<div>Eamonn was a fit and healthy 37 year old, but on <strong>28th of May 2017 </strong>a massive seizure led to a diagnosis of a brain tumour. 
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Eamonn's 1st surgery in <strong>June 2017 </strong>was an awake craniotomy believed to have achieved 100% removal of the tumour. Multiple complications followed for Eamonn including, 
</div>
<ul>
<li><em>a life threatening lung clot </em>
</li>
<li><em>2 brain bleeds requiring emergency surgery </em>
</li>
<li><em>10 days in Intensive care</em>
</li>
<li><em>complete paralysis on his left side</em>
</li>
<li><em>subsequent skull infection requiring surgery and replacement of a large segment of his skull with a prosthetic</em>
</li>
<li><em>Eamonn was also diagnosed with Epilepsy as a result of the complications.</em>
</li>
</ul>

<div>Eamonn was fully dependent on the staff in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin for his basic care, unfit to return home where he started an intensive rehabilitation programme, transferring to the National Rehab Hospital where he remained until <strong>November 2017.</strong> 
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>After his discharge from the NRH Eamonn continued his intense rehab as an outpatient, where his goal was to walk again and play football with his son Fionn; something he achieved after many many months of hard work. Despite the ongoing setbacks he experienced, eventually Eamonn regained sufficient improvements in his leg, even returning to his GAA coaching in his local club and enjoying time with his dogs.

<div>Unfortunately the recovery of his left arm and hand wasn't as successful due to his acquired brain injury but Eamonn worked hard to adjust. 
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>It was a massive shock to Eamonn and family to be told after 7 years that there was a reoccurrence of the brain tumour. His medical team changed the status of his tumour to *<strong><em>treatable but incurable</em></strong>*. With more surgery no longer an option, a lengthy period of radiotherapy and chemotherapy were decided upon. 
</div>

</div>
<div>In <strong>March/April 2024</strong> Eamonn underwent 6 weeks of daily radiotherapy in St Luke's Hospital, Dublin. 
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Unexpectedly the treatment caused a reduced loss in power/mobility and his ability to perform simple daily tasks, being dependent on family and friends once again. 
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Eamonn is currently receiving chemotherapy which started on the <strong>16th of July 2024</strong> for the duration of 12 months. 
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The reason we, his family and friends, have set up this Go Fund Me page is to support Eamonn and his own family as they've experienced significant financial loss because Eamonn has been unable to work full-time since 2017 and this will continue for the foreseeable future. 
</div>

<div>Due to the fact that Eamonn has suffered this condition previously he is precluded from any mortgage payment protection or critical illness cover; making it an extremely worrying situation for them, as it would be for any family.

<div>Because of the unknown side effects of this incurable brain tumour we hope to support the family in any modifications that may be required within their home throughout Eamonn's treatment and into the future and to protect their home.

<div>We would also hope to support Eamonn in accessing any possible further treatments in the future and his young family, Jane, Sinéad and Fionn to continue to build memories as uncertain times lie ahead with Eamonn's prognosis.

<div>I never thought I would be asking for this kind of help, but as Bob Marley who died in 1981 of the same type of cancer as myself said "money can't buy life" but actually in Europe in 2024, money can help my situation to get an amazing chance of survival!

<div>My cancer is a rare, genetic ALM tumour (not related to sun exposure) which is unresponsive to conventional chemotherapy.
</div>

</div>
<div>The AVL cancer hospital in Amsterdam which I have visited, has approved treatment for me, unfortunately Ireland does not offer this treatment and can do no more for me. I have a very rare tumour amongst fair-skinned europeans. They said I am strong enough right now for TIL therapy but my time is running out. I am humbly asking for your help

<div>I spent my working life helping people in my small family practice which Greg and I set up together in 2005. We bought &amp; funded this to help everyone we possibly could.
</div>

<div>My own cancer was very hidden until very late. It appeared as a thin pink line under my left toenail towards the skin on the top of the toe. It looked like a thorn had got in there and when the biopsy was done soon after finding this, it was shocking to hear, malignant melanoma already grade 3!! Acral in type which grows down into the toe before it can be seen in the nail. It had already spread to my lymph nodes in the groin when my toe was removed 6 weeks later.

