<p class="p1" style="line-height:normal;"><span class="s1">When I was 16 years old, I was kicked out of my home after my family found out I was gay. It was a difficult and traumatic time for me because I felt like I was alone. I navigated the world being Black and Queer and somehow I made it out alive, but many are not as fortunate. I remember the feeling of hopeless back then, and many Black and Brown queer, trans, and gender non-conforming people still feel like this everyday. </span>

<p class="p1" style="line-height:normal;"><span class="s1"><b>SOFT: A Love Letter to Black Queer Men</b> is the newest project from Director and Choreographer <b>Kemar Jewel</b>. This visual love letter uses contemporary dance to help Black Queer men heal from trauma, connect as a community, and serve as a reminder to be SOFT with themselves and each other. The money collected for this project will go towards paying Black and Brown queer people for their performance and creative work on this video. <p class="p1" style="line-height:normal;"><span class="s1">My name is Stevie Jae Davis. I am a queer and trans/non-binary performer and teacher that really just wants my body to feel like home. In order to achieve that, I am planning on undergoing Top Surgery, (a procedure where the breasts are removed in order to bring gender euphoria). My relationship with my breasts is quite a negative one, it would be an understatement to say we are not friends. And what do you do with friends who are causing you pain? You remove them from your life. </span>

I am (*drum roll pleeeeease*) getting something off my chest! FOR REAL! IT'S HAPPENING JUNE 10TH and I'm SO excited! The surgery altogether is going to cost $10,698 and will be COMPLETELY out of pocket (and that's if everything goes well, so ya know, fingers crossed!!). For now, I'm focusing on getting the funds because as a freelance artist, WOOO it is tough to convince any bank that you need a loan to affirm your life, am I right? SO! This is where you come in. I'm the book writer and co-lyricist of <em>Too Bright to See, </em>Spicer Carr's and my new musical based on the Newbery Award-Winning novel by Kyle Lukoff<em>. </em>Spicer and I recently finished the fourth draft and we're ready for the next steps, which includes demo recordings, and planning for a premiere concert and our official industry reading. <strong>We urgently need your help in bringing this show to life. </strong>

<div>I don't have to tell you that the trans community is under blatant targeted attack. Representatives from our government including the President of the United States have called for my community to be institutionalized, or eradicated. They have normalized the demonization of our community that we rarely see support from our cis counterparts.

<div>Trans kids have been killed. There's data limitations on fatal violence against trans kids because police and media often deadname and misgender victims, and some deaths go unreported entirely. The Trevor Project did a study in 2024 that showed states that passed anti-transgender laws aimed at minors saw suicide attempts by transgender and gender nonconforming teenagers increase by as much as 72%. Trans kids deserve to live, and thrive.
