<b>Christian Woke Up Unable to Walk.</b>
<br /><br />On June 5, 2026, Christian woke up with excruciating lower back pain and suddenly <b>couldn’t stand or walk</b>. What initially seemed like a mysterious injury quickly became a <b>life-threatening medical emergency.</b> Over the following weeks, doctors discovered <b>massive blood clots throughout his legs and pelvis caused by two rare clotting disorders</b>: Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) and Lupus Anticoagulant. To save his life, surgeons performed <b>three emergency thrombectomy surgeries in just nine days, removing an astonishing 111 inches of blood clots from his body.</b>
<br /><br />Christian is incredibly grateful to be alive, but his journey is far from over. His doctors expect <b>6–12 months</b> of recovery as he rebuilds his strength, regains his mobility, and works toward walking independently again. <b>During this time, he is unable to work or earn an income</b> and is <b>currently unable to care for himself independently</b>, relying on others for everyday tasks such as showering, transportation, meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, and other essential daily needs. <b>He now depends on these services simply to get through each day while he focuses on healing.</b>
<br /><br />While insurance has covered much of the emergency medical care, recovery itself comes with <b>overwhelming financial challenges</b>. Physical therapy, caregiving assistance, transportation, meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, rent, medications, and other basic living expenses continue to add up while he has <b>no income and no savings</b>. Thank you for being part of my journey.”</i><br /><br /><b>The Full Story: The Day That Everything Changed</b><br /><br /><b> On June 5, 2026, Christian McGhee woke up and could not walk. </b>Not because it hurt to walk. Not because walking was difficult. Christian literally could not walk. The pain in his lower back was immediate, severe, and debilitating. Standing was nearly impossible. Moving was agonizing. 
<br /><br /><span>Fortunately, his roommate Josh was home to help him and contact the EMT’s, who put him into an ambulance. </span><b>Christian was rushed to Hospital #1, believing he would receive answers and treatment. Instead, the next five days became a nightmare. </b><br /><br /><b>Five Days Without Answers<br /></b> <br /><b>From June 5 through June 10, Christian's condition continued to deteriorate.</b> The pain spread from his lower back into his groin and inner thighs became overwhelming. Simple
movements that most people take for granted became painful and exhausting. Each day brought more fear. Each day brought more frustration. <b>And despite the severity of his symptoms, no diagnosis was found. </b>
<br /><br /><b>Christian and his family repeatedly requested a lower-extremity ultrasound</b>, to rule out dangerous blood clots in his legs and lower body. A simple lower extremity ultrasound was never performed.
<br /><br /><b>Eventually, Hospital #1 discharged him without a diagnosis. </b>Christian appealed the discharge decision in an effort to remain hospitalized and continue searching for answers. The appeal temporarily delayed his release and gave him a few additional days in Hospital #1.<br /><br /><b>But the appeal was ultimately denied. </b>He was discharged anyway. Still in severe pain. He struggled to stand and to walk a few feet. No answers. No diagnosis. <b>What nobody knew at the time was that dangerous blood clots were continuing to grow exponentially throughout his body.</b>
<br /><br /><b>One Hour Changed Everything
<br /></b><br /><b>Immediately after being discharged on June 10, Christian went directly to Hospital #2</b>. Everything changed. Within approximately one hour, doctors performed the lower-extremity ultrasound Christian had been requesting. <b>The test revealed extensive and life-threatening blood clots caused by Lupus Anticoagulant (LAC) and Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS), a rare autoimmune blood-clotting disorder and a blood clot blockage of his Inferior vena cava (IVC), the largest vein in the body</b>. A treating physician later told Christian something he and we will never forget: <br /><br /><b>Had he not received treatment, he likely would not be alive today. Five days earlier, Christian
thought he had back pain. Now he was fighting for his life.</b><br /><br /><b>A Fight for Survival
</b><br /><br />What followed was not one surgery. Not two surgeries. <b>Christian had three separate thrombectomy surgeries in nine days.</b>
<br /><br />Even after aggressive intervention and powerful clot-dissolving medications, the blood clots continued returning in full force. <b>Christian's vascular surgeons/physicians, removed approximately 111+ inches of blood clots from his legs (lower extremities), which is more than nine feet of blood clots</b>. Doctors are still working to determine the right long-term treatment plan to stop future clot formation and prevent recurrence. 
<br /><br />Once medically stable, Christian is expected to spend time in inpatient rehabilitation followed by extensive outpatient physical therapy. <b>Recovery is expected to take up to one year as Christian rebuilds his strength, regains his mobility, and works toward walking independently again.</b><br /><br /><b>The Reality Behind the Success
</b><br /><br /><b>From the outside, it may appear that Christian was winning. </b>The awards. The performances. The businesses. The accomplishments. And in many ways, he was. Christian earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Manhattan School of Music. He received BMI's Future Jazz Master Award. 
<br /><br />He has performed with world-class artists, premiered original works to sold-out audiences, taught students, built businesses, and dedicated his life to helping other people succeed. 
<br /><br /><b>But there is another side to the story that very few people know and understand</b>. Like countless artists, freelancers, and entrepreneurs in New York City, Christian has spent years fighting an uphill financial battle. Despite
working relentlessly, performing, teaching, composing, building businesses, applying for jobs, and pursuing every opportunity available to him, he continued falling deeper into debt year after year. Help Christian Recover After a Medical Crisis

