<div>As a US Army combat veteran, I almost became one of the many statistics you read about. 22 veterans per day commit suicide. One is too many. The performing arts saved my life and became the most powerful form of catharsis for me. To share this healing experience with my fellow veterans, I created the non-profit, LA based theatre company: <strong>Warriors For Peace Theatre</strong> (EIN# 84-2384729).

Help Veterans Heal Through The Arts!

<div>Hello! My warm-hearted, hilarious, and wonderful husband, Jon Nagel, was recently diagnosed with oropharyngeal cancer. The main tumor is in his throat, right at the base of his tongue, and has metastasized to the lymph nodes on the right side of his neck. Treatment will be chemotherapy and radiation. He won't be able to work for awhile, and although we have insurance, it doesn't cover everything (and of course there are co-pays). Jon is in good spirits-- "terrifine," he says. A combination of terrified and fine! This kind of cancer has a good prognosis, and we're going to give it everything we've got to get him through it and out the other side. With your help, we can keep a roof over his head, food in the kitchen, and pay the newly astronomical PG&amp;E bills. Thank you so much for considering contributing to this fund!

There are many decisions currently being weighed for Matt's recovery: Where will he recover; who are the best providers to work with; what is the cost of medical in which country; when can he travel; <strong>how safe is Kyiv day to day</strong>; etc... There are many considerations underway.

None of us want to imagine Matt or his family moving through this without you.

<li>Matt will need to remain in Ukraine (which is not the most ideal scenario for him) to wait for a specialized medical plate to be made, then surgically placed. <li>Obviously we wanted to save the best for last... Until recently, Matt lost almost all motor function on the left side of his body. We just recevied this news and are ecstatic to share it! In the meantime, Matt's being transferred to a rehabilitation unit for two weeks while he awaits specialized medical technology that will be surgically placed to protect soft tissue - it arrives in the next 2-3 weeks. It should not surprise us if the sheer amount of energy &amp; LOVE all of you produced, somehow through the cosmic fabric of this matrix we're in, FOUND ITS WAY DIRECTLY TO MATT'S DOOR. His family and friends are grateful for one another and for you.

<div>For the last 12 months Matt has been tirelessly volunteering in the Ukraine - running medical &amp; food supplies to the front lines and to Ukrainian citizens in need. Now… Matt is in a Ukrainian hospital in critical condition himself. And needs our help.

Medical Care for Matt Mateiescu

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the untimely and sudden passing of Joshua D. Brooks in a tragic apartment fire. This occurred just weeks before he planned to come home to witness his oldest son graduate from high school and see him off to basic training.<br /><br />Josh was the loving father of five amazing children, an adored son, brother, nephew, uncle and best friend. His family and friends are devastated by the unexpected and heartbreaking loss as Josh was just 40 years old.<br /><br />Most recently, Joshua was living in Colombia, South America and the funds raised will be used to assist the family with the unexpected costs related to bringing Joshua home and holding a funeral. <br /><br />For those who knew Josh, they knew he loved his family and friends fiercely. He had a charismatic personality that instantly drew people to him. Josh was a loyal friend and was always quick to help in any way he could. If you called him with a problem, he would easily have you laughing, forgetting about your troubles within minutes.<br /><br />Joshua was a talented artist and writer- recently finishing his first children’s book and hoping to get it published when he returned to the United States. He had a passion for travel, fitness, and cooking. Some even say he was the best “punkin” roll maker in history.<br /><br />Josh served our country selflessly and valiantly in the United States Army Special Forces and retired as a First Sergeant which he had attained within his first ten years of service. He received many awards and decorations including the Iraq Campaign Medal with Four Campaign Stars, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal , Army Achievement Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal just to name a few. Josh served in Korea, did several tours in Iraq and was stationed at Ft. Hood, Ft. Bliss and Fort Lewis.<br /><br />Contributions to the fund would be greatly appreciated but we also ask for your prayers for the family. Josh Brooks Memorial Fund