<div>It was not caused by sun exposure but a fault in my immune system. I was a real ‘nature baby ‘who never smoked or drank alcohol or took food additives colouring agents etc. I loved to cook and Greg grew organic veggies and we have apple trees, berries, hens etc.
</div>

</div>
<div>I had 12 months of Immunotherapy in Beaumont Dublin and multiple full body and brain scans. Shockingly there was no stopping this aggressive cancer. It spread to both lungs and my liver and despite 4 sessions of double Immunotherapy it marched on. There is no realistic treatment left here in Ireland and it is now a death sentence. The secondaries in my lungs and liver are growing and each time I go back to Beaumont Hospital clinic to hear the scan results, the news is bad. This type of tumour is now very highly likely to spread to my brain . If this happens it may be too late for any more therapy. Chemotherapy doesn't work well for this tumour. There is nothing left in Dublin.

<div>Amazingly a new therapy called TIL which is 30 years on the making!! has come into the world of medicine just in the nick of time for me. It is called TIL therapy. It is not available in Ireland. It has been done in trials in USA for years with great results. Patients can get a 30% plus chance of full cure or a 50-60 % chance of progression free survival. It is being done in a few specialised centres in Europe including Switzerland, Finland, Denmark and especially in Holland where the doctors work with their whole team to bring new hope back to patients like myself.
</div>
<div>They are at the AVL Cancer Hospital in Amsterdam and I met them on 10/07/24. They are waiting to help me. I am on their list to come in soon for screening and surgery to take a piece of tumour tissue from my lungs and liver and grow the TIL cells from my tumour in their lab. When they have hundreds of thousands of cells in the lab beside the surgical theatre, they infuse the cells into my veins. A week before the treatment I will be given strong Chemotherapy to knock back my bone marrow and make room for the new TIL cells. After I get the cells I will be given Interleukin to boost up the number of cells in my blood stream to millions and billions… to fight the tumour. I will be approx 4-5/6 weeks in hospital. There is a gap when the cells are growing in the lab where I will be at home but after 4/5 weeks when they are ready and I get Chemotherapy to make room for them I will be the girl in the bubble for a while.

<div>TIL has not been fully given the go ahead yet in Europe. The FDA has approved it fully in America(February 2024). In Amsterdam , so far, only patients with grade 4 malignant melanoma who didn't respond to Immunotherapy are being given TIL therapy on compassionate grounds before the full EMA approval in 2025. In Amsterdam patients are given it on their basic medical insurance, or from donations if they need.

<div>We will now need up to €150,000 for the TIL and the hospital bills.
</div>

<div>On the matter of payment, I have been given an official refusal by the HSE and LAYA Health Insurance as they are waiting for full EMA approval in 2025. Am I too late or too early?

<div>TIL therapy is tough and I am going to embrace it in an attempt at cure..In my shoes you would do anything to live.
</div>

</div>
<div>I am one of the first people in Ireland to get this treatment for my rare cancer, which WILL be a standard of care in the very near future. The cure for cancer is just within our grasp.
</div>
<div>In the very very near future it will be used for curing late colorectal, cervical and head/neck cancer.
</div>

</div>
<div>I was hoping to start a Well-woman, cancer surveillance and dermatology surveillance clinic in 2021 when I got this terrible diagnosis. I am full of life just waiting for this tumour to spread to my brain. My husband Greg, my greatest friend with whom I am with for over 32 years is distraught as we wait for my deterioration.

<div>My youngest son, has struggled with epilepsy since the age of 6 years old and he hopes to be a cell biologist one day and I would love to live to help him in his struggles. Our two other young adult children are at the beginning of their lives. I feel I just cannot die. I am sad at the prospect of never being able to dance at their weddings, to see any of my own grandchildren or to help them all through the trials of life. I have a lot to give. I pledge to help anyone I can with cancer and that <strong>any unused Go fund me money will go to help others in Beaumont Public hospital…this year of hope.</strong>

<div>Our dear friend Tracey Taaffe was first diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2021 at the young age of 42 years old. After a tough fight, 12 rounds of chemo and 20 rounds of radiation she was deemed cancer free, and she was back living live to the fullest as she always had done. However over 1.5 years later in April 2024 Tracey aged 44 was told her cancer was back and her diagnosis was confirmed as Stage 4 Incurable Metastatic Breast Cancer.

<div>Tracey, her family, and friend’s world has been turned upside down by this news – most of all her devastated husband Alan, daughter Lea and son Rhys.
</div>

<div>Since then, she has been battling with grit and grace. Those of you who know Tracey know that she works hard, and that she’s someone who always puts others first. 
</div>
<div>Being self-employed, she pushed herself to the limits to keep her business going.  A career that she worked so relentlessly hard on. Even when she was in the throws of treatment and struggling herself, she got up and tried her best to carry on.  Grit &amp; Grace as always. 
</div>
<div>With her most recent diagnosis of Stage IV Terminal Metastatic Breast Cancer, she had to take the difficult decision to retire and close her business too soon.  Being self-employed adds the extra financial burden and stress.