The goal was to show a small number of neighbors that someone cared about them. <div>A family we love is going through an unimaginable tragedy. A devastating fire at 207 Dyckman Street has left a mother and her three children—Alexa (18), Alonzo (9), and Alison (5)—hospitalized. The three children are currently intubated and in critical condition after suffering burns and smoke inhalation. The youngest, Alison, was pulled from the building unconscious and had to receive CPR. Their mother is also in the hospital, injured and unable to be by their side the way she would want to be during this heartbreaking time.

<div>The Inwood Butterfly Sanctuary is buzzing with life once again and the color of pollinator flowers are beginning to bloom! Monarch butterfly season has officially begun, and we’ve been working hard to prepare a thriving, safe environment for these miraculous pollinators right here in the heart of our beloved Inwood community.

<div>Once a common and inspiring sight, this iconic species are endangered in our area and since 2019 we decided and started to do something about it.

<div>Over the past few months, our small team of dedicated volunteers has invested hundreds of dollars (we’ll be sharing the receipts) and countless hours of hard work into creating and maintaining a vibrant habitat for monarchs and other pollinators in public spaces, mostly focused on our original Sanctuary, situated on the ground of the old Convent of the Good Shepherd, which has become a vital food pantry and community space over the years.

<div>This includes an extensive habitat restoration program to encourage and sustain the migration of monarch butterflies through northern Manhattan, a vital part of the Atlantic “flyway”.

Help Our Community Garden Save Monarch Butterflies

<div>Over the past couple of years, you have helped keep thousands of tennis balls out of landfills by placing them in my recycle bin. THANK YOU. I have been collecting those balls and shipping them to an organization called “RecycleBalls” at my own personal expense. Specifically, RecycleBalls sent me a package of 10 cardboard boxes with pre-paid return-shipping labels attached. Each box holds 200+ balls. I’d collect the balls, fill a box, send it back, collect more balls, fill another box, send it back, etc.

<div>When I began this project, a package of 10 boxes was $200. Now, it’s $475. As much as I would like to continue doing this, the cost is prohibitive. Thus, this appeal. <div>The Indian Road Playground is one of my favorite places to hang out with my son and his buddies. We need new sand this year for the sand pit.  Additionally, the Sand Day Team would also like to purchase or build a job box for the future.  This job box would hold materials for sand day including a screen for sifting sand, a few brooms for sweeping up sand, as well as rakes and gloves. The ultimate goal is to replenish the sand each year.  We were quite successful last year and with your help, we can do it again!

<div>The Parks Department is responsible for the upkeep of playgrounds, but not the replenishment and maintenance of sand. That is up to us.

The Parks Department, families, and other community-based organizations all work together to get the old sand out and the new sand in. More details will follow about Sand Day itself, but what we need now is the funding to purchase sand, supplies and a job box or job box materials.

<div>Her name was Maria Luísa Perez, and for over 50 years, Washington Heights was her home.

