, with his longest tenure at The Magnet Theater. He truly loved all of his fellow performers. They meant the world to him.

<div>Fed was a teacher. He would hate to be defined and remembered for what he held down as a job. But he found his home off the stage at MS447 in Brooklyn. His interactions with the students brought him real happiness. We all have those special teachers that we remember into adulthood. Fed was one of those.
</div>

<div>Above everything else, Fed loved his family so so much. He loved and admired his parents and his sisters. It was clear he came from an incredibly loving family (that was doused with a heavy dose of acerbic wit).
</div>

<div>As for his wife Mindy, he had never fallen in love with someone until he met her. This is something he told me again and again. He was in a dark place when they met, and she turned everything around for him. He would call me just to tell me how happy he was with her in his life. And then he would ask me if that was normal, just to make sure he wasn’t losing his mind. He knew how absolutely lucky he was to have Mindy as a wife and partner in life.
</div>

<div>And then came his son Iggy. Before Iggy was born, Fed confided to me that he was scared. He couldn’t see himself as being able to do the things a good dad does, that he couldn’t see himself caring about toddler stuff and having to hang out with other parents at a playground. It’s a pretty typical feeling. For once, Fed was completely wrong. He loved being a dad more than anything in the world, and he was such an exceptional one. It’s impossible to overstate how loving and caring and fun he was with his son.

<div>Obviously, there was so much more to Fed than can be said here, he was such a good man. But I would like to mention a couple more things.
</div>

<div>First his love of all animals and nature. Included in this were his beloved dog Nacho, his less beloved, but still very loved Noelle, BunBun, David Bowie, newcomer Buttercup. He even loved the demon spawned Mike.
</div>

<div>Second: Fed lived in the moment—sometimes to the utter consternation of those around him. He would absolutely hate how we are dwelling on him and how earnest all this is. I can hear him saying, “Yeah, this is good, but maybe consider cutting… all of it?”
</div>

<div>Fed would tell me he didn’t see himself as someone who desperately needed to make a room full of people laugh. He much more enjoyed huddling up with one person to tell them jokes. In a bar. At a party. Watching TV. And, yes, hanging out at a playground. I was so blessed and lucky to be one of those people for 20 years. And I know that everyone else who got to be that person at some point feels the same. Oh, and there was a reason for that get-up and insane hairstyle he was wearing when we first met. Please ask me about it sometime and we can share our memories of Fed and have a laugh.

My mother, Hyun Jung Grant( maiden name Kim), was one of the victims of the shootings in Atlanta, Georgia at Gold Spa. This is something that should never happen to anyone. She was a single mother who dedicated her whole life to providing for my brother and I. It is only my brother and I in the United States. The rest of my family is in South Korea and are unable to come. She was one of my best friends and the strongest influence on who we are today. Losing her has put a new lens on my eyes on the amount of hate that exists in our world. As much as I want to grieve and process the reality that she is gone, I have a younger brother to take care of and matters to resolve as a result of this tragedy. Frankly, I have no time to grieve for long. I will need to figure out the living situation for my brother and I for the next few months, possibly year. As of now I have been advised to move out of my current home within the end of March to save money and find a new place to live. My biggest priority right now is to put my mother to rest and plan out the funeral but due to some legal complications, I am unable to obtain my mother's body. I don't think I'll be able to figure out this whole situation along with legal matters if given 2 weeks to move out. Any donation will be used as funds for basic living necessities for my brother and I such as food, bills, and other expenses. I wish to stay in my current home for at least one more month to sort everything out. Any amount would be forever appreciated. Please everyone just stay safe and check up on your friends and loved ones that may feel endangered.

