<div>We are Shahad and Kholoud Albelbeisi, and we’re eighteen year old twin sisters from northern Gaza. We’re the third generation of our family born into occupation, and we have lived under the Israeli siege of Gaza since nearly the day we were born.

<div>Despite the challenges we have faced, our parents always believed that our education was the key to our future, and we have both worked hard our whole lives to achieve the highest grades in the hopes of studying abroad. Shahad hopes to have her own law firm one day, and Kholoud wants to be an engineer.

<div>For us, this was meant to be a year of dreams and perseverance when we would graduate from school and head to university.
</div>

</div>
<div>But after October 7, our year of dreams has become a year of nightmares, clinging to life as we walk amongst the dead. Our home in Gaza City was bombed by the Israeli army, and we fled on foot under fire from snipers.

<div>After losing nearly everything we loved - our home, our neighbourhood, so many friends and relatives - we have spent the last nine months on the run. We fled from Gaza City to Khan Younis, then to Rafah. And we have had to flee to assault on Rafah back to Khan Younis.

<div>Despite living this nightmare for nine months, we still dream of a better future, and of a day when we will receive our diplomas, head to university and make our dreams come true.

<div>Until that day comes, our dreams of the future give us hope. We will never give up on our dreams, but what we need most today is your financial support to help us survive this brutal and genocidal existence.

<div>My goal with transitioning has always been to keep my journey private, and/or share my experience with the people closest to me whilst working my hardest to finance my own affirming surgeries. This has been an ongoing rollercoaster for years. Gender affirming surgeries are beyond expensive, with little to no support from Medicare and other health institutions, making self actualisation unattainable unless born into financial support. Aside from working full-time, which only covers the basic living expenses, there aren’t many financial avenues for medically transitioning.

<div>The urgency for these lifesaving surgeries has become more and more pressing over the years and I have decided to take myself down the Go Fund Me road. It has been a difficult decision to make, making my transition known to others and no longer having the privacy or independence I planned on maintaining. But at the end of the day, I thought about what this has all been for: My self actualisation. This is for me, and finally being able to be the fullest, truest version of myself. Unfortunately something’s gotta give, right?

<div>Those who know me best know how important it has been keeping my true experience as a trans woman private. I hardly discuss my identity with others and rarely even tell people I’m a trans woman. This invites a guessing game of “do others know or not?”, and for a long time I prepared myself for the resilience this journey takes. I knew what to expect and I’ve been through all the adversities that come along with this lived experience: verbal and physical violence, struggles on personal relationships and a toll on my mental health.

<div>Whilst the concept of ‘passing’ may be ridiculous to some, the reality is that being able to live in peace and move through the world safely is extremely crucial. Regardless of that, for others to truly see me for me, as I was always meant to be, means taking these steps. At its worst, being clocked can be a life threatening and dangerous ordeal; at its best, it means most people not being able to really see me, connect with me, or know me for the woman I am. It means being othered, and in some way never belonging, always remaining on the fringes of society. I refuse for that to be my reality.

<div>Now - in taking that power back and pushing through with pride - it’s time for me to acknowledge the urgency of these surgeries so I can thrive as I’d always planned to. Here is where I turn to you all, reaching out for help. I can’t move forward authentically in my life while there is eternal unease and disconnection in my body.

<div>For those who don’t relate to or understand the trans experience, this venture may seem selfish or narcissistic. Some might question “She’s asking for money for surgeries?!”

<div>Believe me, I so wanted to be that girl who hustled like no tomorrow and did it all myself. But following that mentality for years still didn’t get me far enough. Having exhausted all other avenues there comes a time when you reach out to others. These surgeries are life-saving and life-affirming.

<div>We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of my stepdad, Wayne Davis — a man of immense character, a loving husband, father, and grandfather; a devoted brother, and son.

<div>Wayne was a man who was always ready to help; who faced every challenge he came upon with resolve and grit, and always somehow managed to find a solution. I never once, in all the years I knew him, saw him quit. He went into all things with full faith and conviction; every relationship he had was completely honest — for better or worse; he was always, entirely, only himself. A man who loved to laugh; a man who loved to have fun; a man who will be sorely missed.