<div>She came from the Dominican Republic and met her husband, Hernan, here. Together, they built a life rooted in love, where she gave everything she had to the people she cherished most. She raised her children with patience and devotion. Whenever we needed her, she was there—no questions asked, with a love that knew no limits. That was simply who she was.
</div>
<div>She made everyone around her feel at ease with her humor, her cooking, and her warm presence. She had a way of easing even the hardest moments with a laugh, of showing up for people in ways they didn’t even realize they needed. Taking care of others came as naturally to her as breathing.
</div>
<div>She is survived by her beloved husband, Hernan, and her children, Hernanzito, Miladys, Ofelia, and Moises, along with her grandchildren and the many lives she touched over five decades in her community.
</div>
<div>The past eight months were incredibly difficult. She was in and out of the hospital, and we gave everything we had to be by her side every step of the way.
</div>
<div>We now want to ensure she receives the dignified burial she deserves after a life spent giving so much to others.
</div>

<div>I grew up Caribbean in Harlem/Washington Heights in New York City, surrounded by family, culture, noise, love, and the kind of upbringing where you learn early to keep your head down and push through pain. That’s what I watched my immigrant family do so that’s what I was taught. You figure it out. You do not ask for help. You do not let people see when you are struggling. That is what I carried with me my whole life. Especially as the son of a soldier and veteran.

<div>Then I moved across the country to Los Angeles to chase the career I believed in. I don’t regret this decision, because it’s brought so many gifts and blessings to my feet. I left behind my entire family, all the people who raised me, the community that shaped me. I knew it would be hard, but I never expected to be dealing with the heaviest medical chapter of my life while being so far from home. There are days when the distance hits me harder than anything else. Days when I wish I could walk into my mother’s kitchen and feel grounded again, but instead I am waking up alone in another round of doctor’s appointments, trying to hold myself together in silence.

<div>For a long time now, I have been stuck in a cycle of cancer testing and tumor screenings between a mass in my chest and a potential mass in my bladder. Scan after scan. Biopsies. Specialists. Second, third and fourth opinions. Results that come back unclear over and over again, just so I can be handed off to the next "professional", which only leads to more tests, more waiting, more bills, and more fear sitting in my gut. Waiting weeks or months for answers while trying to stay focused on my life has been draining in a way I never knew was possible.

<div><span>On top of that, I had been losing an extreme amount of blood regularly because of an unknown mass in my bladder. Some mornings I’d wake up already exhausted. Some days I’d feel myself fading before the day even began. There have been emergency visits and painful episodes that I had to face alone because my people are on the other side of the country. The greatest thing I ever did was finally tell them what was going on. </span>

<div><span>So now, I’m building the courage to telling you guys. When terrifying results end up in my inbox, I cannot just call someone in my family to meet me at the hospital. I have to sit with it. That kind of loneliness does something to you.</span><br />

<div>I stayed quiet about all of this for so long. I kept telling myself I could fight through it the same way I fought through everything else in my life. I tried to work harder. I tried to hide the fear. I tried to convince myself that I would somehow catch up on the bills that kept hitting me one after another. But the truth is that I am drowning. The medical debt has grown to a place I cannot manage on my own anymore while keeping my career afloat. It is affecting my mental health, my body, my work, and my ability to stay present in my own life and work.

<p>My name is Felipe Coronel. You guys know me as Immortal Technique. For the past two months, I’ve been conducting food runs to the elderly, the immunocompromised, the disabled, and the mothers with small children across many communities in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and other New York City areas. The stimulus check is gone. Social security doesn’t always cover the expenses many elders have. New York City runs on tourism, and no one is coming here now. With jobs scarce, a police force in disarray, an ongoing pandemic, mass shortages more commonplace and uncertainty among our people, now is a time more critical than ever to show our love and support to the community.<br /><br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/48823168_1592336744749940_r.jpeg" alt="48823168_1592336744749940_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br />We forget how many elders in our community are unable to stand on three-hour long lines outside of pharmacies and grocery stores, who are taking care of our grandchildren, and who have taken care of us in our times of need. Imagine that you’re not a young person brimming with confidence and you’re an 80 year old person who grew up with 12 channels on TV. Now every channel tells you something different, some say the virus is a hoax (they then since corrected themselves) or they fear monger without solutions. Many elders are confused and don’t know what to believe from who. <br /><br />Voting 25 times every century doesn’t create a democracy. It is the institutions that protect the civil liberties of the people that when chipped away at crumble the structure. The elders in our community are the bedrock upon which all of our lives are built on, now more than ever we want to support them. Over the past 8 weeks I have invested almost $10,000 of my own money into the program. All the people who help out are volunteers and 100% of the funds raised will go to food and medical supplies that we deliver to affected communities. As with the Haiti and Afghanistan trips, we will publish all the money spent and received and be transparent with everyone who donated.<br /><br />The Rebel Army Runs aims to raise roughly $30,000 for a summer long program (or longer if we exceed our goal) where we deliver a weeks worth of food, canned goods, feminine products, diapers, supplies and basic children’s medicine to a suffering community every week in NYC and LA. I have done this in others countries, and all it took was a few people working and a lot of voices spreading the word. <div>Since September 2021, I’ve been experiencing radical symptoms of encephalopathy, from hallucinations and extreme paranoia to visual disturbances and psychosis. It’s been a grueling path getting blood work, a spinal tap, being misdiagnosed as bipolar in the psych ward, seeing many neurologists, and now finally getting some treatment. In April of 2022, I received 3 high-dose steroid infusions, which significantly improved symptoms but did not result in full resolution. In July of 2022, I received an additional 3 days of IV steroids. This time there was no improvement. While our working diagnosis is autoimmune encephalitis, or severe brain inflammation, we lack the necessary specific markers to confirm the diagnosis. Instead, we are forced to view treatment as experimental.

