Hi, I’m Abby Wheeler, and I’m reaching out to you today to support the incredible work of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in loving memory of Charlie Malpass.

Charlie was the best of us. He is known to many for his quiet, humble, and brilliant care as a pulmonary physician at UVA Health. His specialty was interventional pulmonary and bronchoscopy, where he would work countless hours to deliver diagnostic lung results to his patients and provide clear guidance for their next steps of treatment. As chemotherapy was infusing on the first day of his diagnosis with AML, Charlie was calling patients back with their own good news that their disease was not cancer, and he did so with such grace and humility.

Charlie was an avid runner, and that brought him a lot of comfort throughout his treatment and period of remission. His claim to fame is that he was out running (and winning his age group) in races as someone who had recently completed cancer treatment.

This half-marathon and fundraiser for LLS is dedicated to Charlie.

Hi! Frank Carter here! I am onto the next adventure on the Missouri River and am hoping to raise funds and awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. For those that do not know, I was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma (a rare type of aggressive blood cancer) in November of 2021. During my journey to remission, The Leukemia and Lymphoma society made such a difference for myself and my family. From educational opportunities, resources for research information, and financial support, this amazing organization helped to lessen the burden of what was, to say the least, a daunting journey. Thankfully, this month I am officially 3 years into remission! I am now off to canoe the Missouri River with my dog Amos and would love the opportunity to bring awareness and raise funds for this fantastic organization! Every dollar counts. Hello, I’m Anoushka Telang, a sophomore at Hightstown High School. I’m committed to making a difference for those affected by leukemia. The fight against cancer goes on, and there is no one I know who can say they do not have a friend or relative who has battled this terrible illness.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society raises significant funds to invest in cutting-edge research and world-class patient education and support programs, which are free of charge to patients. Hi, I’m Neil!

This November, I’m taking on one of the biggest challenges of my life: running the New York City Marathon. But I’m not just doing it for the medal — I’m doing it to support a cause that truly matters.

I’ve decided to dedicate my marathon to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), an organization working to fund blood cancer research, support patients and families, and bring us closer to a cure.

Cancer has touched the lives of so many people — some close to me, and others I’ve never met but whose stories have been shared. Blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma affect thousands of families every year, and LLS is at the forefront of the fight to change that.

Running 26.2 miles is a challenge, but it’s nothing compared to the battle cancer patients face every day. I’m running to honor their strength and to help raise funds that go directly toward groundbreaking research and life-saving support.