<div>While we can’t take away the stress and pain, we want to do what Tracey would do, by gathering together, in an army of love and support to help with the financial struggles of life and medical treatment.

Help Tracey Taaffe in her battle with Stage4 terminal cancer

<div>As all her family and friends will know, Karen passed away very suddenly.

<div>Karen's 3 children were her life's work and what an amazing job she did.

<div>She had the opportunity to raise one of her sons to adulthood.
</div>
<div>Now the responsibility lays with her eldest Son to get her two younger son's through there education and to provide a safe haven for them. Which everyone will appreciate is a costly under taking.

<div>We as her friends have decided to set up this Go Fund me page in Karen's honor to try and help alleviate the financial burden on her eldest son.

<div>We as Nicole's family &amp; friends are setting up this gofundme page to help Nicole &amp; her family as she battles with the devastating diagnosis of a rare form of adrenal cancer. Nicole has been given the heartbreaking news that her cancer is incurable and inoperable.

<div>In the last 4 weeks, Nicole's life has dramatically changed, just 4 weeks ago she was living her life like any other 20 year old and now Nicole is in Tallaght Hospital after 3 days in ICU fighting for her life. She is now stable in a ward spending as much time as she has left with her family and friends. We are hoping for some good days as just this past weekend we thought the worst was going to happen.

<div>Nicole has been told she has possibly 12 to 18 months to live, like many cancers, Nicole's cancer has spread to other areas of her body by the time it was detected. Due to the nature of her cancer and treatment, Nicole is immunocompromised and this is further impacting her family and friends and the support system they can have around them.

<div>As you can imagine, this diagnosis is utterly heartbreaking for Nicole, her parents and siblings, her boyfriend Timi, her family and her wide circle of friends.

<div>To know Nicole is to love Nicole, she is a 1 in a million daughter, sister, girlfriend, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend. She is a gorgeous, kind, witty, intelligent, strong and very brave young girl with a wonderful sense of humour and a strength beyond her years.

<div>She should be planning for a very bright future and instead is fighting this horrible disease.
</div>

<div>Our friend, Matt suffered a serious spinal-cord injury in Mexico last summer. He and his friends were on a boat tour off the coast of Cancun, and when diving into the water, Matt hit a shallow sandbank. This resulted in his C5 vertebrae being fractured. Luckily, Matt underwent an emergency corpectomy spinal surgery in Mexico and his spinal cord is still intact so there is hope. Currently, this means he has limited function in his arms, with no control of his triceps, hands or lower body. 
</div>

<div>Matt is the most kind, adventurous, fun-loving character. A great man for a party who lights up every room. For those who know him, he can be a little stubborn and opinionated, but he always makes it his mission to bring happiness to everyone he meets. Being an avid traveller he had decided to go to Mexico to volunteer at a coral reef restoration project and finish his trip with a Yoga instructor course.
</div>

</div>
<div>He was repatriated to Ireland where he was initially treated at the ICU &amp; spinal units in the Mater Hospital and is continuing his treatment at the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH). Both the staff at the Mater, and the doctors, nurses and therapists at the NRH have been amazing. Although he has limited bodily functions, Matt has been making slow progress and is determined to get these back. His positivity has been unshaken throughout.

<div>In order for Matt to recover we need to adopt a more aggressive treatment regime than is possible in Ireland at this time. We are currently in the process of applying for specialist treatment centres including stem cell, exo-skeleton and bio-electric treatments.

Help Matt Achieve His Goal Of Walking Again !!

<p>We have set up this page on behalf of our mother Lorraine wing (Molloy). Lorraine is a loving mother of her three children, Matthew(30),  danielle(26) and mikayla(23).

<p>Lorraine has always been active, she loved working, getting out and doing her evening walks around the neighbour hood. She had a sense of independence and freedom to wake up and do what made her feel good about herself.  She always seen the positive side to life and enjoyed giving in anyway she could and because of that she has raised 3 wonderful children who she is most proud of. 
</p>
<p>Until one day, her world turned upside down.
</p>

</p>
<p>Suffering a car crash in 2009, this is when Lorraine learned of changes in her feet and legs that she noticed. Cold feet, discolouration in the legs and swelling. Not thinking much of it, she visited her GP who then referred her for further testing. With ongoing investigations of MRIs in the hospital with consultants. Lorraine was officially diagnosed with MS(Multiple Sclerosis) at the age of 47, a year later from her accident. 
</p>