<div>The next step in treatment is IVIG, a costly medication that insurance is unlikely to cover given my lack of specific markers. Cost out of pocket is likely to be around $70k per person, or $140k total for my brother and me. If we have a partial response, then PLEX (plasma exchange) would be the next first-line treatment, which would total $100k each. We will likely have to pay the sum of these bills out-of-pocket because our elevated markers (particularly elevated protein in the spinal fluid, indicating brain damage) are non-specific for encephalitis, meaning insurance won't want to cover it. I have been out of work for a year due to this illness. The total cost for treatments is a significant financial stretch for my family, considering both my twin brother and I have this condition. We don’t know if we’ll need to pursue further treatment after IVIG or start looking for a diagnosis from scratch if we have no response. There are a lot of unknowns, but what is certain is our path to health will be expensive. So I’m here asking for some support for medical bills, this upcoming treatment, and money to continue paying normal life bills. Thank you.

If you’ve been following the journey of Saigon Social, you will know how heartbreaking this is for its owner Helen Nguyen, for us as her friends and for the members of the Saigon Social community, including its staff, its patrons, and all the people she has selflessly helped over the last two years.

<div>Since the very beginning, Saigon Social, a restaurant that has only ever existed in a pandemic, has been faced with hardship, with one incident after another. From gas outages, sudden shutdowns, labor shortages, Helen’s journey with Saigon Social was documented by Gary He for the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/03/20/business/saigon-social-coronavirus-pandemic.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">New York Times</a>  and what touched all of us was not only her perseverance through tough times, but her heart and sincere kindness. In what has been extremely difficult times for the elderly Asian community, Helen has been a shining light for them. She cooks for Asian seniors who look forward to her meals every week as part of Heart of Dinner and Feed Forward, two organizations focused on fighting food insecurity. She regularly makes sure Mr Chen, an elderly man who collects cans near her restaurant, is fed and taken care of. When he was assaulted during a time of increased Anti-Asian hate crimes, she hosted a pop up event and raised funds for him.

