What they care about

Hi, I am fundraising for the permanent residency application fees of a SWANA community member. They have the status of an accepted refugee for years and have not yet succeeded to pay off their permanent residency appplication fees (which costs 635$). More delay in their case would result in a delay of them having a more stable status (citizenship and passport) in Canada as well as physical and mental stability. Without a permanent residency, they are unable to take out school loans, art grants and study, its harder to find employment, they are unable to participate in protests. My friend is also feeling stuck in the country without the ability to travel and is struggling with their mental health as a result of all of these limitations to their freedom and well-being. Thank you for your solidarity. They would like to remain anonymous so I've used photos I took in Nehirowisiw Aski where Indigenous guardians of the land are excercising their sovereignty against Law 97. This law gives so-called quebec the power to cut down up to 2/3 of forested area for the logging industry. Learn more at @checkpointparent on instagram.