</p>
<p>At first, Lorraine found this news hard to take in, not knowing much about her diagnosis she was afraid of what it all meant and what it held for her and her future as an active mother of 3 children but the person she has been and still
</p>
<p>is today, she did not see this as and end. 
</p>
<p><br />
</p>
<p>Lorraine carried on working after her diagnosis and learned that she would eventually lose her mobility over time, not knowing how bad but she kept on going day to day with all her heart and strength. 
</p>
<p><br />
</p>
<p>Within a couple of years, her balance was worsening, she required a walking stick and suffered with bad restless legs. The MS did not only affect her walking but her memory and sleeping pattern. Family members could see she was repeating the same conversations, not knowing the day or even finding it hard to even remember things she had done during her week. 
</p>
<p><br />
</p>
<p>This was very hard on Lorraine. She was suffering from the inside, her mobility her strength had been taken from her. Not knowing who she is as person anymore losing her will to    live a normal life. 
</p>
<p><br />
</p>
<p>This carried into years and led to her not wanting to leave the house and felt like a burden to others. She did not want to feel like she had to be helped constantly to do normal things.  Family members along with her children would encourage her and try to get her to leave the house and do things but her motivation had disappeared over the years.  
</p>

</p>
<p>Lorraine is very dependant on her children. Mikayla who is the youngest of the 3 has taken on the responsibility to become her mothers carer at only the age of 21. Her children have been with her since day 1 and never let her go through it all alone.

<p>By 2018, Lorraine had got so bad with her mobility that her bedroom had to be moved to the downstairs of the house as climbing the stairs became a difficult task in itself as well as even trying to do laundry or making herself food. 
</p>
<p>During the COVID lockdown, Lorraine suffered and lived most of her days in front of the tv or in her bedroom isolated as she is high risk. Not being able to see her mother or sister really made the whole illness for her unbearable. She was fed up! 
</p>

<p>Lorraine has been encouraged to take sessions of physio to help strengthen her body again but it wasn’t enough. She didn’t feel
</p>
<p>any difference in herself.  This is when we did more research to discover stem cell treatment.
</p>

<p>On 20th of July 2021, Lorraine had a dream and that dream was to be able to walk again. She wants to live and to feel freedom in herself.  Knowing she will eventually possible be fully bed bound and rely on her wheelchair full time in a couple of years, with a little help from her family Lorraine has opened up to learn about stem cell treatment in which she discovered that this could be her chance to live again and feel normal.

<p>HSCT is a harsh treatment that removes the stem cells from her peripheral blood through a bone marrow transplant, they then give a high dose of chemotherapy and then put your healthy stem cells back into the nervous system. You are in isolation and given steroids during your full recovery period.

</p>
<p>The process takes roughly 30-40 days and when home Patients have to isolate for up to 6 months so they can rebuild their immune system. 
</p>
<p>Lorraine has spoken to previous patients who have undergone the same treatment and has had a lot of positive feedback from their experiences. 
</p>

<p>So, within a week mikayla who is her youngest as well as the support of her two eldest Matthew and Danielle have made contact with Lorraine’s doctors, neurologists and have sent in details to approve her for the stem cell treatment.
</p>
<p>Four days later days Lorraine was approved and made eligible for treatment in MAY 2022. 
</p>

<p>With such short time and only a couple of months away we are deeply asking for everyones help!

<p><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/58040187_1624909839748096_r.jpeg" alt="58040187_1624909839748096_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" />Hi I’d like to introduce you to my niece Amelia, a beautiful, brave, happy little girl with the brightest smile.  In april 2020 a month before her 7th birthday my brother JP and his partner Samantha received the devastating news that Amelia is suffering from a rare genetic brain disease for which there is no cure.  She was diagnosed with Juvenile Metachromatic Leukodystrophy or MLD for short.
</p>

<p>MLD is a life limiting illness. It is a rare genetic degenerative disease which results in loss of motor skills such as walking, moving, speaking and swallowing, loss of intellectual, thinking and memory skills, stiff rigid muscles, paralysis, seizures, blindness, hearing loss and dementia and eventually death. If a person is diagnosed with MLD before they begin to display symptoms they can be treated. Gene therapy or bone marrow transplant are options these treatments will help to slow down the progression of the illness but they are only effective if you are pre symptomatic and they will not cure the disease.  In Amelias case her diagnosis came too late for her to receive treatment.

