Like many medical students, I have spent years in school with limited income, so this part has been tough to navigate on my own.

<div>I’ve made this kickstarter, hesitantly, to help fund an appropriate wheelchair to help me live a more “normal” life.

<div> My current wheelchair is an off the shelf foldable wheelchair, which is not in the best condition due to being mistreated by airlines multiple times. As the chair is quite heavy, I struggle to propel myself in it. The flimsy seat doesn’t support my hips properly, and can result in pain after only a few hours of use.
</div>

<div>Due to damage to my chair, the wheels now require manual inflating before every use, and they will often become too flat for me to propel myself by the end of the day. Additionally, my foot rests have been broken off and lost, leaving me to hold my feet up, which strains my muscles. Most recently, the handrims have been damaged by the airlines, causing the rims to cut up my hands as I wheel myself, even with the use of gloves. All of this makes navigating everyday activities, or going out in public, difficult.

<div>I live with multiple physical conditions, which impact my day to day life. 
</div>
<div>I have recently been diagnosed with Hypermobile Ehlers - Danlos Syndrome;  a degenerative multi-system genetic disorder affecting the connective-tissue of the body; causing pain, unstable joints, fragile skin, and a slew of other issues. I also have Dysautonomia, which is a dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system, and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome.
</div>
<div>POTs is a form of dysautonomia, which causes my heart rate to skyrocket whenever I stand up, causing me to become lightheaded, dizzy, and even pass out.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I also have Myalgic encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which causes any exertion of my body and muscles to have a major effect on me, leaving me worn out and bed ridden for days on end. It can also cause me to suddenly crash and be unable to hold myself upright.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I have also recently discovered I have deformations in my hip and lower spine causing instability and pain. Within these recent discoveries I also have a chiari malformation, meaning the lower part of my brain is being pushed down towards my spine. 
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The combination of these conditions means that even daily activities- such as showering, getting dressed, driving, cooking food, and cleaning- require assistance, and are almost impossible to do even with assistance on the bad physical days.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Unfortunately in Australia, these conditions are not supported under our NDIS scheme, as they are considered health conditions and not disabilities. This is despite the fact they are very disabling and require mobility aids, and constant expensive medical appointments. Many people with EDs, Dysautonomia, ME / CFS, and many other invisible conditions have fallen through the cracks of our health system.

<div>Many have shared their experiences with our media, appealed to our government, and pushed our medical bodies to include these conditions in the NDIS, but unfortunately there is no known plan to change this.
</div>

<div>The wheelchair I have been looking into that will be best suited for me is the

<div>Küschall Champion, it is a lightweight foldable wheelchair which has the strength and support of a rigid chair. It is small enough when folded that it can fit in the overhead carriage of a plane with wheels detached. I have hand selected all components to suit my needs and gotten a quote for these items.

<div>A specialised seat to support my hips and spine, Wheel handles which have been designed to allow less strain on weak hands, Breaks designed for less strength to use, among the few features I have selected.
</div>

<div>Being able to afford a wheelchair that suits my needs will be an absolute game changer to my lifestyle. It will allow me more independence and accommodation to live a slightly more “normal” life, which is something I can unfortunately not access right now due to a lack of NDIS funding. I live solely off my small art business, and a majority of the money I make goes towards continuous medical expenses and appointments. For these reasons, I am starting this GoFundMe, as this wheelchair is something I crucially need, but simply cannot afford.

<div>I'm in a bit of a dire situation. I currently live with someone that can be considered a worst case scenario of roommates. Back in February, said individual got arrested for drug possession, (poss. Of cocaine + methamphetamine) and claims it was only "a baggie of acid." Unbeknownst to me, he used $4000 (approx. 2 months) of rent to bail himself out of jail and unimpound his car. He tried to brush this under the rug, until I discover it through a notice letter from the leasing company that we're at threat of being evicted if we dont pay the aforementioned $4k. No one cleans up after themselves, trash piles uo daily, mere hours after the last mess was taken out, suspected drug usage from aforementioned person, who is also jobless, the list goes on. I am already under a great deal of stress from personal matters that are straining my finances (Car breaking down, dire need of an oral surgery for a tooth causing me pain, needing a rental to get around until i can get my car in for repairs), and I'm just about at my limit.  Any and all help is very much appreciated.