It was broken so she couldn’t really play a tune but, it was enough to captivate him. From that moment, Mebrakh knew he had to get one! <br /><br />“My birthday was fast approaching; I was given the option to buy a second-hand clarinet or the latest games console which, at the time, was a Nintendo DS. Without hesitation, I chose the clarinet. From there, I taught myself some pieces with the ‘A New Tune A Day’ book and performed these at the Year 6 end of year party!<br /> <br />My secondary school had a scheme that required all incoming students to learn an instrument. I ended up choosing the cello as urged by my family; perhaps they weren’t fond of the relentless squeaking that came with me learning the clarinet…<br />Alongside this, I was offered some saxophone lessons as there was a vacancy. <br /> <br />I started having actual clarinet lessons in Year 9 at the age of 14 with the introduction of a new teacher. I very much enjoyed my clarinet lessons but would never practise my scales.<br />The school didn’t have an orchestra so I played in their wind group and jazz band during breaks and after school. I also went, on Monday evenings, to a jazz improvisation class - at World Heart Beat Music Academy - which was a great way to keep my saxophone skills up.<br /> <br />Towards the end of Year 12, I was told that Saturday music centres and youth orchestras were a thing! I applied to a centre, for a very late audition, and they made an exception and decided to see me. I was fortunate to be admitted with a full scholarship and finally, at 18, I experienced the unique; life-changing experience of playing with an orchestra.<br /> <br />My school loaned me an old pair of donated clarinets for use during my gap year. I didn’t yet own a pair and wanted to continue studying at the Saturday centre.<br /> <br />At this point, I had already been volunteering at a hospital and witnessed open heart surgery among many other medical procedures for work experience; I was excited to go down the medical route. However, I proceeded with the subject that I most enjoyed which was, of course, music. <br /> <br />As I was auditioning for music colleges, I decided to take my ABRSM Grade 8 Clarinet and Saxophone exams. This was probably the most I had ever practised, for anything, at that point! Much to my delight, I received 2 distinctions in my exams and admission with scholarships to all the institutions to which I applied. <br /> <br />I accepted a full-tuition scholarship at Royal College of Music and Lady Victoria Robey OBE was incredibly kind to buy me an alto saxophone and a pair of clarinets – my first professional-level instruments. <br /> <br />It was in my first year at RCM that I watched Chineke! Junior Orchestra perform at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre. I had never attended a classical concert outside of school before. I remember them playing Coleridge-Taylor and Grieg; the concert gave me goosebumps.<br />I contacted Chineke! Foundation immediately to see if I could land an audition or get involved in any way.<br />Chi-chi accepted my request, auditioned me via zoom and gave me the opportunity to play in some of their upcoming festivals and concerts. I had never felt more at home.<br /> <br />Since then, I have been fortunate to perform with Chineke! Orchestra and Chineke! Chamber Ensemble for CD and on stages worldwide, amongst other ensembles including my BBC Prom debut with Nu Civilisation Orchestra. I look forward to returning on stage with NCO for the Queen’s Jubilee at Queen Elizabeth Hall in June.<br /> <br />More recently, the final week of February to Mid-March was certainly my busiest patch yet. I had to prepare over 20 separate pieces of music, in total. This included repertoire for an orchestral project with Chineke!, my Juilliard audition in NYC and two programmes worth of chamber music for the tour with Chineke! Chamber Ensemble to Adelaide Festival, South Australia.<br /> <br />A day after returning from Australia, I received notification that I was successful in my audition and I then accepted a full scholarship to study for my Master of Music degree at the renowned Juilliard School. This was a huge blessing; I am so grateful to everyone that has supported me throughout my studies, and I am ever so excited for the next stage of my journey. I would like to thank you all for your kindness and support on this next chapter, THANK YOU SO MUCH! I feel very honoured” </strong>

<div>Earlier this month, after an irregular doctors appt our beloved Sam received the devastating news of Stage 1 Cervical Cancer. This means she needs surgery to remove a part of her cervix as soon as possible. This also means she had to make the incredibly painful decision of doing this for her health knowing it will take away all possibility to have children.

<div>While grieving for herself, Sam also had to endure another terrible loss when her beloved cat Dill passed away at only 4 months old. This was a cat so dear to Sam and it has been devastating to see her go through this loss and now have to compete with a massive vet bill.

This support will help her cover her medical costs which will be significantly larger if she has to go out of network in order to find a doctor to do the surgery before it spreads. <p>Hello I am Hannah Friesen, a Canadian-American soprano. 
</p>

<p><span style="font-size:1.0625rem;">I graduated from Manhattan School of Music with a Master’s degree in classical voice in spring of 2019 and continued to live and work in NYC until the pandemic. This season of uncertainly took its toll on the performing arts and with so many changes in circumstance, I reluctantly left NYC feeling somewhat lost and defeated unsure of what my future in opera would look like.</span>
</p>

<p>At the beginning of 2021 I decided to take a chance and move to Philadelphia where several of my colleagues from the opera world had also relocated. In Philly I could continue my opera training with the same vocal teachers and coaches I’d worked with in Manhattan, now as a Principal Artist with the International School of the Voice.
</p>

<p>I could not be more grateful for this twist in my journey. As much as I loved my time in NYC, these last five months have allowed so many opportunities to flourish musically and professionally. As a young artist, I continue to make progress and as a result I’m delighted to now have the opportunity to train with the International School of the Voice (ISV) in Europe this summer. I couldn’t be happier! What an exciting next step for my growth as a performer in the early stages of my opera career.
</p>