<p>Amelia was born a healthy baby and reached all milestones like any other child. At the age of 4 she started to have an issue with her gait that was effecting her right leg. Dyspraxia was suggested as a possibility.  In 2019 Amelia was having more falls than what would have been expected and walking was becoming more difficult for her.  In November that year she was referred for a MRI which showed abnormalities in the white matter of the brain.  She was then referred to Temple Street Children’s Hospital for further testing and it was a genetics test that eventually confirmed MLD.

<p>Within the short time from her diagnosis Amelia has already lost the ability to walk, move, talk and swallow. She is now tube fed and requires 24hr care.  Her medical needs will become more complex as the disease progresses.
</p>

<p>Prior to her illness Amelia was a funny, laid back loving little girl who loved nothing more than winding up her sister and brother Louisa and John. She has always had a great love for animals especially dogs and previously said she would like to be a vet. The possibility of a companion dog was looked into but the waiting lists are over 10 years.

<p>There is sadly no cure for this disease but her family are doing everything they can to make sure that she is happy and has many memories and smiles for the duration of her journey. Despite the help that they receive from the HSE and Lauralynn an awful lot more resources are required to help Amelia to be comfortable and make the best of her days. Some of the basics are provided but there is a lot more needed,

<p>The reason for this fundraiser to be able to support Jp and Samantha to give their precious child Amelia the attention and care she needs and so deserves. And also for them to make some wonderful memories together as a family.

On the 30th April 2021, Mim lost her battle with cancer leaving behind her beloved daughter Tess and husband Noely. Hi Everyone, <br /> <br />We’re currently fundraising for my auntie Sonia. Sonia is 42 and was originally diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer in February 2019. She underwent an aggressive treatment of radiation and chemotherapy every day for 2 months.  She was almost a year in remission when we got the sad news for the second time in July 2020, incurable cervical cancer had returned and this time it has spread to her lungs. <br /><br />Because Sonia has received the maximum dose of radiation, she can't undergo this treatment again, and so all that is being offered to her is palliative care. The tumors are inoperable and incurable. We have been given 12 months to spend with her while she is receiving chemotherapy treatment that leaves her very sick.  <br /><br />We weren't happy to accept the prognosis of 12 months life expectancy. The best option that we have found is through the Hope4Cancer clinic in Mexico who will offer nontoxic protocols that will improve her overall condition and help shrink her tumors. While working to raise the money for this life changing treatment Sonia has been following a strict diet and using alternative treatments to help suppress the cancer for a short period of time. So, this treatment alongside the current treatment would be the best possible chance for Sonia to prolong her life. <br /><br />After the whole community came together to help Sonia raise money for her first trip to Mexico, Sonia was advised by the doctor that she needs to return in 3 months time to continue her treatment. As we all know this isn't feasible as it took time and dedication from a lot of people to help Sonia get to this goal in the first place. The doctor advised that she needs to come back within 6 months at the latest. This means we need to try and raise €50,000 to get Sonia over to Mexico again to help prolong her life. Sonia's new heavy medication programme runs out in 6 months time and this is whats helping keep Sonia's tumours stable as well as giving her the chance to prolong her life. <br /><br />Anyone who knows Sonia will know what an avid sportsperson she is and will understand how much of a shock this diagnosis has been for the whole family. Sonia is well recognised for a number of achievements in sports and has previously played with Dundalk FC, Peamount Ladies FC and Blackrock FC. She was awarded Argus Sports Star of the year in 2005 and won the FAI Cup Final with Dundalk FC also in 2005.  She was the captain of the DKIT football college team and won the Interprovincial college tournament. Sonia played Gaelic with her local club Dowdallshill and with Louth’s women's team. More recently she was the first player to take her place in the Castletown Belles FC hall of fame.<br /><br />We really hope to try and raise the €50,000 as soon as possible so Sonia can go back to the Hope4Cancer clinic in Mexico for treatment and medication within the next 6 months. This is our last hope and we would really appreciate any donation you could make. Save Our Sonia (SOS)-Treatment in Mexico