<span style="color:rgb(51,51,51);">Hi everyone, I am fundraising for my grandmother that was racially attacked today on 3-17-21 market street. I am amazed by her bravery. She was the one that defended herself from this unprovoked attack. But she is now suffering two serious black eyes and one that is bleeding unstoppably. Her wrist has also swelled up. She has been severely affected mentally, physically, and emotionally. She also stated that she is afraid to step out of her home from now on. This traumatic event has left her with PTSD. Although she has health insurance that covers the basics, there are still many medical expenses that cannot be covered on her own. She is a cancer survivor and she also has had diabetes for over 10 years now. The funds that we receive will be used to cover her medical expenses, her therapy treatment, and her bills that we will have to pay constantly from now on. We want to thank everyone that is donating and that has shown my family massive support through this very traumatic event. My heart is with all the other elderly asians that has also been seriously injured or killed in this wave of attacks towards the asian community.</span>

Greetings, My name is Ashanti Smith; I am a 28-year-old African American woman who lives in the Washington DC metropolitan  area. I recently was assaulted, attacked and harassed by a group of Trump supporters on Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington DC on January 5th, 2021. A video has surfaced where I was surrounded by a group of Trump extremists, and I honestly feared for my life. The video makes me look like I am the aggressor, but it does not show what happened prior to my defending myself. People shoved me, tried to take my phone and keys, yelled racial epithets at me, and tried to remove my mask. I asked them to social distance and stay out of my personal space due to COVID 19. They refused, and I was afraid of being hurt and harmed. After being assaulted, I defended myself. I am now facing criminal charges along with being relieved from my employment pending an investigation. Which places me in a hardship situation at the moment. I am asking for support and help with funds for my legal fees and to maintain the essential things that I need to survive during this time. Help Ashanti With Legal Fees