Although we are unrelated, they are my dear friend and mentor, as well as an impactful member of the coffee community. Umeko has been in coffee for 14 years as a barista, manager, trainer, and espresso technician. They have also designed instant coffee manufacturing systems and participated in barista competitions. In 2018, Umeko launched Umeshiso, selling rainbow cupping spoons. This was the first of many ways in which they would continue to make the industry a more welcoming space for all. <br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/51932730_1602826618130113_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="51932730_1602826618130113_r.jpeg" /><br />In addition to their retail business, Umeko is an author, consultant, podcast host, and community organizer. They are candid about their experiences with mental health diagnoses and vocal about their journey in learning about anti-blackness and racism. Umeko actively works towards becoming a better advocate and ally for all people of marginalized identities. The work that they do is so powerful and incredibly necessary as we move forward in making coffee a more equal, sustainable, and welcoming industry. Through all of this work, Umeko has truly done an incredible job of uplifting so many coffee professionals and small businesses. Their compassion and generosity are some of their greatest gifts and now it is time for them to be on the receiving end of the kind of support that they have given to so many others. My name is Umeko. My pronouns are they/them and she/her and I sell rainbow spoons for a living. I also help some small businesses with their social media. I write articles about coffee sometimes. And overall, I have a lot of projects. But with everything that I do, I apply the same ethos of wanting my products and services to be as affordable as possible for people who don’t have a ton of money. Like my spoons, I sell on a sliding scale and offer rates that are very affordable. So as a result, I work all the time. I work seven days a week, but I never really have any money. And that’s been okay with me because I don’t need a lot, but this month I have had a cascade of really disastrous luck that has resulted in $4,000 of unforeseen business expenses. And that represents all of the money that I had to pay my rent, to buy food, let alone covering my operating expenses for my business for the next month and a half. So the next month and a half is just a big question mark for me and I am scared. And I can’t work any more than I am already working to make any extra money. There just aren’t enough hours in the day and I need help. <br /><br /><br />2020 has been really hard for everyone and for small businesses and my business is no exception to that. I didn’t qualify for PPP loan. I don’t know why but I didn’t. I have just been trying my best to make it work. I saved as much money as I could and placed my biggest order of spoons yet and felt really nervous and scared about but just was like “okay, i am going to go for it”. I work with this awesome small factory in China and they custom make all my spoons for me. I have a huge amount of trust in them and was just like “okay, we are going to do it. We are going to go for it”. The shipment had all of these issues with FedEx and with customs and there were all of these communication problems. I have been on the phone for like 5 days straight just trying to understand what is happening with the shipment and it is now being returned to China and then they have to ship it back to me a second time. And that is a delay and that’s too bad, but the huge issue is that I have to pay for the return shipping to China and the shipping back to the US. That is $4,000 and again, that’s all the money that I have. <br /><br /><br />So now, I am just in the hole and I don’t know how I am going to survive, basically. For the next month and a half, I just, it’s just a big question mark. So that is why I am asking for your help. I wish that I could do it by myself you know, and I have feelings of embarrassment over having to ask for help like this, but I just need help right now. Anything that you have at all, to contribute any way that you can support, I really really appreciate it. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch this and if you have a few dollars, even just a little bit, anything would be so appreciated. Hello,<br /><br />We wanted to let everyone know how much we appreciate everyones generosity.  Thank you all a million times.  The campaign was a huge success thanks to all of you wonderful people that donated and that shared the story.  Everyone is starting to find new places to call home for now and your kindness is definitely going to help.  The funds will be divided evenly among the 4 of them so they can begin again.  <br /><br />Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!<br /><br /><br /><br />Hello,<br /><br />     I’m starting a GoFund Me Page for my friends and coworkers, Thum, Gin, Paul and Yui, who are have been dealing with both unexpected unemployment and the aftermath of a devastating fire that broke out in the Queens building they live in. <br /><br />     We are restaurant workers in New York City, and like the rest of our community have been both struggling with the impact of the pandemic and gratified by the outpouring of assistance and compassion shown by the citizens of our awesome city.  Our company closed its doors on March 14th and since then we have all been effectively unemployed.  If you know Thum, Gin, Paul and Yui, you know what kind, bright and positive people they are, always reaching out to their former coworkers and friends to check in on them, providing humor, love and friendship and trusting they would get back up off their feet. Even as they have struggled to obtain unemployment assistance because of the overwhelmed system they have always counted themselves as lucky, that they were healthy, and looking forward to the day they could start working and return to some sense of normalcy. <br /><br />     Unfortunately, on the morning of May 8th, Gin woke up to the smell of smoke in her bedroom.  She immediately jumped up and woke her roommate Thum.  Smoke and flames were eating up her wall.  They tried putting out the fire with buckets of water but were quickly overwhelmed by the smoke and heat and rushed out of the apartment along with the rest of the building, including their upstairs neighbors, Paul and Yui.  When the smoke cleared, the four of them realized that absolutely everything they owned was lost, save the PJs and slippers they had run out in. <br /><br />     They are thankful they are alive and are keeping up their spirits, but I know the anxiety and sense of loss is weighing heavily on them. Wherever they perform, the duo frequently collaborates with local musicians and performers, rendering them a communal, “semi-modular” ensemble. Through thoughtful, inclusive, and conceptual programming practices and educational programs, the duo facilitates engaging and visceral experiences with sound that heighten awareness of corporeal, spacial, and material resonance. <strong><br /><br /></strong>We are about to embark on the <strong>six-week tour of a lifetime to Australia</strong> from the beginning of August to mid-September! panSonus Australia Tour Fund