Hi, this is Ruby, she is 5 years old and has no medical care in Ireland. <br /><br />Every hospital appointment ends in how they can't help her, one hospital told us "your daughter has to many issues for us to help her", "we can't help" so we have no choice but to travel for health care. <br /><br />Last May we thought our worst fears had come true and we had lost her as nothing I did was bringing her around.  Our local hospital told us how lucky she was to be alive but we were sent home because they didn't know how to help her, I was terrified so I rang a doctor in London who is one of the very few who can see pass Ruby's smiles. That itself was brilliant.  This winter was horrific and we fear for the next one as I felt I was struggling to keep her here, every 7 mins pulling her up to breathe all night long. In December a respected Doctor told me Ruby needs health care so she can grow up.<br /><br />Ruby is diagnosed, hEDS (suspected Vascular), MCAS, chronic fatigue, Dysautonomia or autonomic dysfunction, Hypomobitlity of the throat, enlarged tonsils, sleep apnea, chromosome deletion 18, eyes dislocation, loss of eye sight and absent seizures,  GERD, hiatus hernia  she spends most nights having to be pulled up so she will breathe, she is extreme pain constantly and every time she runs or walks a distance she dislocates her bones so she uses a wheelchair, her throat issues mean she can go for days even weeks without eating at a time, due to pain she can also be awake for days before covid she only managed 2 half days of school a week on a good week but loved school. This is to name  some of her conditions and we were told more will follow when she is old enough to be diagnosed officially. <br /><br />Ruby has traveled to London where she sees a great specialist but because we can't get it writing from our hospitals that they can't  help her or there is no consultant in Ireland to refer her we can't avail of any of the medical aboard schemes. <br />I have contacted the minster for health numerous times and have spoken Leo Varadkar.<br /><br />Ruby needs to have genetics done in London as she was refused here even after 4 appeals, she needs an upright MRI, she needs to be seen by her specialist, a knowledgeable ENT, Ophthalmologists, cardiology,  respiratory, genetics, Gastroenterologist, orthopaedic, ot, physio,  pain management  and many of our EDS friends and a specialist I have seen believe/suspect Ruby also has neck instability and chiari so she also needs this to be investigated to cross it of but it is almost certain as I have these conditions. These are just a few of the areas I know off that she needs to be seen in but most likely more will be added after her tests. <br /><br />Ruby is a very happy child, you will very rarely see her without her smile or lipstick.  She lights up my day every day and sees the good in everything. We are doing the go fund me as we just want her to receive treatment and grow up.  Sadly trips aboard add up very fast. Ruby's Journey (medical care)

How can we begin to describe our dad? A Father, a husband, a brother, and a Grandfather. But he is more than that. He is an Advocate for those in need, a Good Samaritan, A Wise Man, a Gentleman, a Joker, a Musician, a Story Teller and a fierce and true friend to anyone who knows him.<br /><br />From a young age, our Dad spent his life always helping others. Our own childhood recalls our Dad working night and day 7 days a week as a roofer to ensure there was food on the table and clothes on our back. After a roofing accident, Dad gave up roofing and became Chairman of  The Ballymun Men’s Centre in 1998, which went on to provide much need mental health supports in the area for men of any age suffering with loneliness, depression, addiction and alcoholism among other things.<br /><br />Our Dad would always give what he could or do what he could to help someone in need. He would never walk past a homeless person without offering them what he could. One day actually giving a young woman on the streets of Dublin,the coat off his own back as he had nothing else to give her.<br /><br />Over the years and throughout our childhood up until recently, even during the pandemic, our Dad would often take people, friends, family and animals into his own home for as long as they needed when they found themselves down on luck. He never looks for anything in return and in fact, would probably not agree to us creating this fundraiser. With this in mind, if we are fortunate enough to have funds left over from this fundraiser, we intend to share it among mental health, cancer research and homeless charities in his name.<br /><br />Anyone that has ever known our Dad will know how kind and big hearted he is. Anywhere we go with him, he makes new friends. He is the most selfless, compassionate, understanding person we know in the world and we just want to care for him for a change. He is still so young, only 61 years on him and has so much of life to experience. He is father to 5 children, his youngest daughter is only 20 years old. He has children who he has not walked down the aisle yet, 9 grandchildren who adore him and miss him, and more grandchildren he is yet to meet and a wife whose world feels like its crumbling at the thought of losing her childhood sweetheart.<br /><br />On Monday the 11th January 2021, Dad was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and that it has spread to his kidney and lung.  Given the current circumstances, the team of nurses and consultants at the hospital were amazing support to Dad. We couldn’t be with him when he got the news or had his tests, we couldn’t visit him or hug him or comfort him in the way we wanted to, due to Covid. This has been especially hard for our Mother.<br /><br />Even while going through all of this, Dad was thinking of anyone but himself. He would ask us all how we are and tell us all not be getting upset and to be looking after ourselves and our Mam. He told us of an elderly man who was in his ward and how his hearing aid batteries had died a few days ago. This mans family could not visit either because of Covidand so Dad asked if we could do anything to help this man.Knowing that this kind gesture would cheer our Dad up, we got them and Dad was able to give them to this man.<br /><br />We are hoping to raise funds to pay for medical treatment to give our Dad the very best chance of beating this. We are aware that the times we are in are particularly difficult financially for some people and we are eternally grateful for every cent that we raise because every cent really will make the difference. <br /><br />Thank you all for your time and support during these difficult and challenging times. <p><strong>The past few weeks we have had many heartbreaking conversations about the </strong><br /><strong>possibility of amputating Slav’s leg below the knee -<br /></strong>in case that surgery would be completed in Ireland. This was extremely difficult to hear and I only want to consider this if absolutely necessary, that’s why I have been speaking to Doctors abroad who see many more children with Slav type of cancer.<strong><br /></strong><br />Slav was diagnosed in January 2018 with very rare type of cancer, stage IV Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma . He had a surgery done at the beginning of his journey in Crumlin hospital, however the tumour was only<strong> incompletely excised and came back in the same spot in August 2020. Now, we need a specialist</strong> who will be able to remove this with wide, clear margins and to complete neuro-muscular reconstruction of his foot, as well as reconstruction of his vein and to cover it all with the skin graft. Unfortunately we were not offered to do such a surgery in Ireland and we now have only 2.5 weeks to raise funds to travel to Vienna. The surgery is now booked for 27th October 2020.<br /><br /><strong>The tumour in Slav's foot is growing and any postponing of the surgery would mean bigger damage and more complicated surgery. Slav also needs chemotherapy but this can commence only when surgery is done.</strong>
</p>

