James Salyer has been a steady, nurturing presence in my life since I was 13 years old—long before he and my mom even met. He became the dad I needed, guiding me through a rough adolescence, and later, he was there for my children as a loving grandpa, tutor, life coach, and a safe shoulder to cry on. For over 20 years, James and my mom have built a life together, supporting each other and our family through every challenge.
Now, James is facing his toughest battle yet. He’s fighting AML leukemia and, after treatment failure, was recently hospitalized for sepsis, dangerously low platelets, and a brain bleed. As if that weren’t enough, my mom suffered a stroke and brain bleed in October 2025. She’s slowly recovering, but James has been her primary caregiver throughout her ordeal—even as his own health has declined. With both of them struggling, daily expenses, medical bills, and basic needs have become overwhelming.
On top of their health battles, James and my mom are also struggling with homelessness. After moving back from Portland last year, where James underwent chemo and a stem cell transplant, he lost his insurance and was asked to leave the housing provided for his treatment. Unable to work and with hardly any resources, they now live with my sister in a house that barely accommodates her family. The stress of shelter insecurity has only added to their burden.
It breaks my heart to see them in so much pain and uncertainty. I know God has a plan for them, but right now, they need help. Any support you can offer—whether it’s a donation, a prayer, or simply sharing their story—would mean the world to our family. Your kindness can help ease their burden and remind them they’re not alone in this fight. Thank you for considering a donation and for keeping James and my mom in your thoughts.