Devin Moore is a 20-year old violist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania currently studying Classical Viola Performance at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. He has recently been accepted to the Juilliard School to continue his studies with his private teacher: Samuel Rhodes. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Devin to study at one of the best music conservatories in the world with his amazing teacher, introducing a brand-new world of musical opportunities and endeavors. Though he is very grateful for the scholarships he has received, the remaining costs and expenses are too much, even after loans and work study is taken into consideration. With his current financial situation (single mother supporting two children, one income, etc.), Devin is not able to afford the remaining expenses, even with the assistance of outside scholarships. Help Devin achieve his goal of being able to study at the Juilliard School this coming fall. Any amount is cherished and appreciated.

Henry and Natalia feel eternally grateful.<br /><br />Please know that together we are helping Henry and Natalia rebuild their lives. <br /><br />These past days are a testament to the power of love. <br /><br />Thank you.<br /><br />Adriana Teresa<br /><br /><br />------------------------<br /><br />As some of you may have heard my dear longtime friend <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10156487368283444&amp;set=pcb.10156487368578444&amp;type=3&amp;theater" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Jazz Drummer Henry Cole</a>  and his partner Natalia woke up in the middle of the night on Saturday, September 8th to find that their New York apartment had caught on fire in just a matter of minutes. <br /><br />The backstory: Henry and Natalia were both sleeping when this happened. Natalia was awakened by a strong smell of smoke and when she opened their bedroom door, she realized that the entire apartment was covered in smoke and burning.  They eventually realized it was coming from the other side of the apartment, so they left as quickly as possible and called 911. <br /><br />Later on, after speaking with the firemen and police, they learned that there had been an electrical fire in their apartment. They are so thankful the Firefighters were able to get there in time but a majority of the apartment (and everything in it) was not salvageable. They lost TVs, beds, couches, rugs, electronics, kitchen appliances, clothes, shoes, art, etc. Can you even imagine losing your entire home? I sure can’t. <br /><br />Henry and Natalia are the kindest, hardworking, creative, talented and giving people. I have known Henry for over twenty years—and I consider him family. They are currently living in a hotel thanks to the Red Cross and will be with friends (including me) as they try to redo their entire life. The whole thing will take time but they need our help and support. They lost their home. <br /><br />I am kindly asking for your help. <strong>Sgt. Daniel Pedersen US Marine Corps (ret.)</strong><br /><br />This is Dan Pedersen, a 24 year old Sergeant who just finished his 5 year tour of duty, with the US Marine Corps. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, and served in the Middle East and in the South Pacific theater. He was officially discharged from the military on February 3rd, 2018. <br /><br />Shortly after returning home Dan developed a cough. He worked through the pain and discomfort but knew he needed further medical attention. Doctors found a tumor in his right lung on April 26th.  Dan then had his first surgery on April 29, 2018 and was diagnosed with a small cell Neuroendocrine Tumor. It is extremely rare to find this form of aggressive metastatic cancer in such a healthy young man. He has chosen a special form of immunotherapy, that is not covered by his insurance. This therapy includes two-three years of strict adherence to a personalized medical protocol. Through many miracles Dan is able to travel to receive these treatments. <br /><br />Currently, Dan is working as a certified EMS provider in downtown Salt Lake City for a ambulance agency. One of his many aspirations includes attending nursing school to further his education within the medical field. With proper treatment, Dan will still be able to accomplish these goals, have a family and live a normal, healthy life.<br /><br />Dan's friends and family have set up this GOFUNDME.COM account for the purpose of raising funds needed for this specialized immunotherapy treatment. US Marine battling cancer