Our people, our young generation, they are being killed and we won't stand from it. This has sparked the biggest civil movement in the country's modern history. Youth everywhere, around the world, are lending their voice to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Instead, they extort, harass, attack and kill innocent Nigerians. They profile youth with nice cars, nice clothes, for simply having an iPhone or laptop, assuming that they partake in fraud and engage in crime. When there is little evidence for this accusation, they often arrest anyway and falsify allegations just to extort what they can from these innocent youth. <br /><br />So far, Nigerian youth began peaceful protesting on October 8th to end this unit once and for all. There have been promises made by the government since 2017 to dissolve this unit and yet still in 2020. The protests, while anchored on the dissolution of SARS, is also asking for an accountability in governance. So far 10 protestors have been killed, according to Amnesty International, many more have been injured. Homes are being raided, protestors lives and safety is at stake. Still government has not shown evidence of giving into the demands of the people: 1) Immediate release of all arrested protestors. 2) Justice for all deceased victims of police brutality and appropriate compensation for their families. 3) Setting up an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of Police misconduct. 4) In line with police act, psychological evaluation and retaining (to be confirmed by an independent body) of all disbanded SARS officers before they can be redeployed and 5) Increase Police salary so that they are adequately compensated for protecting lives and property of citizens<br /><br />This Gofundme campaign is in support of the multiple victims on ground, suffering from the aftermath of protests, violence, looting, across the nation. This fundraiser also serves as a bridge for those who are unable to contribute directly to the cause. What is the purpose of this group? To use our position as youth in the diaspora to galvinze non-Nigerians and older diasporans towards the ongoing movement of ending police brutality in Nigeria. We are standing in gap and pooling more resources outside the Nigerian network. This includes student orgs in universities, churches and religious groups, corporations, and international news media.<br /><br />2. Who are the organizers? We are Nigerian graduate students and young professionals based in the United States. <br /><br />3. Why not direct link to on-ground organizations? Many people in the diaspora want to donate but have not been able to because of the payment hurdles and with orgs on ground. Our goal is not to detract from any existing fundraising, please donate wherever you are able to. We exist to be a bridge in this movement, creating more ways for more groups to support the same cause.<br /><br />4. Where is the money going? How will it reach the organizations? This campaign is in support of the multiple protests on ground, across the nation, and the organizations fighting for that cause. We will handle all the bank (and cryptocurrency) transfers for the verified and vetted organizations that we identify (some of which are listed on our GoFundMe and have already been informed). Why $100,000? GoFundMe is the best mechanism for our mission and they require us to set a target goal. We chose an amount that we believe is achievable and impactful.<br /><br />6. What is the timeline for the fundraising? We will raise for as long as possible. We anticipate the fundraising campaign will last until November. The overall movement is ongoing and the fight for justice will continue even after the protests conclude. These funds will continue to go a long way towards organizing for structural change and victim restitution. Hi my name is Adonis Brooks, and I am a low-income, first generation college student. I created this fund-raiser in hope that I may raise enough money to finish my education at the University of California, Berkeley, something that means the world to me. While at UC Berkeley, I was a model student with an above average GPA and aspirations to go to graduate school. Despite this, I came into some trouble while studying abroad in Paris and had to take a gap year due to financial and medical reasons. This step in my life threw everything out of proportion and as a result I acquired over 16k dollars in tuition fees that I could not pay. Because of these fees I was told that I could not re-enroll in classes. The shooting has now left my son critically injured as he fights for his life. The extent of my son’s injuries is unknown, but we remain prayerful as he continues to undergo multiple rounds of operations to save his life.This fund is established to cover my son’s medical expenses, mental and grief counseling for our family and to assist our family in the days to come, as we continue to seek justice for Jacob. Justice for Jacob Blake

My Journey for the Last 4 years was to help all people impacted by the injustices we face in the jobs that we do in our industry. Through many years I realized within my work that there are many demographics of people nation wide that needed the help and resources. 

During these years many of the lives that were lost made me work more to serve my community by any means necessary with mental, emotional, physical, and financial support. 

Due to covid 19 black and brown women and lgbtq are sleeping on subways and needing food. Some are at the brink of loosing their homes. 

My mission for this gofund is to buy property in Atlanta GA to create a resource center/ safe haven to help marginalized people and while in the mist of the pandemic help anyone in need of transportation temporary shelter or food during the pandemic nation wide while the property is being searched for. All this to protect the lives of my community. I’m searching for a property that can house enough people and provide services and training. 

