<div>We’re reaching out on behalf of our dear friends Shana and David Pitawanakwat, who just experienced a devastating event.

<div>While camping at Samuel de Champlain Park, their site was hit by a sudden tornado. Their trailer, filled with years of memories, travel gear, and David’s cherished hunting and fishing equipment was destroyed.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thankfully, they are safe. David’s quick actions saved Shana’s life, and for that, we are deeply grateful.
</div>

</div>
<div>Nature had become a grounding force in their lives. David, an Odawa/Anishinaabe man, helped Shana fall in love with the land, something she never expected.
</div>

<div>Like many travelers, they never expected a storm like this. Without insurance, they’re now navigating an unexpected and difficult loss.

Help Shana & David Rebuild After Tornado Loss

Pempeople is an unfunded organisation, who have been delivering projects within the community.<br /> We have assisted many individuals and organisations to become more inclusive in delivering projects in the community.<br />From running a pop up shop  on Peckham high st, Ten Point5ive gallery on Rye Lane <br />To initiating the Livesey Exchange on Old Kent Road.<br />Our aim is to continue to support local organisations  community individuals  to continue to navigate through these hard times.<br />We will be looking at setting up the website, mailing list and putting in place the infrastructure and capacity, so  that we can support  more organisations and  community organisations.<img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/48539314_1591255079849183_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="48539314_1591255079849183_r.jpeg" />

The character was inspired by Paulette's mother and came to life in her one woman play titled <strong>‘Fashioning A Dream’</strong> where we first meet Miss Florence.  In this play, <strong>Miss Florence: Tales of The Windrush Nurses</strong> we are taken on a journey meeting Miss Florence prior to her arrival in the UK during the Windrush period, filled with dreams of becoming a nurse and serving the Commonwealth.<br /><br />Today Paulette is asking you to help her raise funds for <strong>The NHS, Windrush Nurses &amp; Beyond Foundation</strong> (a registered charity) and <strong>The Arts</strong> for the creative development of her original play. You can do this by making a donation on this page.  Any size of donation is hugely appreciated. <br /><br />To thank you for your donation, Paulette has shared a recording of her performance for a London Borough of Brent’s International Women’s Day event for you to view on this page at your leisure. <br /><br /><strong>How the raised funds will be distributed</strong><br />50% of the funding will go to the NHS Charities Together and to Windrush Nurse &amp; Beyond Foundation a registered charity that supports Windrush nurses and their families and 50% will be used to develop a play featuring the character of Miss Florence.<br /><br /><strong>The Play</strong><br />‘Fashioning A Dream’ is an inspirational play, which explores themes of the Windrush era, resilience, romance, domestic violence, single parenthood and most of all hope.  The play has previously had a ‘work in progress’ performance, which received great reviews.  Paulette is undertaking further development of the piece, including additional research and further writing all with a view to re-staging and touring the play once venues are reopened following the COVID 19 lockdown.<br /><br /><strong>The NHS</strong><br />NHS Charities Together is the umbrella organisation that brings together all the official charities of the NHS. In response to the COVID-19 emergency, it has launched an urgent appeal to support NHS staff, volunteers and patients.<br /><br /><strong>The Charity</strong><br />The Windrush Nurses &amp; Beyond Foundation (Charity Number 1152218) was founded by Bob Foster and Sandi Phillips in 2012 to both document and keep the legacy and contributions of the nurses from that era alive.