Hey everybody! This is pretty lengthy, but I wanted to be as authentic as possible.<br /><br />As most of you probably now know, a few years ago I finally had the courage to change my major to Music Performance to pursue my true passion: singing. The past few years have been some of the most amazing and challenging years of my life. Both I and my voice have come a long way. Within the past couple of months, I have been presented with the opportunity to audition for the best voice/opera programs in the country: Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, University of Connecticut School of Fine Arts, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, University of Michigan School of Music, and Manhattan School of Music. The costs for this trip include airfare, transportation to and from the airport, food, and a small amount just in case of an emergency. So far, I have been able to purchase airfare for my trips to Indiana and Connecticut, my first two auditions. Fortunately, I have been able to make arrangments to stay with both friends and friends of friends during my travels. I truly believe that I have the potential to make it one day, and this is the next necessary step in the development of my voice/performance skills and in my career. My current goals as a vocalist are to become a successful recording artist, a world-renowned performer, and to one day perform at the Metropolitan Opera. I want to make everyone that has come into my life proud, to bring people happiness and love through this gift that I have been given, and to be able to provide financially for myself, my family, and others doing what I love.<br /><br />The past few years have been difficult ones for me and my family, especially this past year. Last spring, my father was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. There was only one doctor in the nation that could safely perform the procedure necessary to save him, causing my parents to effectively move to Houston for three and a half months. I lived with my family at the time, so they were also continuing to pay rent on the house we lived in here in Fairbanks, with me helping out wherever and whenever I could. My father's illness forced him to have to retire earlier than planned, and one of the stipulations of his retirement was that the government send him back to our home state of Texas. They left last month and are now looking for a house there. As I still had a year left of school to complete (graduating this May!), I had to find a new place to stay. Luckily, a close friend had just bought a house and I moved in, renting one of the rooms. Rent is very reasonable but, as I am only able to work part time, it is still quite difficult to make the payments. <br /><br />In September, my sister passed away after struggling with an illness for a few months. It was a huge blow for all of us emotionally, and she will be sorely missed (although we believe that she's now in a much better place!). It also placed upon us a huge financial burden, as she did not have life insurance. Plans we had for our dividends suddenly went out of the window as we had to make arrangements for my sister's funeral, as well as other expenses, such as travelling to Texas for the funeral. These things, in addition to other extemporaneous expenses throughout the year (such as my dad travelling back to Texas for check-ups with his doctor prior to them permanently moving there) have made this year difficult. <br /><br />In addition to rent, I must also pay the rest of my tuition for the semester. After I return from auditions (March 1st), I will have to make a payment on my tuition and will have two payments remaining (April 1st and May 1st adding up to 3,052.25 total). I only have one semester left, and would love to be able to graduate on time. <br /><br />Any amount you can donate will be much appreciated. Admittedly, it is somewhat embarrassing for me to do this - I was always taught to keep one's private life private and to try and be as self-sufficient as possible. But at this point I undeniably need help. As the old adage goes, it takes a village. I know that many of you believe in my gift and career; the support and encouragement I have received over the past few years has been immensely humbling and I am forever grateful for it. Graduate Audition Fund!

Dear Friends,<br /><br />I'm reaching out to you because we're starting a <strong>GoFundMe campaign for James K. Larsen and Rainer</strong> of Hazlet, NJ.  Jim is suffering from neck and spine injuries which cause severe chronic pain and weakness in his extremities.  In September 2017 Jim underwent his 3rd operation in the cervical spine to remove multiple herniated discs which were impinging on his spinal chord. He still requires surgery to his lumbar spine but due to current circumstances he has to push that off as the risk is very high. <div>On November 8th our Washington Heights 6 floor building experienced a 5-alarm fire, leading to 9 people being injured, 3 of which were firefighters.

<div>At least 6 families who were on floors 4-6 have been displaced and have lost everything, and now 21 units from every floor have received a vacate order due to flooding, fire damage, and ceilings caving in.

<div>Many of these community members have a long history of living in this building, some having a lineage here going back generations. This fire has devastated so many, and we want to support our neighbors in providing them with whatever they may need to get through this devastating time.
