<div>The chosen family and friends of Makeda Coaston want to raise at least £6000 to support six months of one-to-one care. Makeda’s capacity to care for herself has been seriously impacted by dementia.
</div>
<div>In May 2025, Makeda entered a nursing home in North London and is lovingly supported by us, her friends and chosen family. We visit her on a regular basis, to provide additional care and support. 
</div>
<div>We want to help Makeda stay connected to her wider world through supplementing the level and quality of her individual care. Witnessing Makeda’s rapid deterioration, it is clear to us that she needs more daily 1:1 support and stimulation including accompanied trips out. This support will be provided by a very special woman who gave Makeda exceptional loving care for more than 10 months prior to being admitted to the care home.

<div>Those who met Makeda will know of the significant contribution she made throughout her working life. Makeda was a community activist, a cultural animateur, researcher, journalist and consultant. Her sphere of influence was global, spanning the USA, UK, Caribbean and Africa. She held many senior roles in the art and cultural sector including Chief Executive for the Minorities Arts Advisory Service (MAAS) and leading the London Mayor’s Commission on African and Asian Heritage until her retirement in 2009. She was also a founding Director of The Ubele Initiative.

<div>"On Friday December 13, eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackled a fire at a shop with flats above on Willesden High Road.

<div>Most of the ground floor and part of the void between the ground and first floor were damaged by fire. Firefighters rescued two people from the third floor using a short extension ladder. Three further people left the property before the Brigade arrived. They were all taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews."

<div>The Ankh Wellbeing Centre has been part of the African Caribbean community for the last 33 years.
</div>
<div>Established by the family in the mid 90s, the business started off in Shepherds Bush Market before heading over to Adelaide Road, W12 where they spent a further 17 years.
</div>
<div>The Ankh Wellbeing Centre moved to Willesden High road, NW10 in 2020 where they worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic, assisting the communities most vulnerable.
</div>

<div>Focusing on health and wellbeing, The Ankh Wellbeing Centre is a hub for holistic health and natural remedies. Customers often require health support and guidance or sometimes a simple chat, whilst also giving opportunities to other small businesses. The centre was a hosting ground for events and talks and has been the lifeblood of Sister Ivie who has dedicated her life to serving the community with her family and close friends.

<div>This page has been set up so that we (the community that has benefitted from the existence of the Ankh Centre) can actively help to support Sister Ivie and the centre in their time of need. Whilst building insurance will bring the shop and flats above back to a habitable condition - the contents and fixtures aren't included.

<div>Greetings all, my name is Eboni and I have finally gained the confidence to apply for my medical degree. To my surprise I have been accepted onto the course. Unfortunately I am not eligible for student finance and have to cover the tuition fees in order to do the course. I am incredibly hard working and have the stamina and brains to do well in this course. My degree starts in January which only gives me just over 3 months month to raise £4,000 for the 1st year and £4,000 for each if the 3 year degree. Urgent Medical Assistance Needed

Black Rooted Academy's vision is to create a safe learning space for alternative education and youth leadership wellbeing. Within this education initiative, the aim is to provide national curriculum support, cultural and language teachings, music and media lessons, physical and mental health awareness and Black history studies from the African diaspora. <br /><br />Supplementary schools have been an efficient way of supplying communities with enriched educational sessions that have challenged the status quo, also due to their accessibility, they are considered an effective way to facilitate programmes that not featured in mainstream education. This long community pillar has a long-standing history with its source rooted in survival against discrimination. In the 1960s, Black communities in the UK came together to create 'supplementary schools' as a way of fighting back against the racism and inequality that their children were facing in mainstream schooling. This enabled neighbourhoods to empower themselves through volunteers of parents, activists and community support workers, mentors and religious leaders. The aim was to counteract the narratives of Black characteristic defamation and eradicate racial disparity across the many regions of inequalities.<br /><br />The end goal is to boost children’s confidence, raise standards and give each child a sense of belonging and identity. <div>Hi my name is Beverley , please help me raise funds for victims of natural hurricane disaster Melissa in Jamaica. Particularly <strong>Westmoreland</strong> rural area <strong>Petersville</strong>. <strong>100% of homes has been damaged and over 60% of residents have been displaced total homeless</strong>. The funds raised will <strong>help build concrete 2 and 1 bedroom structures for those families displaced and to repair damaged homes</strong>. Whilst the government is slowly getting cooperate areas help. The community are trapped, individuals are unable to move freely due to road damage.

<div>Living conditions worsen due to the hurricane, people living in over crowded conditions due to being displaced. We have aid workers on the ground to receive donations to help with this catastrophic disaster and to provide shelter. Food has been distributed by aid workers. However, there are no shelters for these individuals.