<div>UPDATE TO UPDATE: The hospital I have been working with has upped my estimate from 26,000 to a bit over 122,000. <div>I woke up and was immediately hit with a bout of vertigo and a splitting headache. The hearing in my left ear was muffled and strange, and I could hear my heart loudly pounding away in that ear. I went to urgent care, where I was told I probably had an ear infection. Little did I know, that was entirely wrong. It was just the start of my journey to a diagnosis.
</div>

<div>All of those issues have remained constant problems in my life since then. I'm constantly at least a little dizzy and often find myself nearly passing out, my skull generally feels like it's about to split open from pressure, and my hearing continues to get worse while silence has become something I only get to experience while I'm asleep.

<div>I worked constantly since that initial diagnosis to figure out what was wrong, sinking most of my savings into it, and came up empty-handed time and time again. It was only in late October that I got a concrete answer. After months of searching and being told I had to live like this, I had an answer and a treatment.

<div>It all comes down to the veins in my brain being, in essence, a mess. I was born with such underdeveloped veins in the right side of my brain that they may as well be absent. This isn't a problem on its own, as my left side has developed to compensate for it.
</div>

<div>However, my left side, for currently unknown reasons, has begun to narrow in several spots. This is choking the bloodflow in my head even further, and my lack of useful veins on the right side makes this a problem. My brain's bloodflow is strangled, turbulent, and is creating a bunch of pressure in my head. This also explains why I hear my own heartbeat and not much else in my left ear, the primary narrowed vein is right near my ear and is more forceful than it should be.
</div>

<div>This condition also has potential to increase my risk of brain blood clotting / stroke. Generally, narrowing either gets worse or stays the same. It does not get better on its own, and there isn't really a way to project if it will get worse or not. If mine gets worse, I'm in danger due to my absence of veins on the right side. Therefore, it's something I need to get treated sooner rather than later.
</div>

<div>There's a light at the end of the tunnel. Via a relatively new procedure, some doctors can place a stent in the narrowed veins in my brain to force them back to their proper width and prevent them from renarrowing. I have already talked to a doctor who thinks I'm a great candidate for this procedure.

<div>The problem is that this doctor is out of state, and my insurance won't cover this procedure. In addition, though I am at notably increased risk of several potential fatal neurological problems due to this issue, I haven't had a stroke yet (which is... probably a good thing.) This means that this would be seen as an elective surgery, and there is no guarantee I will be able to get a better plan to cover it either.
</div>

<div>It's very likely that I will have to pay for this out of pocket. But, ultimately, I can't and shouldn't live with this. The symptoms I deal with have upended my life and have made everything far harder for me than it used to be. The constant fear that this could easily get worse is a dark cloud over my life as well. Our dear friend Jim was in a horrible motorcycle accident Sunday 5/16/2021. He was hit at a stop light early in the morning. Jim was loved by many. This is Quinn! He's 22 years old, loves the people of his community, and is a joyful presence in the lives of everyone he knows.. Quinn is transgender, and has been on HRT for 1.5 years now. While HRT has helped Quinn in his transition, the barrier of top surgery is one that is not surmountable by himself. <br /><br />Top surgery is important for many trans folks in alleviating dysphoria, which can be extremely distressing because their body does not match their perception of themselves. <br /><br />Quinn is working very hard to be able to go back to school to pursue his dream to teach music. I am the youngest son of Yong Yue, one of the six Asian-American women brutally killed in the recent mass shootings in Atlanta, Georgia. My mother was a Korean-born American citizen who was hatefully and violently murdered.  Mom was an amazing woman who loved to introduce our family and friends to her home-cooked Korean food and Korean karaoke.  Will miss joining mom on her weekly Sunday routine to the grocery store and traditional Korean dinner.  She was always kind-hearted and willing to help everyone she encountered. <br /><br />The world will throw you trials and tribulations to test you, but this test feels so unfair. We are still in shock over the violent murder of our mother, but through our grieving we are making plans to memorialize her, bring our family together, and resolve her financial matters.  Nothing could have prepared us for this tragic moment that has created immediate and future expenses that we could never have imagined.<br /><br />Funds raised will be used to assist with managing mother’s affairs for her home, associated costs for our family to travel to her memorial, as well as going towards her memorial service costs and her personal affairs for the immediate future. Tragically, last night we lost Ray in the bus accident that happened in New Mexico. Thank God it was instant &amp; he did not suffer. <br /><br />Ray was on his way back here to Lompoc to live when the accident happened. This was supposed to be a surprise for our large &amp; extended family. Some had not seen him for many years. Those of us that knew he was on his way were looking forward to him being here again in this loud, at times crazy, but love filled home!<br /><br />His daughter, Riley is still in Missouri with her mother who will now not have the financial support her father was giving her.<br /><br />We are trying to raise money to get him home, for a memorial, and for support for Riley. <br /><br />If you could help in anyway the family will be eternally greatful.