<p>Help Me Help Austyn Overcome the Higher Education Curse of the Middle Class<br /><br />I don’t have kids of my own, so I’m trying to help a young person I know go to college. Austyn is a player and captain on the Alhambra High Lacrosse team, someone who is a great athlete and an even better person. She is soon going to graduate with a 4.1 GPA, and plans to go to college in the fall. But there’s the problem. She suffers from what I call <strong>the higher education curse of the middle class</strong>. As you know, if your family has lots of resources, paying for college is no problem. If your family has few resources but you have the grades, schools will pay for you to attend. But if your family has a middle class income, you often fall into that gray area where you have to shoulder most, if not all, of the costs of attending college, even though you may not have a lot of resources. That means you may get a few grants or scholarships, and either your family goes into hock paying the rest up front, or you as a student, graduate college with a large amount of school debt to pay off. (Obviously, that’s one of the biggest issues our nation faces right now: a huge collective pile of college loan debt.)
</p>

<p>That’s where my player, Austyn, finds herself. She was accepted by and plans this fall to attend my alma mater, San Diego State University, with an eye toward becoming a physical therapist or a physician’s assistant. But because of her family’s financial status, she doesn’t qualify for any federal or state grants, so she has to pay the $30,000 per year (crazy, right?!?) to live on campus and attend SDSU herself. (Thankfully, it wasn’t anything like that when I was there, or I never would have graduated - or I would have with debilitating debt.)
</p>

<p>Here’s a little more about Austyn. Not only did she play four years on Alhambra’s lacrosse team, she has always been an active member in our community and a well-rounded student. She has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school and taken numerous AP classes. Austyn’s other activities include playing clarinet in Alhambra’s marching band, playing varsity and club soccer, and she serves as Vice President of the school’s National Honor Society, and social media correspondent for the UNICEF Club and Key Club.
</p>

<p>Austyn lives at home with her mother and stepfather who are unfortunately unable to cover the costs of college. Austyn’s mother raised her and her two older brothers as a single mom, with no familial support, for the majority of Austyn’s life. Her father lives in Texas and has health issues mainly stemming from cancer which have him on a fixed income. If they were able, her parents and stepfather would gladly cover the full cost of school. 
</p>

<p>Austyn is working to lower the costs of college by applying to more than a dozen local, regional and national scholarships (and she is applying for more). She also works as a soccer coach for players from 4 to 18 years old.
</p>

<p>Now, you might ask, well, why doesn’t Austyn just go to junior college for a couple years to save money? That’s indeed a possible course of action. But she wants to have the full college experience, and I support that. There’s nothing like living on campus and fully immersing yourself in college life. I always say half of what you learn in college is about becoming an adult, managing your time without your parents looking over your shoulder, getting all your errands and chores done, while also tending to your studies and pulling great grades. That’s all much harder to do/learn when you live at home with your family while going to JC.
</p>

<p>So, I‘ve created this GoFundMe to help Austyn pay for college. I’ve already committed to personally supporting her education, but I need a lot of help from my friends. I don’t want her to graduate from school with $80,000+ worth of debt, so I want to raise enough money to cover as much of her education as possible.
</p>

<p>I know this is asking a lot, but I want to raise at least $25,000 to cover just over 20% of the cost of four years at San Diego State. If we can get 500 people to give $50, that gets us there. Together, we can help ensure that Austyn graduates with no huge loans to pay off. The more people who see this, the better, so please pass it on.

