<div>My name is Nela, and I am starting this fundraiser for my boyfriend, Gerson, the person who’s been my everything since the day we met.

<div>Gerson is 22 years old. He’s one of the most kind, humble, hard-working people I’ve ever known. And now he’s locked in an ICE detention center in Tacoma, WA, taken from his life, from me, and from everything he worked so hard to build.

<div>But this Saturday, everything changed.

<div>That morning, Gerson texted me that he was on his way to pick me up. It was supposed to be a normal day. But a few minutes later, he was surrounded by ICE officers near his car in Burien, WA.

<div>He has no criminal record, no previous deportation order, and no open charges. He’s just a young man who’s worked hard every single day, supported himself and his family in Guatemala, and dreamed of saving up to build a house back home someday.

<div>He’s never asked for anything, and now, I’m asking for him. Gerson is more than just a case number. He’s a kind, humble young man who has always put others first. He never complains, never stops trying.

<div>I wish I could do more on my own, but I’m not an American citizen. I’m here on a J-1 visa on an exchange program , and I don’t have the resources to pay for a lawyer or everything he needs in detention. That’s why I’m turning to this community for help.

<div>It breaks my heart that I have to see him behind a glass wall, like a stranger. I can’t even hug the person I love most in this world.

This house is all we have, and it's her dream home, shes in her 70s now and I have to take care of her. We dont have anywhere we can go if this falls apart. Please if you can, anything will help.

<div>Hello. I know so much is going on in the world right now, and everyone is at an all time low. So I don't expect much from this, but I wanted to try anyway. My parents have struggled financially ever since I was a child and a few years ago they got screwed over by our debt consolidator advisor and it's just gotten worse since then. With the government shutting down, we can't contact the IRS for help and we are being told we owe $32,000 immediately. And with every month we can't pay it off, we get more penalties. We can barely afford food, my mom might lose her job, and I am the ONLY one with a guarenteed paycheck. But I only make $13.50 an hour and I live paycheck to paycheck myself. No one in our area is hiring, one of our cars just broke down, and one thing after another just keeps falling apart. There is nothing we can collectively think of to get back on our feet, and we are quickly approaching rock bottom. So I know I'm one of the many voices shouting out asking for help, but we have no other choices. Stay safe everyone.