<p>Doctor in Vienna  Hospital is very confident he can remove the tumour and scar tissue from previous surgery (that can be contaminated from inside) and he is telling us amputation will not be needed!<br /><br />This is obviously a better option for Slav. If Slav has surgery here he will very possibly loose his leg as per surgeon report. We can’t let this happen when it can be saved. <br /><br />Since finding out about Slav’s recent recurrence Slav has had no chemotherapy treatment so we need to move quickly before his cancer grows (unfortunately it is visibly getting bigger)<br /><br />This urgent surgery in Vienna will cost approx 35k covering the surgery and additional genetic testing. We have little funds left to maintain Slavs oxygen chamber and cover his supplements.  We have 17 days to raise this amount. I know this is a large amount in very little time but I will do whatever it takes to Save Slav.

Lifesaving surgery for Slav

For as long as I've known Darragh he has talked about his dream to go to Vietnam and travel the trials and historical sites . DARRAGHS DREAM TRIP TO VIETNAM

Although the phrase goes ‘There is something about Mary’ in this case there really is something about Laura!<br /><br />Laura is well known and loved for her bright smile, sunny disposition and incredible work ethic. She is the Queen of multitasking running a busy home that she shares with her husband David and children: stepson Dylan, Thomas, Matthew and Sophie. Laura constantly champions other women. She is supportive of women in politics, public life and the home. She is active in her community in Dublin North West and well known for having the whole family out and about at community initiatives. Many will know that Laura cared for her mother Nora when she was diagnosed and later passed away from Dementia. Since then, Laura has become a very active advocate and engagement officer with The Alzheimer Society of Ireland. She promotes positive mental health and support for family carers.<br /><br />Laura and David were looking forward to welcoming baby no.5 to their family in June. Although baby Daniel arrived safe and well, Laura herself suffered complications in childbirth.  Laura was in an induced coma for 2 weeks after Daniel's birth.  Although her body is now strong and she can breath independently, she has suffered a significant brain injury. Due to the challenges of Covid-19, David can only visit Laura for one hour per day in ICU. He has taken leave from work to mind their children and baby Daniel at home.<br /><br />Laura and David are the most beautiful people. Their positive outlook on life is admirable. No task too big, no stone left upturned.  They have been wonderful friends to many. As a family, they go above and beyond to help others.  Both of them always make themselves available to support others, assist with campaigns and volunteer at events. They do all of this, with small children at home and whilst working.  We are hoping to repay them for their selflessness down through the years by now supporting them, as a family. <br /><br />Right now, what the future holds for Laura, David and their family is unclear. It is clear, however, that we can raise some funds to help alleviate financial pressure on this family.<br /><br />This is a young family, 5 children and a father who is above all else terrified for his wife. Love for Laura

On the 5th of January, Kev, a very close friend of ours, aged only 40, suffered a massive stroke and was immediately admitted to Beaumont Hospital where he underwent 2 high risk surgeries to stop the bleeding and reduce the swelling on his brain. He was placed in a medically induced coma to allow his brain to repair and recover from such a severe trauma. 