<p>For me, this is about helping a young person I have worked with for four years, who I know will do big things in life, but who will face significant challenges coming out of school without some major help along the way. I want to tell you about Derion Loman. People that know Derion know he is an artist whose passions lie in dance and human connection.  Derion’s friends, myself included, would all agree that he is patient, supportive, warm and hopeful.  He loves the challenge of learning new skills and growing daily. That is why he decided to pursue dance as a career at the age of 19. Now, 11 years later, he has had one of the most exciting dance careers he could ask for. The loving community and connections he has been introduced to have been some of the best the art world has to offer. From there, he has broadened his horizons to include colorguard, Cyr wheel, roller skating, flow arts, stunt work, and puppeteering. <br /><br />His journey has been fueled by the pursuit of these creative endeavors. They have been the catalysts for his constant growth and transformation as an artist. Particularly during this unprecedented, seemingly never-ending, time of uncertainty.  Derion says the most unexpected and rewarding gift has been seeing how he has inspired people. His journey has given others the hope to pursue and accomplish their own goals. That gift is priceless.  Unfortunately, he recently suffered a blow that made him temporarily lose one of the things he has always held onto. I sat staring in disbelief at the empty spot where my car had been less than 2 hours before. <strong>My car had been stolen.</strong> First and foremost, I am safe and incredibly thankful it took place while I was away from my vehicle. I immediately called the police. There was no answer. I called 7 more times over the next 45 minutes and never got through. I took the next steps and went to file a claim with my insurance. However, I was beyond shocked to find out my insurance doesn’t cover theft, nor the property inside the vehicle! My heart sank. It felt like a bowling ball was inside my chest. My car was fully paid off and inside were most of my dance clothes, my Cyr wheel and my roller skates. I was completely devastated. In an instant, everything that had lifted me up in quarantine and helped me bring joy to others was just…gone. I called the police again, and finally got through. At the end of filing the report, I was sent off with a “good luck...” delivered more-so in the tone of “fat chance.” I could feel the sadness, rage and hurt building in me. I began to weep. I have worked incredibly hard for everything I have and I’ve fought through many rejections and disappointments to emerge stronger on the other side, with sights set on an even bigger dream. I know many people have probably done the same for themselves. I expect people can identify with the level of devastation I am feeling. For the first time in a very long time, I felt hopeless. I felt stuck in a place of deep hurt and anguish. It has been a very difficult adjustment to this new reality. I am lucky to have an incredible group of friends who were there to help lift me up. Friends who reminded me that I belong to several loving communities. Communities that bring with them the strength and hope of many.<strong> It is my hope that I can call on my community of dancers, circus artists, skaters, artists, art-lovers, friends, family, and strangers who just want to help out of the kindness of their heart.”</strong><br /><br />We want to help our friend to be able to continue his<strong> artwork. Our goal</strong> is to<strong> raise enough money to replace as much of his stolen property as possible</strong>. <p><br />Recently I had a bit of a surprise. The unemployment money I was depending on suddenly <br />was revoked and I’m in a pickle. I’ve applied to jobs locally and that process will come to fruition likely in a few weeks as it takes time for them to process the application and to get the first paycheck to me. In the mean time I’m asking for support from anyone who feels called to help me in this way to get through this crunchy time so I can pay my rent and not loose my home.

A Helping Hand for Rose

If you knew Michael then you know he was one of a kind and a beautiful soul.  Michael was an inspiration to all of us with his big heart and being confident marching to his own drum. He made everyone he came in contact with laugh and feel good about themselves and he impacted everyone’s lives in the most positive way. On Monday January 11 Michael lost his battle with the hardships life had given him after his time in the United States Marine Corps as he became one of the 22 veterans a day that take their lives. We are asking that you may help us with his grieving family and the financial hardships they face. As also to pay tribute to Michael and what a wonderful person he was. We will love and miss you forever, and may you always live on in the beautiful and endless memories you left us with.

On October 30th 2020 our beloved Dylan Rowsey's life was taken to soon. This has been a very difficult time for many including his mom who he loved with his whole heart. Times like these are ones that as parents we will never want to dream of. 
Rowsey touched many people and always kept us laughing. His love for his friends and family is indescribable. We are all hurt and mad. 
During this time his mom could us a lot of support, she will need to take time off work and I would like to raise what we can to help support her the same way Dylan would of for any of us. ALL funds will be given to his mom to help with expenses due to her loss. Please help any way you can, even if you may not be able to donate money please Share, Share,share!!!! They will bring a certain authenticity to their roles seldom seen in this production. <br /> <br />Additionally, we’re placing Julius Caesar in a modern war setting, making it more relevant for a contemporary audience. <br /> <br />Our production of Julius Caesar is a collaboration of civilians and veterans, highlighting our mission to close the military-civilian divide, using art to heal and bring people together. Veterans collaborating with civilians is a critical component of the re-integration process for when men and women return from service. <br /> <br />Our production will have a very diverse cast, which reflects the military and modern society in a way that is seldom seen. Additionally, we’re gender bending some of the leading roles at a time where there is a huge push for more female leading roles. Our production provides these previously unavailable opportunities for women and other actors with less representation in the industry.

<p>Over the next near<strong> Warriors For Peace Theatre will be partnering with organizations addressing suicide and homelessness within the veterans community. Ten percent of ticket sales</strong> from our upcoming production of Julius Caesar will be donated to The Midnight Mission and The Giving Angels: non-profit organizations providing food, shelter, and other services for the <br />homeless.

Help War Vets Promote Peace with Debut Show