This will be accomplished and the work will continue with the support from everyone, any amount giving counts and is truly appreciated. You all have been such a huge support for me within these years on and off Social Media. You all have been the reason I fight to continue to protect us all, so that we all can rise and flourish. This fund was started for a small community of Black Trans women living on the streets of Atlanta, many of whom are also sex workers. We now are not only able to help this community, but this project has grown into a unique opportunity to alleviate the chronic homelessness that exists among Trans people in Atlanta, especially among Black &amp; brown Trans people.<br /><br /><strong>Who I Am</strong><br /><br />My name is Jesse Pratt López. I am a Trans Latina from Colombia who calls Atlanta home. I use my experiences as a documentary photographer and grassroots activist to help folks from my community use their voices to resist systems of oppression and step into their own power. You can check out my photography at www.<a href="https://www.jprattlopez.photos/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">jprattlopez</a> .photos.<br /><br /><strong>Where We Started</strong><br /><br />I started this fund in mid-December 2019 to help a small group of Trans sisters I had met through ReVon Michaels, the “bougie queen” as she likes to call herself.<br /><br />ReVon is a Sagittarius with a huge smile and laugh, and an even bigger appetite. I first met her when she was strutting down the sidewalk in front of a Publix in downtown Atlanta. She was wrapped in a large blanket; her wig haphazardly placed upon her head and her curls as big as her smile. She asked if I could spare some change. I was about to tell her no, I don’t carry cash and I’m broke. But when I took a closer look, I realized at that moment that I was seeing my sister. My Trans sister. One of the Gurlz. A T-Slur as they like to call us on PornHub.com or right before they violate us.<br /><br />I told her that she looked beautiful and that I would be right back with some cash and a sandwich. When I returned she was so happy to see me. I asked her if I could take her picture.<br /><br />I would come back every couple of days to visit ReVon, or she would come to my house. We hung out, shared food, and she introduced me to the other girls who live and work on the Hoe Stroll – Piedmont Avenue, Atlanta, Georgia.<br /><br />I began a photo project to document the everyday lives of these Black Trans women: mundane, ugly, beautiful. Society has abandoned and discarded these girls. But their strength lies not in their struggles; it is in their survival in the face of adversity and their existence in the face of oppression. While creating this body of work, I walked the stroll with them, not only in order to walk in their shoes, but also because as a Trans woman myself, I realized this: while the rest of the world wants us not to exist, we are here, we have always been here, and we’re not going anywhere.<br /><br /><br />ReVon calls me momma. I call her daughter. And sometimes the roles are reversed. In the Trans community, we are each other’s elders because many of us don’t have anyone to support us. Since we met, I have become really close with ReVon — and the circle of my chosen family has become a little bit bigger.<br /><br /><br /><strong>The Fund: Where It Began and Where It’s Going</strong><br /><br />Once we became close, ReVon and the girls would share stories about the violence they experienced on the streets of Atlanta: getting raped, robbed, shot, and almost killed. Survival sex work has historically been the only profession that many Trans women have been able to succeed in. Many girls, especially when they don’t pass for society’s ideal archetype of what a woman should be, are denied jobs, housing, and other opportunities.<br /><br />Through my photography and presence in the Atlanta queer and trans arts and organizing scene, I saw a chance to get the girls the support and resources they needed. After initially raising $10,000 through this fund, I was able to secure them temporary housing through the winter holidays and assist with getting them necessities such as food, cell phones, clothes, and spending money. Eventually, I was also able to connect some of the girls to Jayme Stegar, the Lead Trans Outreach Specialist at <a href="https://someonecaresatl.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Someone Cares Atlanta</a>  Jayme was able to assist in finding  two of the girls a room in a rooming house led by Trans people. She has also been instrumental in connecting the girls to STI (sexually-transmitted infections) testing services and ensuring that they have the support to manage their immediate needs.<br /><br /><br />Unfortunately, by April 2020, we had run out of funds, at a time where the need was more pressing than ever in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through contributions from so many generous people, we were able to raise an additional $10,000.<br /><br /><br />Shortly after meeting this second goal, as uprisings ignited across the country to protest the murder and injustice faced by Black lives, this campaign received a resurgence of support. With over 70,000 donors, we have been able to raise $2 million and the fund continues to grow. With this renewed support, it became clear that we can achieve positive, sustainable, and permanent changes for the larger community of Black &amp; Brown Trans women in Atlanta.<br /><br />To that end, I have surrounded myself with local Trans-led organizations such as <a href="https://www.snap4freedom.org/home" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Solutions Not Punishment Collaborative</a> , <a href="http://www.southernfriedqueerpride.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Southern Fried Queer Pride</a>  and the <a href="http://transhousingatlanta.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Trans Atlanta Housing Program</a> , as well as service providers such as <a href="https://someonecaresatl.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Someone Cares Atlanta</a> , to begin working on a plan composed of smart goals for this transformed project. Further, I’ve been talking with the girls about their hopes for the future: what they need to build a stable foundation and what is now possible thanks to your support. <br /><br />With guidance and assistance from these organizations, I am working towards establishing a project guided by the Pathways <a href="https://endhomelessness.org/what-housing-first-really-means/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Housing First model</a> , based on the idea that “nothing in any person’s history or present precludes them from being able to be housed.” I have benefited greatly from the wise and kind input of Dr. Sam Tsemberis, the founder of Pathways to Housing in New York and originator of the Housing First model.