For the next 3 weeks, Kev remained in a coma and medical staff gave him a less that 1% chance of survival. But Kev put up one hell of a fight and slowly regained consciousness. After a further 2 weeks, through hard work and determination Kev was stable enough to be transferred back to St. Vincent's Hospital. 

At an already difficult time, Kev and his family were dealt another blow as the Covid19 pandemic was declared and the country went into lock-down. This meant that while Kev was struggling to recover, his main support system of his wife Emma, their 3 children Toby, Kealen and Robyn and all his family and friends was restricted. The only way to communicate was through face time aided by the ever-helpful nursing staff. Which means Kev hasn’t seen his 3 children since March. 

On the 18th of May, Kev's improvements were such that he was ready to be moved to the National Rehabilitation Hospital. Here he will undergo months of intensive, carefully planned therapy, in order to allow him to regain use of his left-hand side &amp; learn to walk again. All with the goal of bringing him back home to reunite with his family. 

This is where we need your help!! We hope to have Kev home by August, but in order to do this, his family will need to carry out massive modifications to their home. From wheelchair accessible hallways / doors to stair lifts to modified bath and bedroom facilities.

We are raising funds for the treatment and care of Olivia, our beautiful baby girl. Little Livie has been diagnosed with a rare and serious genetic neuromuscular condition called spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) type 1.  SMA is caused by a gene deletion which results in deterioration of Livie’s nerve cells connecting her brain and spinal cord to her body’s muscles. There is no cure and Livie has its most severe type. Livie’s muscles used for activities such as crawling, walking, sitting up, moving her head, and even swallowing and breathing, are becoming progressively weaker and shrinking. Without any treatment, little Livie’s condition would continue to deteriorate and it would be unlikely that she would live past her 2nd birthday. Every child with SMA is different and little Livie’s future is very uncertain. <br /><br />Treatment options for little Livie are very limited.  Our best hope for a better life for Livie is a once-off gene therapy called Zolgensma, which is currently only available in USA. It costs approximately US$2,100,000. Studies have shown that Zolgensma can substantially improve quality of life. Livie's antibody test qualifies her for the treatment. We are against the clock as Zolgensma is only available to children under the age of two years. <br /><br /><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>Little Livie’s Story</strong></span><br /><br />Little Livie was born on the 26th August 2019. We have never felt a love like this. It was incredible for us to see our first child smile, laugh and babble for the first time and watch her develop her little bright, affectionate and loving personality. Livie brings such joy and happiness to our lives every day and her smile can brighten the whole room even on the rainiest Irish day.<br /><br />We grew concerned as Livie missed some of her development milestones. We contacted her GP and were eventually referred to Crumlin Children’s Hospital. Our world changed forever on 9th April when little Livie was diagnosed with SMA type 1. This condition affects approximately one in every 10,000 babies. It had already been such a hard time for our family with the COVID-19 lockdown. Due to hospital policy on social distancing, Karen (Livie’s mum) was alone when given the diagnosis and Keith (Livie’s dad) was alone when he heard the diagnosis over the phone. It is something that will stay with us and our family for the rest of our lives. We were left devastated and one of the hardest parts of this process is being isolated without support from our family and friends during this difficult time.<br /><br />SMA does not affect Livie’s cognitive ability. She remains a bright, alert and bubbly little girl, curious about everything she sees and desperate to experience life. Livie’s smile and laugh are infectious. She loves engaging with people and wants to be in the thick of every conversation around her. Normal infections and illnesses such as a chest infection can be very serious for Livie, possibly life-threatening. The current COVID-19 pandemic is so worryingly dangerous for Livie. Karen will be Livie’s full time carer as Livie needs support all day and every day. Her days and weeks are busy with medical appointments and check-ups.<br /><br />Livie has received her first dose of another treatment called Spinraza through a lumbar puncture in Ireland. We remain hopeful that Spinraza will prolong Livie’s life and allow Livie to gain a degree of head control and sit with extra support. We have been advised that Livie will still need respiratory and feeding intervention to survive. She is already struggling with her breathing and coughing. She needs to wear an oxygen mask every night. This is very uncomfortable for Livie and she struggles to sleep with it. It is very unlikely that Livie will ever stand or walk.<br /><br />We are fundraising for Zolgensma because we could never afford to pay for this treatment by ourselves. Our dream for Livie is to give her the best chance at life possible. Zolgensma is our best hope to do this. If we are unable to raise enough funds to pay for little Livie’s treatment, we will put all donations towards Livie’s care with the hope of giving her the most comfortable and happy life possible.