Laura is a young, healthy and vibrant 31 year old woman living in New York City. She works for a small non-profit garden in Manhattan. She is also a performer and writer for sketch comedy teams. She loves being outside and spending time with her friends and niece. She brings laughter and so much fun wherever she goes. She is a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and dear friend to so many people. She is known for her outrageous humor, big personality and unique ability to make everyone laugh.<br /><br />She started to have some respiratory trouble for only a couple days and then was brought to a hospital in Worcester, MA while visiting her parents there. When she arrived at the hospital, she was admitted for pneumonia and COVID-19. On the 3rd or so day of experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, she was soon intubated and put on a ventilator. Her health deteriorated very rapidly due to the virus, and she went into acute respiratory failure. She was transferred to a different hospital in Boston, MA  via helicopter.  She was able to survive the flight. She has now settled in at the new Boston hospital, where they have begun ECMO treatment for her. ECMO is extracorporeal membrane oxygenation which will provide extra support for her lungs, in addition to the ventilator.<br /><br />Since she is COVID-19 positive, she is quarantined. Her family and friends cannot visit her. The distance they must spend apart during this time is especially heartbreaking. We would give anything to just hold her hand and tell her how much we love her and to keep fighting. We know she can hear our prayers, though.<br /><br />She continues to fight this virus, and we continue to pray for her full recovery. <br /><br />I am Laura's sister. All funds withdrawn will be provided to Laura to cover her medical and recovery costs. We expect them to likely be thousands per day. No donation is too small. Of course, on the frontlines of efforts to protect us from this pandemic are the healthcare workers and the first responders. They're feeling pressures right now of which most of us are unaware. <br /><br />As well, small businesses, particularly locally owned restaurants, are facing financial pressures as Brooklyn self-isolates to slow the spread of COVID-19. They’ve had to lay off workers, their revenues have dropped, or they've shuttered their doors completely. But many are still rolling by converting their operations to full-time takeout &amp; delivery service.<br /><br />We will work to help address both of these challenges, fueled by your tax-deductible donation.<br /><br />It started as Operation Pizza, Vito Randazzo, owner of 15-year-old Graziella's Italian Restaurant at 232 Vanderbilt Ave, inviting customers to order pizzas for delivery to staff at Brooklyn Hospital, then Michael Thompson, owner of 25-yr-old Brooklyn Moon Cafe at 745 Fulton St, joined in offering delivery of his Caribbean/Soul food, all under the guidance of Lenny Singletary, Brooklyn Hospital VP for External Affairs. <br /><br />We’ve now expanded that initial outreach through Brooklyn for Life!, an initiative managed by Brooklyn NY for Life!, Inc. The mission is to get my city and the world, actively involved in supplying the residents of Flint, Michigan with clean drinking water as a result of the contamination, and keeping the world aware of this ongoing crisis.<br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/30869074_1568333039460136_r.jpeg" alt="30869074_1568333039460136_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br />I launched the #SaveFlintChallenge in June 2018 and we continue to call on others to start their own GoFundMe campaigns or fundraisers in their neighborhoods to get more bottled water to Flint, Michigan. Thanks to amazing people from all over the world, we've raised over $180,000 so far to provide bottled water and assistance to Flint resident -- but we won’t stop here, because Flint still doesn't have clean water. The decision to switch the city of Flint’s drinking water source to the Flint River was pegged as a cost-cutting maneuver aimed at saving $5M over a two-year period.<br /><br />This community malpractice resulted in lead contamination in Flint's water, which poisoned tens of thousands of innocent people in this community.<br /><br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/30869074_156833028262610_r.jpeg" alt="30869074_156833028262610_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br />Researchers studying the Flint lead water crisis found a decrease in pregnancies, and an increase in fetal deaths among Flint women. Fertility rates dropped by 12% while fetal deaths rose by 58%. The water change is also responsible for an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease in the county that has killed 13 people and affected another 77.<br /><br />On April 6th, 2018, Governor. Rick Snyder announced the end of a free bottled water program in Flint, citing the water quality was acceptable, but that isn't the truth. The residents of Flint STILL struggle with unreliable drinking water, unless someone in the community like Little Miss Flint or Pastor Rob, provides it for them. Further investigation reveals the replacement of all the lead pipes necessary to provide clean water to Flint residents, won't be completed until 2020. <strong>Flint still doesn't have clean water.<br /></strong><br />Flint’s water service contract required the city complete a pipeline connecting it to the county’s water provider, Karegnondi Water Authority, by Dec. 31, 2019. It won’t be constructed by then because final designs for the project still haven’t been submitted.<br /><strong><br />Read more:</strong> <a href="https://t.co/lUCZec09nC" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://t.co/lUCZec09nC</a><br /><br /><strong>Fast Forward<br /></strong><br />This is where the #SaveFlintChallenge comes in. Our mission is simple, we're fundraising to provide clean drinking water for the residents of Flint. If we reach our goals this campaign will transform into a relief mission to assist other areas with providing clean water, and we will expand our agenda to address other important issues like education, mental health, gun violence, etc.<br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/30869074_1568329380227475_r.jpeg" alt="30869074_1568329380227475_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br /><strong>How the Funds Will Be Used</strong><br /><br />All funds will be personally withdrawn from our secured account, and donations received will be invested in maintaining this #SaveFlintChallenge campaign, our staff expenses and used to purchase bottled water from outlets we've chosen such as Meijer Grocery Store, BJ's Wholesale Club, CleanItSupply.com, Sam's Club, etc. &amp; shipped directly to Flint, Michigan. Securing trucks is our most complicated task. As mentioned in our very first campaign update, our bulk bottled water pallet cost is roughly 278.00 per pallet (54 cases per pallet, 35 bottles per case) including delivery. We will also be making donations to other water distribution organizations serving Flint, and assisting random residents.<br /><br />West Court Street Church of God in Flint, Michigan will be one of several drop off destinations selected. <div>The Warren County Board of Supervisors (BOS) continues down a destructive path that began in mid-2023 with book banning and has since escalated into an indefensible and unreasonable effort to dismantle Samuels Public Library—a cherished institution founded in 1799 and a 226-year-old cornerstone of our community and county partnership.

<div>Effective June 30, 2025, Samuels Public Library will no longer receive funding from Warren County, following a vote by the BOS. This decision will result in a devastating shortfall of over $1.024M.

<div>Donated funds will be used to secure legal services, cover administrative expenses—including FOIA requests—and support community outreach. Samuels Public Library, Inc. will receive any remaining funds to use at their discretion.
